That's real nice. Now get back to your cardboard box down by the bus terminal...

Turns out, Long was staying at the same shelter as the men who took him down.

Now he'll get better food, shelter, and healthcare.

a verbal gesture

There needs to a Grammar Offender's Registry as well.

2012-09-20 06:03:28 AM
"He had made a verbal gesture to the young lady about 'have you had sex yet' and the girl was freaked out," said Mitchell.

Mitchell kept an eye on Long during the interaction.

"All of the sudden, he just lunged out of his seat and grabbed her crotch area," said Mitchell.

There is "evil" and then there is "crazy". Despite the sexual overtones of what this person does, the manner of his actions and words scream out "crazy/severe mental problems".

Not that that doesn't mean he doesn't need to be taken off the street, he does, but, as a society we cannot be "shocked" when we let him out without any sort of "help" and this happens again.

The US prison system rehabilitates now? When did that start?

I don't know if I'm being irrational, but the original headline bugs me.

These guys stopped a sexual assault. Maybe, just for the duration of a headline, they could be "men" rather than "homeless men."

What did I tell you the last time I sold you crack? It has to last all week. And here you've smoked it all in 12 hours.

The US prison system does little to nothing in the ways of actual rehab. While I know that many offenders simply belong in a cage for the rest of their lives, many others have mental disorders/addictions that can be successfully treated. It's not a liberal vs. conservative issue; it should be about common sense in society.

It's missing an important hyphen in the 'just released'

Did anyone else find themselves trying to read the headline as a telegram?

I would have hyphenated "just-released" since it's a compound adjective, but everything else seems fine to me. It's one sentence that describes what happened, followed by a quote from one of the men who stopped the attack.

Which part of the headline is kicking your ass?

Good on him, but this part bothered me:

"I'm not no hero (sic). I'm a regular person. I have kids, grown up now, but I would hope someone would help my kids if they needed it," said Mitchell.

I hope when my kid is grown up he's not so much of an asshole that he'd leave me homeless.

Ditto. It's merely a place to hide people we don't like so we don't have to deal with them.

His kids probably aren't in a position where they can take care of him- despite republican protestations, we're a very immobile society, and it's really hard to overcome the economic disadvantages you're born into.

I know this is crazy, but what if we DIDN'T let sex offenders back into society. Who thought this guy was rehabilitated? If you wouldn't want him living next to YOUR family, keep him locked up.

Long denied a CBS13 request for an interview.

Wtf was CBS hoping to learn from interviewing him?

I'm fine with it- it's accurate, and the descriptor of 'homeless' is pointing out that these are people who are usually written off by most in society but who still were looking out for others. Good on them.
