Was that his final solution?

dofus: If his intent was to say 'find a solution that fixes the problem once and for all' and he said 'permanent solution' then he's guilty of being a poor speaker. To equate what he meant with the German's 'final solution' for the Jews is absurd.

I'm not even close to a Romney fan but Jeeze...

That was just subby having a larf, methinks.

Nobody is suggesting that Mittens seriously advocated anything like the infamous "Final Solution" of Nazi Germany simply that, as you yourself suggest, it was inartful speech, at best. Worthy of some slight mockery on the intrawebs and most especially here on the Fark Politics tab.

The real story, as other posters have previously suggested, is both A) Romney needs to win back some of the Hispanic vote to even have a chance. and B) His performance on Univision probably lost him more votes at the end of the day among both Hispanics who saw through his half-hearted pander attempts here and hardcore RWNJs who will see him even appearing before this group as Mitt selling out in a RINOesque fashion.

The "permanent solution" thing is just gravy.

I must be the only person who didn't read the headline or the article as a Godwin at all. I figured what makes this stupid is that he goes on Univision to talk to the Hispanic population about the problems they are interested in, and manages to completely bungle his position on immigration with something as vague as "I'll fix it permanently, I promise!", flip-flopping on the DREAM act, and leaving:

In what could be a shift, however, Romney spoke glowingly about Rubio's plan, which among its features "said that kids that get higher education could become permanent residents of the United States." In the past, Romney has vowed to veto existing DREAM Act legislation, which provides a path to citizenship for undocumented children who complete certain education targets.

...

He again attacked Obama for putting in place what even Obama called a "stopgap measure" when it came to DREAMers. Romney did not specifically answer when asked whether he'd allow the undocumented youth made legal by Obama's action to stay in the United States, referring only to the "permanent solution" he said he'd achieve.

My favorite part:

The audience at the Univision forum was reportedly pre-packed with Romney supporters, so many of Romney's responses received enthusiastic applause.

Rmoney can't go anywhere without an entourage of people paid to clap for him whenever he opens his mouth. It wouldn't surprise me if he had no idea how poorly he is doing in this election.

He must be actively trying to lose the election. That's about the only explanation I can think of that doesn't turn my brain into an inside-out TARDIS.

Introitus: cman: What about if he said something like "hail Mary", would you find that racist, too (from Sieg Heil)?

It only counts if illegals are involved. Because, you know, not giving citizenship to people entering a country they don't belong to for the purposes of work is the same as genocide, right?

Obama used the phrase "Permanent solution" when talking about illegal immigration. No one gave a shiat then.

I mean really, if he'd been talking about global warming and used those words, would the reaction be the same? You guys are so desperate to link whatever you can to racism that you throw common sense out the window. Romney says something remotely similar to a nazi slogan so he is a bad man? What about if he said something like "hail Mary", would you find that racist, too (from Sieg Heil)?

This. Romney says stupid shiat all the time. Godwinning a comment that doesn't even amount to a poor choice of words isn't helping here libs.

This is Fox News low.

I, too, like open boarders, so long as they're above the age of consent, free of social diseases, and have less body weight, body fat and body hair than I do.

Open borders would be nice, too, since it would mean that kids would not be punished for being born on one side of a line in the sand drawn over a century ago by aristocrats and being raised on the other after being taken across said line by their parents before they were old enough to talk.

As opposed to closed boarders, which is in keeping with talk like a pirate day.

However, you've gotta distinguish between wisecracks and actual butthurt as displayed with the binder clips.
