Five Guys FTW.

I tried In & Out Burger for the first time 2 weeks ago. What a joke. It tasted like Steak n Shake burger and the fries were dry like canned shoestring potatoes. And people jerk off over it?

Based on what?

McDonalds and Burger King and Wendy's are international.

I don't know if five guys is even national yet. How many franchises do they even have?

Ah, it's food hipster time again I guess.

Five Guys is great, but it could easily be better if they knocked off the foil for the burgers.

Same experience here, tried it when I moved to CA. Incredibly average, IMO no better than McD's, BK, etc. AND NO BACON WTF

My new favorite though (at least close to me) is The Counter.

Five Guys needs to lose the hotdogs (who orders those?) and add some milk shakes.

Having grown up on Swenson's burgers, In N Out is incredibly disappointing.

I actually had a DQ burger the other day. It was better than I expected. Not great, and not as good as 5 Guys, but it wasn't horrible for a quick eat.

I've heard good things about Smashburger, but never been to one.

If you are in Vegas... I (Heart) Burgers is very good.

Otherwise ....... 5Guys >(Barely) Culvers > Steak N Shake > Hardee's (Now) > Wendys > BK > McD > Rotten Meat > Hardee's (20 years ago)

Not sure if serious

FORBES: Five Guys, with a mix of company-owned (200) and franchised (839) stores, has sold out all of its franchise rights in North America.

You are correct sir.

Although, I rank them
1) In and Out
2) Hamburger Habit
3) 5 Guys
4) Fat Burger

Any one of those is a good meal. You aren't marrying the damn burgers, you're eating them for lunch. It's ok to like more than one burger chain.

I'm not impressed by Five Guys. I think their burgers are too dry.

And In-and-Out sucks balls.

The Counter gets points for their huge menu of options, but after the grueling ordering experience, and the long wait, the burger usually isn't worth the effort.

Fatburger is where it's at. Wendy's will do in a pinch.

Ummmm, Five Guys.

Greasy repulsive french fries and an over-priced average-quality burger.

Ummmmm

2012-09-19 09:51:06 PM
The best burgers tend to come from places that do a lot of dairy. Places like Brams or the old Dairy Queen or Borden (are they even around anymore?). The reason is that milk cows have to have a calf every two years to keep making milk and dairy farmers have no use for the males so they become hamburgers.

If you want to make a lot of money, find a 3rd rate fast food franchise and set it up in Australia. McD makes more profit here than in the US and has nearly no competition. Someone is going to make a fortune selling tacos here in the next few decades since Taco Bell had a trademark issue.

2012-09-19 09:52:13 PM
Dry patties, damp buns, and limp non crispy fries? No thanks.

I'd take any of Culver's, Steak and Shake, Hardee's, and Smashburger over five guys anytime. Don't get me started praising BRGR, Blanc, or Fred P. Ott's.

Smashburger > Five Guys.

But Five Guys is still really good.. But SB has more stuff on the menu, including fried egg. Also their bun is AMAZING.

DQ is god-awful. Do they still charge for lettuce?

I've tried Five Guys and it was an overwhelming meh for me.

I prefer Mighty Fine Burgers.

And they have hand dipped Blue-Bell milkshakes too

You're not going to believe me, but that's what I meant too.

I didn't realize they were two different chains.

M-G: To me, Five Guys burgers are like a tasteless version of Steak n Shake, at a huge price.

Not surprising, considering how much water they pump into their meat to inflate the weight. It all cooks off as soon as they throw it on the grill.
There really is nothing stopping you from making burgers exactly like Five Guys does with anything besides a skillet. There is no special flavoring or anything added beforehand. It's simple 85/15 ground beef, although the extra water makes it squishier than the stuff you normally get at the supermarket.

5 guys is great. Not sure how they are in the same category as McDs, BK, or Wendys or the major chains. We have some here in FL but obviously not as prevalent as those above. At any rate it is a good burger, they make them fresh, you can order them custom at the counter and the toppings are free including bacon....mmmm bacon.

/fries are kinda meh

I prefer Twisted Root

Can't stand the counter. The burgers are pressed so tightly together before they are cooked, as if they are cardboard.

a huge price? the double burger and fries with whatever you want on it is like $6, the toppings are pretty extensive

FTFA and my experience, In n Out is tops in value. Five Guys is a better burger and the fries are WAY better. But at a much higher cost. Me I would rather do Five Guys but we only have In n Out here.

Five guys is ok, they need to learn how to cook Jalapeños, and to add Pico De Gallo

I'm surprised Burger King isn't at rock bottom. Have you ever been in one lately? It's a time-warp to 1991, the burgers are put together by slobs and then gratuitously smashed flat, and the flavor is gone.

There's one opening over in Round Rock next year, so it looks like they're finally entering other Texas markets. We had to wait forever for Ikea and Trader Joe's, so it only seems fair to make Houston wait for something ;)
