This guy has no filter keeping him from saying shiat publicly that he's only supposed to say in private.

Full quote: "Now and then the president says I'm the grandfather of Obamacare. I don't think he meant that as a compliment, but I'll take it. This was during my primary; we thought it might not be helpful," Romney said during a Univision candidate forum Wednesday.

Translation: I didn't take credit for it during the Primaries because I was busy misleading Republican voters. But NOW...

The fark.

Is it really possible he is this bad at this?

Yes.

This is what happens when a lifelong super-rich guy finally leaves the Hall of Sycophants. Back in the day if Mitt had shown up at the office with his pants on inside-out his entire staff would have charged the men's room to turn their OWN pants inside-out to match the "bold fashion statement, boss! Another home-run decision!"

I cannot figure out what the hell Romney is saying lately. I almost feel bad for those who hate Obama and are stuck with this retarded hydra of babblespeak.

Romney later clarified his remarks by saying, "I'm honored just to be a grandfather, it's a wonderful thrill. I did not mean to say that I felt it a compliment to be the grandfather of President Obama's health care initiative. We're Mormon, so, quite frankly, we have so many children and grandchildren it's difficult to keep it all straight and I thought it was the name of one of my actual grandchildren".

I am pretty sure that if you are a lib up on your politics and you debate conservative folk about Romney v. Obama, you'd be pretty likely to get them to say something pretty overtly racist at this point.

I think it's more amazing that he's still in the race at all. I think it's some sort of process by which the electorate is so calloused from candidates attacking each other, or sounding like idiots to partisan ears, that they just sort of tune out the signal with the noise.

The only way that a single one of these comments would affect his base would be if Fox News went off the air. Because no matter what he says, they will not only justify the gaffe, but find a strawman to make the gaffe look alright.

Another possibility: Romney doesn't know the meaning of certain words.

Could be that Rovian cultivation of "Folksy Bush" gone horribly awry.

Obamacare is one thing I feel bad about for Romney. He is CLEARLY proud of the Massachussets healthcare law. A picture of the bill is in his governor's portrait. He MUST be proud that his bill was used as an example fo the national bill.

Rove must have pulled Mitt aside and biatch slapped him.

There was a time in the Clinton campaign against HW when Clinton was being a bit confused about a policy. Gore said to him, flat out, :Get with the Goddamn program!"

It's because he knows The Base will either read around that part, or never hear it. What kind of communist reads The LA Times, anyway? Besides which, it's not like his base can apply basic logic to that statement to determine that Romney was actually taking credit for RomneyCare and calling it a good thing.

We're at the point where Romney can literally tell them to their faces that he's using them because they're dumb, and they don't care so much that he gets a 1.5-point bump in the polls.

Ok, tin foil hat time. Let's pretend that the few moderates left in the GOP (I know, I know, stop laughing. We're pretending I said!) have finally had enough of letting the crazy people rule the roost. They picked a horrible candidate and are coaching him to throw the election in the hopes that they get their asses handed to them so massively that they can take back control of their party and move it two millimeters to the center, just to take a little cut off the crazy. If this is happening, I fully support and salute them.

I'll go back to petting my unicorn now.

It's a nice theory, but if it were true, wouldn't they have lobbied for a True Believer ala Rick Santorum or Michelle Bachmann? A Romney loss gives credence to the idea that "we lost cause our guy wasn't conservative enough!!!" thus preventing the crazies from being marginalized.

For every question. "I think Mr. Romney made a good point when he said ."

The Romney gets to disown his own words every single time.
