Another Hall of Fame that Rush don't give a shiat if they ever get into, more like it.

I respect the hell out of Rush, but simply don't like them. Am I allowed to say that without an armada of cheeto-fingered jerks explaining that I just don't "get" them?

My chief criticism is that aside from earlier work, they're so farking sterile. Yet I'm also an electronic music nut (not the onnce oonce oonce variety) so take that for what it's worth. To me, Rush neither rocks and/or rolls.

Rush sucks

'cept maybe 'working man' or 'tom sawyer'

perhaps 'subdivisions'

otherwise pure woo woo so what wanking with some bad chick lead singer whose voice is way too high for anyone not into helium huffing.

Is it some kind of Fark blasphemy that I think Rush is just okay? I like 2112, but everything else, I can take or leave.

FTFA: Those names will be inscribed on a plaque called the Perry, which will be modeled after the microphone used by Canonsburg native son Perry Como.

What, are we trying to kill half the nominees again?

"pop" = popular. both were very popular with the masses, sold lots of vinyl.

No, shiattytown, PA. Just because you nominate them, doesn't mean they will visit your armpit town.

Besides, everyone on your list is either dead, or only cares about pudding now.

I like Rush up until Grace Under Pressure and then they changed and weren't my cup o' whiskey anymore. I respect them for that. They keep trying to grow on their own terms and in ways that they want to. Even if you don't like Rush you've gotta give them props for sticking to their guns and doing what THEY want.

2012-09-20 08:14:01 AM
Please...all former Rush fans, the ones who used to like them until...please take a listen to Clockwork Angels.

And if you think Geddy sings like he's taken hit of helium, you obviously have no listened to anything Rush has put out in a very long time.

Saw Rush for the first time a week ago. They love what they do and it shows. They played a great show for nearly 3 hours. I can understand people not being into them, but I still think they are great. I've been trying to see them since high school (graduated in 94) and am glad I finally got to.

You must have been at the Jiffy Lube Live! show, same as I. I won tickets to attend, but I've been a lifelong fan of the band since i played 2112 while doing high school radio. The new album is good, and their live show is as srong as it ever has been.

People who don't like Rush aren't really a problem. It's fine that you don't like 'em.

The problem I have are when people call out Rush or their fans for stupid reasons. "They have no soul!" Really? What exactly does this MEAN, anyway? Their music has a passion and drive that is amazing to hear. "They're emotionless!" Really? Have you heard The Pass, Different Strings, The Way The Wind Blows, or more recently The Garden? "They're music to play D&D to!" Dude, they haven't done an album like that in almost 30 years... well, ok, Clockwork Angels is a throwback to that era, but it's not so overt about it.

I could go on, but I think I made my point. If you don't like Rush, then that's OK. But a lot of the reasons thrown around simply don't hold water under close inspection.

Rush is a fantastic band, and that's why they've been around for so many years.

If it wasn't for Rush, the following bands wouldn't exist:
Tool
Dream Theater
Radiohead
Smashing Pumpkins
Mastodon

I could go on, but you get the idea ...

Rush could probably be better than awful if they just got a competent drummer. It is too bad they can't get Lars.

Looking at the "2013 AMERICA'S POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME NOMINEES" list, I wonder why acts that are not pop acts (Hank Williams Jr, Beatles, Chuck Berry, etc.) that are non pop acts are even in that list at all. And the Monkees? YGTBKM! Beatles knockoff. 'Nuff said

Geddy Lee's already in the Negro League Baseball Hall of Fame, and that's cooler than being in that dump of a Hall in Cleveland.

FTA: " Like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the Pop Hall was conceived of first, but will be built later, by a devoted community of music lovers -- in this case, the Pennsylvania borough's government."

Will somebody please tell me what the f*ck this means?

Also: I guess it's possible to build something before you conceive it-I'd really like to see the article focus on this possibility.

Loved them for the past 30 years, pity they get no radio play. No passion in their music? Listen to "beneath the wheels".

Rush deserves Rock HOF induction.....there are a lot of crap acts who aren't as talented or as successful that got inducted. And I am not a Rush fan

As for this Pop Music HOF...more power to them.

Took my 10 year old son with me to the Jiffy Lube show. They really are amazing- they're near 60, just put out the best album they've done in almost 20 years and they put on a hell of a show. It was kind of ironic- I last saw them in 1984 (Grace Under Pressure) tour and they did some of the same songs.

When you've got a catalog as deep as Rush's, I don't think you can help playing some of the old songs every tour. I was also at P/G, at the Meadowlands.

The one thing you gotta give credit to Rush for, they've sold a gazillion albums and are still touring all these years later without one female ever purchasing anything. If they were better looking guys they would probably be the most popular band of all time.
