Kill the old sitcom model and replace it with one ala The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. This never-ending storytelling is pointless, making it hard to stay motivated to follow a whole series.

hypre: Kill the old sitcom model

Why the hate?

I've only caught sporadic episodes of the show, but it seems harmless enough as sitcoms go - it isn't exactly Mad Men, but it doesn't insult your intelligence the same way The Big Bang Theory or Two And A Half Men do. The guy who plays Ted is a complete non-entity, but Jason Siegel and NPH are good enough at comedy to carry it.

NPH is awesome, and Willow Alyson Hannigan is adorable.

It's otherwise a very, very average sitcom, but I @#$%ing love you for your opinion on BBT.

I gotta disagree here. At it's best, HIMYM has some of the best sit-com writing out there. They way they craft the episodes together is often an act of genius. That said, they should've finished about 4 or 5 seasons ago.

And yeah, fark BBT

I like the show. I don't watch a TV as it's broadcast. I just watch seasons at a time online, sometimes an entire series in order over the span of a few weeks. I had never seen HIMYM until a few months ago, but since I'm a big Neil Patrick Harris fan, I decided to watch the pilot and ended up going through the whole thing. I don't agree that it's burned out and if season 8 is as good as the first 7, I'll probably be wishing for a 9th.

Ted better meet his wife soon, because I would like to see some relationship development over the season, not just have the meeting be at the end up the series or some nonsense.

\I think Barney should have stayed with the stripper.

Actually, that's a new model.

The old model was a show that introduced a set of characters and placed them in a "situation" each week. Every sitcom either ended quickly or managed to hang on long enough to begin to have story arcs slowly introduced (at which point they start to suck).

I like HIMYM, I can relate with the characters better than I could with Friends. And my friends say I remind them of Barney because I bang anything that moves. Im serious I went to an aquarium and, wait for it, the fish stopped swimming!

As long as they finally kill the Ted-Robin "Will they, won't they", which we've long ago established didn't make her the mother.

2012-09-20 07:29:04 AM
Cool. Then maybe Robin can resume her job with the Avengers when that TV show hits.

2012-09-20 07:33:14 AM
I missed the last episode of the season but I definitely think they should end it now before it gets really drawn out.

If it doesn't they'll have to rename the show 'How I Screwed Every Whore On The Upper East Side Before I Met Your Mother'

My favourite situation was the one where there was a big misunderstanding, usually because someone heard part of a conversation out of context.

Long ago, in the pilot. They referred to her as 'Your Aunt Robin.' I didn't see the pilot first go around and thought she might be the mother for a while.

But who could live up to audience expectation?

It sucked balls. Ted gained back all 100lbs of douchiness he had lost over the series in one quick move.

I tried watching the episode Monday before football, and I was in misery. I watched that show since the beginning and loved every second of the first 4 seasons. Then they started doing horrendous plot lines and the show would air sporadically in the spring. And greedy CBS wouldn't tell you when the new ones were so I would be let down by a rerun every week. I couldn't handle it anymore and last season I stopped. Its going nowhere, Its gone nowhere for 3 seasons, and its revolting.

I'm not watching 10 episodes of average crappy sitcom for a brilliant episode every once in awhile.

2012-09-20 09:28:19 AM
The show is still fun, but it's long outlived the gimmick. The mother should have been revealed a year prior, and given them a change to do more than just keep the mom on a pedestal.

Still, when every one but Josh Randor is fun to watch (not his fault, the character is just too much of a douche) it gets a lot of leeway. NPH is still hilarious in every scene.

/Prediction: Barney is dead in 2030

2012-09-20 09:34:12 AM
the kids are in high school now and don't give a shiat about he met their mother anymore.

2012-09-20 09:45:45 AM
I always figure the kids were adopted and Ted's telling them these stories right before he tells them the zombies have broken through the outer barriers.

I can't get through an entire episode anymore.

2012-09-20 09:50:50 AM
It's gonna turn out to all be a lie. The kids have no mother. They were born in vats.

2012-09-20 10:21:09 AM
Didn't they announce this a while ago? All the actors/actresses hate the show and said they'd only sign on to do another season if it is the last one.

2012-09-20 10:26:13 AM
Since Ted's story to his kids is about all these other women he's been pining away over for years, I'm assuming the end is going to be "... and that's how I met your mother, and that's why she's divorcing me."

2012-09-20 10:32:26 AM
The mother is Barney's half sister.

Oh, you didn't know he had one? Well, he does. And Ted is going to marry her.

2012-09-20 10:52:07 AM
I just want the show to end so we can finally get an answer to why Old Ted sounds like Bob Saget instead of, you know, Old Ted.

Ted was better in the earlier seasons, and apparently Radnor is a huge douche in real life, so in this case I think it's a case of the actor slowly making the character worse.

I can understand being a little upset when you're cast as the lead character on a show and then end up being completely eclipsed by the rest of the ensemble. No one watches that show because they like Ted.

Used to be a great show, but waaaaaay too long in the tooth now. The show was once appointment viewing, now I just want them to wrap it up. shiat is starting to get old and tired.

2012-09-20 12:21:05 PM
Yeah, this show is painful to watch now. NPH is the only thing it has going for it. Also, Jason Segel needs to not appear in anything ever again....dude's just creepy by default.

Ted was ok at the start of the show but yes as the show went along he became such a douche that I could give a crap who he has kids with now. I'd rather watch an episode with just Lilly's dad than Ted.

Exactly - there's a lot of mileage in that story.

The mother is Barney's half sister whom he meets at Barney's wedding and she is portrayed by the now adult Lyndsy Fonseca. Everything is wrapped up nice and cleanly.

Lyndsy Fonseca already plays Ted's daughter

Save for the part where Radnor was quite the douche as a person prior to being cast in this show, I'm completely with you.

therecksays: Ted was ok at the start of the show

I wish they would have wrapped up the show when I still liked Ted. I don't want to dislike Ted.......

They are acting like the character can't have any growth just because we know he can't meet the Mother till the very end. All the while they are giving Barney most of the growth and development as a character.

I don't really like Barney and Robin together. You know how they got really gross at the end of the first time around. That is how I felt about them the whole time. There characters don't work well together for me. When they were Bros and Robin was suiting up with him they were great together but not as partners. I could never figure out why the two of them seem to be a fan favorite.

Blatantly stolen from another Farker: Kids, let me tell you the story of how I met your mother. But first, let me describe in graphic detail all the other women I had sex with before I met her.
