(Daily Mail)   Mother Jones admits that their "unedited" video might have had at least 2 minutes of editing out Romney comments that changes what he actually said. But claims to not know how these minutes mysteriously were edited out   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 204

In fact, Romney never said any of the things he said.

/who you going to believe, me or your own lying ears?

2012-09-19 11:56:11 PM
Or not.

2012-09-19 11:58:28 PM
I can't picture any context where what he said would mean anything different. Unless they cut out the part where he said, "If I wanted to totally tank the election, I would say the following ridiculous things."

2012-09-19 11:59:36 PM
It's pretty obvious the camera turned off and the waiter who was recording it shortly noticed and turned it back on. Good thing too, for Romney, since at that point in his speech, every sentence he said was more asinine than the last.

2012-09-19 11:59:48 PM
Yeah, given the length of the video there's no context that could be provided that would make what was said any better. Sure one or two things could perhaps be softened a bit, but the whole thing in its totality is what it is.

Also that, it's not so much that it's editing as it's whoever was recording stopped and started again. And there could be any of a number of reasons for doing that.

Romney said: "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

He said those sentences on video. It wasn't spliced together to make sentences that didn't come out of his mouth. So I would love to hear what else a freeper imagines Mitt could have said that would cancel that out. Did he yell "just kidding!" afterward?

I heard there was a 2 minute gap in the video because the person secretly recording it either stopped recording (possibly to keep from getting caught) or the camera phone stopped working. I would LOVE to hear the missing 2 mins because it most likely had even more stupid Romney shiat on it that we'll never get to laugh at.

This means that Richard Hammond is automagically The Doctor and Matt Smith has to drive a feces-encrusted 1980s BMW 325i convertible, a 1963 Opel Kadett and/or a Ford Transit with a slightly turbocharged Jaguar engine in the back.

2012-09-20 12:04:43 AM
It's likely that there was a file size or running time limit on the cell phone's video recorder, and that a minute or two went by before the person making the recording realized it had stopped. I would farking LOVE to hear what else Mittens said to his filthy rich owners.

2012-09-20 12:06:25 AM
See, here's the difference between democrats and republicans of late. Democrats say "Listen to this tape of what Romney said, some of his comments are disturbing" and then they link to a tape where he says stuff that's disturbing. Republicans say "Obama is a socialist and wants to take your money and give it to other people, he said so on this tape," and then they link to a 14 year old tape that that doesn't say anything like that.

Now they say that since there's a minute or so gap in the middle of 49 minutes of video, it completely changes what he said near the end of the whole thing. We have the whole context for that part; he was answering different questions and we hear the question that started that part.

It's so completely disingenuous.

2012-09-20 12:09:03 AM
Maybe in the gap, he said "Okay, I'm done with the normal part of the evening. For the rest of the time I'm going to pretend to be a clueless jerk who has no clue what it would mean to be president. But it's all an act. Ready? Here we go..."

2012-09-20 12:09:58 AM
Which is, of course, why Romney immediately said, "those are not my words, that's not what I said or meant."

Wait, what? Romney didn't deny saying any of it? In fact he's stood by it?

SilentStrider: I wondered when we'd hear the cries of "WE WERE BREITBARTED!".

Funny Romney made no mention of it for nearly two full days. The first words out of his mouth Monday night should have been "This video has been completely re-edited and everything in it was taken completely out of context." Instead, he spent one full day backing up what he said, backed by hardliners in his party who also agree with what he said in the video. NOW suddenly people are saying there's a conspiracy. It's a bit late for that.

Maybe they had to change the battery.

2012-09-20 12:43:45 AM
I don't understand how people are saying it's out of context when Romney himself claimed that 1) he said it, and 2) he stands by it.

2012-09-20 12:44:51 AM
So of course the few Teabagger friends I have on Facebook have now gone with "But Mitt is a man who stands by his word, so we support him 120%"

I thought Mitt had his power supply upgraded a few years ago, and didn't need a swap until 2023

On the camera or Romney?

2012-09-20 12:55:04 AM
Was it not ever completely obvious that Mitt was a big-money guy who only had shiatty speeches because he lacked charisma and didn't want to piss off the people who'd vote for him?

2012-09-20 12:58:21 AM
Yes, because I'm sure in that one minute, he said "HAHA, I TROLL YOU!"

2012-09-20 01:01:10 AM
So if the missing minutes change the context, why did Romney give a press conference where he said he stood by what he said in the tape?

The press conference was out of context.

Editing footage is completely beneath them, and they would never hold a whole convention on one edited catch phrase.

/They built that catch phrase

2012-09-20 02:41:56 AM
But really, 1 minute out of 49. That would have to be a really earth shattering 1 minute.

"I was just kidding, they are really hard working but I actually wanted to give the kid with the phone camera a hard time, I mean, he sees what comes out of his meager paycheck. Now that he is taking a piss, here's how you make money. Buy stock in futures and own a share of these domestic oil wells. Also invest heavily in defense companies. Because we are going to get into a war with Iran, which will send the prices through the roof. It doesn't matter what the president does or who he is, because we got friends in Blackwater, Xe or whatever they are called and they are going to start some shiat in both Israel and Iran when everyone is asleep. When that happens, you should be wearing this special underwear that I am passing around because...SHHH! Ok, he's back. Anyway as I was saying, it's all just class warfare but it doesn't matter because they are lazy, dependents who will never amount to anything."

2012-09-20 03:13:56 AM
This is just like the the Nixon tapes except the damning part was published and the positive part is forever lost to history.

Bingo. You can't have it both ways, dumbasses, especially when one way is provably false and the other is provably true.

They edited out the dedication: "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this speech are fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental."

On top of the fact that he reiterated that he means what he said, and exactly as it was said.

Mother-Jones-admits-that-their-unedited-video-might-have-had-at-least - 2-minutes-of-editing-out-Romney-comments-that-changes-what-he-actually -said-...

No, just no.

'When we put up the full video, the source said - and I have no reason not to believe him - that the device that was being used inadvertently shut down or timed-out,' he told Politico.

...Is what Politico said was said to them.

MJ is not the one saying that the 2 minutes contained any content that made the other 49 minutes of Mitt showing himself to be the arrogant, out of touch, dismissive, lying sack of feces that he is anything other than what it plainly is.

RW blogs, otoh, are speculating like mad and making hilariously inapt false equivalency arguments all over the place in a desperate attempt to spin this after Mitt's disastrous damage control presser went over like a lead balloon.

Perhaps, *that* is where Subby is getting confused here?

Rhoades argued in the memo: 'Mitt Romney has a different idea. He knows that we need to foster growth and create wealth, not redistribute wealth, if our economy is to grow the way it has in the past.'

In the past?

In the past the nation had sensible tax rates on the rich that the nation has subsequently rolled back over the years by well heeled individuals (and corporations, they *are* people, my friends!) exerting undue influence on the political system.

By taxing and spending government is always in the business of redistributing wealth.

"Should we redistribute wealth or not?" is not the real question.

The real question is "In which direction is the wealth flowing?"

The answer is "the wrong way" and has been for too long.

That noted, the idea that one cannot redistribute wealth and try to increase wealth generally at the same time is bullshiat as well.

Once again the RW mindset sees a false eithor/or dichotomy where none exists.

If the RWers wish to talk about this into November I'm okay with that.

Go nuts.
