If you take the word "lei" and rearrange the letters, you get "lie". That's why, in Hawaii, it is considered an honor to receive a lie. It's just like getting lei'd.

Given the GOP's most recent track record of obstructionism and current platform their only hope of maintaining seats in all but the most red districts is through lies, misinformation, and other forms of subterfuge.

The Hawai'i State Senate is awesome - it has ONE Republican member. He's the voice of the opposition and the ranking minority member on every committee.

All commercials use ringers. The people who claim to be loving McDonalds probably spit it out after the commercial ends. When the women let in a 6'6" Arab bald guy into the house, it's not to clean floors with them, at least not with a mop.

Democrats do the same thing. Not only is it not news, it isn't even Fark.

Nothing wrong with using a ringer. The ringer is not allowed to lie. McDonalds can use Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is not allowed to say "I'm a doctor and eating McDonald's cheeseburgers will cure cancer."

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the main federal agency that enforces advertising laws and regulations. Under the Federal Trade Commission Act:

Advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive

Advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims

Advertisements cannot be unfair

You don't know the first goddamn thing about advertising regulations do you?

This is deceptive because it is portrayed as testimonial advertising yet these are not actual testimonials and there is no disclaimer to that effect. It's a totally clear cut case.

What's peculiar is why you seem so comfortable taking such bold stances given that you have obviously never read anything about the topic, worked in any industry even peripherally related or even discussed it casually over a beer with someone who knows what they are talking about.

In terms of deceptive political advertising, neither the Democratic nor the Republican ad make my "outrage" list. They weren't lying about their opponents views or what had happened over the last decade. They just used stand-ins instead of actual examples.

Why would either of these upset anybody?

Democrats dishonestly used the union representative to stand-in for steelworkers to speak for steelworkers.
Republicans dishonestly used Republicans to stand-in for Democrats.

These are both totally equal.

Really? So if i'm not upset by the outrage du jour, I must be a Republican? Interesting.

If there's an ad where somebody who looks like a doctor says "Three out of four doctors prefer fluffernutter", I care about whether it's true that three out of four doctors prefer fluffernutter. I couldn't care less whether the guy talking is actually a doctor.

I know him -- he's way smart, knows finance inside and out, and truly cares for the people in his district. He's almost the goddam Batman.
That's what it takes to get an "R" in the Hawai'i Senate.

Yeah, yeah, and there was a thread a week or two ago about Democrats pretending to be Republicans in an ad. You should either be upset at both sides over this, or at neither side.

The point people seem to miss is that these are ALL politicians. You know, folks not moral enough to be used car salespeople. Expecting honesty from ANY of them is a chumps' game. Getting mad at all of them is reasonable, but pointless, as it only hurts one's health. Knowing they are all lying scumbags is probably the healthiest stance. Thinking they're all honest is possible only with colossal naivete. Claiming one side is honest, and the other is not is classic partisan hackery, and actually BELIEVING that one side is honest, and the other is not means you are a useful idiot for the side you support. Спасибо, товарищ!
