all I want is a cameo in avengers 2. Just have a scene where you see a red head feeding some squirrels next to a bunch of dead thanos minions.

The current incarnation of Guardians is one of the best series I have ever read. Marvel needs to do more with their cosmic titles. Thanos-Annihilation-War/Realm of Kings-Thanos Imperative were all so excellent.

The hell?! Why is Cable's head on Rocket Raccoon's body?

I suspect it's a MvC/MvC2 reference? (Since that was the name of one of Cable's INCREDIBLY IRRITATING super's.)

James Gunn did a great job with the criminally underrated "Super", so I'm definitely looking forward to this one now.

Correct on both accounts.

/AHVB was Cable's staple damage. Especially when comboed into itself.

VTGremlin: I've never heard of these guys, but I'm digging the concept art.

L to R:

Drax The Destroyer - A human genetically modified to hunt down and kill Thanos (the big purple guy at the very end of Avengers).

Groot - A sentient tree that tried to conquer Earth once but met Thor and fled, assuming everyone on the planet was similarly super powered. He used to speak English, but now he just says "I am Groot" and only Rocket Raccoon can understand what he means.

Star Lord - An Earthman with an extremely complicated origin story that I don't even pretend to understand.

Rocket Raccoon - Sentient raccoon, formerly a sort of security guard on an insane asylum planet. Now a freelance adventurer and heavy weapons expert.

Gamora - Raised by Thanos to be a super assassin until she turned on him and started working for the good guys.

So there you go. The stars sort of resemble the symbol for the Nova Corp., who are a kind of space cop, but that could be coincidence.

It's hard to tell what's going on there. It looks like it'll be some sort of cross between Vance Astro and StarLord.

I've seen "The Specials" but not "Super", so I'll just say that IT'S MINUTE MAN, NOT MINUTEMAN! Do I look like a soldier from the Revolutionary War? I don't think so! Am I wearing a three-cornered hat? No! I turn small. Think!

I've been a big Marvel fan for years, but there is a very real danger of over-saturating the market, especially with third tier heroes clogging up the cinema.

They should chuck this idea and do a remake of Forbidden Planet instead. That'd be awesome.

Marvel's galactic books of the last decade or so have been some of their consistently best books. Not having to get involved with 90% of the tie-in bullsh*t, they're allowed to tell their own stories. Abnet and Lanning have long since become a couple of my favorite Marvel writes, along with Hickman.

Using their stories and characterizations as basis, Gunn will undoubtedly make one hell of a fun movie.

The only thing I know of James Gunn is PG Porn, and that's enough to win me over. Have it at.

2012-09-19 05:57:56 PM
Sadly, Rocket Racoon's creator, Bil Mantlo, is literally rotting away in a nursing home, uninsured. Since he created the character BEFORE Marvel started to adopt a policy where creators would get a cut of any royalties, Bil isn't likely to see a dime.

I agree: from Starlin's Thanos reboot through Giffen's prison ship crash all the way to the Cancerverse it was a great ride, and of course "It is imperative you pay attention at this time" DnA's Nova was also a fun part of it.

I wonder where Cammi is?

This movie is going to suck, just so hard. There's no way they can do this without it just being incredibly campy and the overabundance of CGI is going to make it look ridiculous.

Im not a bigmarvel guy so i was picturing that old cartoon with the racoon and his pink alien friend whose dad was a grredy jackoff and always got thwarted.

I looked up the cartoon just now... Evidentally the Sneers were aardvarks. Well I'll be damned.

Guardians of the Galaxy you say? No idea who they are. I do, however, still have a copy of Rocket Raccoon rotting away with my other comics I collected back in the day. Had no idea he was part of something bigger.

Im suddenly so glad I never got into Comic books. This team is the 'Squirt' cola analogue in the super hero universe.

You said it in the first line of your post. If you had been into comic books, you'd know that these characters have a long history of being crazy badass. Two of them were in the old Infinity Watch that guarded the gems after Thanos had them.
