Wow! That's way too big to look through when I have to get to work in 1/2 hour!

There are two xwings. One is far, far underground. Find the mario level, then follow the tunnel down and left.

Huh. I was wondering why there was just a big blank box at the bottom, then I realized I still had xkcd.com blocked on NoScripts.

I'm busy at work, so I haven't had time to look at it closely, but how much you want to bet that it's a somewhat randomized patchwork of images. Munroe is just as likely to have actually drawn a giant image, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's just playing with code this time.

Today's xkcd comic, unless someone can convince me otherwise, now holds the record for the biggest comic panel ever. Fittingly, the strip is called "Click and drag" and you'll have to do a LOT of it to read the entire thing.
At 165888 x 79872 pixels, or 1.3 terapixels, the image would fill the screens of 4212 iPads with retina displays in an 81 x 52 grid. The grayscale image is 12.3 gigabytes in size. If it was printed at a size big enough that you could see the people, it would cover a football end zone. And as you might expect in a Randall Munroe comic, there are little treasures to be discovered all over the place. I don't want to spoil the fun, but yes, Waldo's in there too.

Holy Crap!

HalEmmerich: thecpt: Cybernetic: Does anyone else keep trying to do the two-finger pinch on the screen to shrink the image?

I'm still trying to find a velociraptor. There has to be one.

Look near the far left side

Oh i got it. Just took a loooong time.

TheMysteriousStranger: imfallen_angel: Found it... or at least one... down the shaft... about a mile down...

My God this thing is unbelievably large.

I thought it was really, really small.

Worlds are much bigger than that.

;-)

I read on the XKCD forums that someone estimated it is 10km from end to end.

Oh, I should have mentioned the tunnel that X-Wing is in gets too narrow to escape... and therefore that pilot dies :(

Is that a mockup of Tesla's radio station on the right side coast? Not the really tall one about Dubai but the shorter one before it.

You're right - I guess Randall overlooked that when he made the map.

+1 geek point to you . . .

/I mean that in an admiring 'good eye' way

I don't think so. It looks more like a Marconi-style station:

And you would be wrong.

There are two.

That hatch on the island really reminded me of a very obscure but cool movie called Lunopolis

Neat

/check it out. Freaky movie.

Nice Harvey Danger reference. Going to have to stop for a while, starting to develop repetitive strain injuries.

Saiga410: SmellsLikePoo: Fano: Did anyone else see the schooner?

HAHAHAHAHA YOU DUMB BASTARD THAT'S NOT A SCHOONER, IT'S A SAILBOAT!

Came here for this exchange. Leaving satisfied.

I feel slightly sheepish for posting without looking to see if there was a schooner.

/knew there should be

Every now and then, someone pays off Randall to completely destroy the productivity of the world's geeks. And this is the result. And damned if I can pull myself away from it.

The exit shaft for the underground X-wing was closed off when I started at the top and went down. That happen for anyone else?

Parts of it remind me of the Oak Island Money Pit.

There was even lemonade.

But I'm still surprised I didn't find a wombat in the tunnels.

jcb274: here's a link to an html version (scrollable!). It's much easier to see. Scroll about 1/3 of the way down where the grass starts and go nuts.

Not working for me. Loads a basic page, but no images or other graphical elements. I tried several different browsers. :(

Someone is an extremely successful webcomic, and can pretty much afford to spend as much time as he wants doing whatever he finds worthwhile.

Grither: There are definitely two dinosaurs in that image. I'm not telling you where.

Found 'em. They're babies, I think. Also think not the same species, though similar, but at least one's a raptor.

I believe you mean to the right, but yeah. I was wondering what was going on there, and that makes sense.

It reminded me of the story of Oak Island more than anything else, but I've never seen or heard of that movie. Also, it reminds me a bit of Starlost.

Both velociraptors. One has feathers. The other doesn't. (Palaeontologists have been arguing that point for the past decade or so.)

Wenchmaster: The exit shaft for the underground X-wing was closed off when I started at the top and went down. That happen for anyone else?

There are two shafts that look very similar from the top. The X-Wing one is under the island to the left of center, the one that is closed off and goes nowhere is to the right of center on a hill.

Wow, thanks for that. Excellent source pic. You are right. I conflated Marconi's radio station and Tesla's lab recently "saved."

Bellow the clipper ship and lighthouse is a jellyfish. Below that is a tiny white box, but there seems to be something in it, possibly with text. Can anyone make it out?
