FirstNationalBastard: People who edit wikipedia have their own agendas, and may even often overlook facts that they don't agree with?

I'm always pissed off then I go to look up something on Wikipedia only to get the "this page has been deleted" notice. Dammit! I needed that information. That's your job Wikipedia, to provide me with information. Stop deleting it.

It's also annoying when it redirects you from the page you were looking for to a page related to what you were looking for but doesn't actually contain the information about what you were looking for.

While this is bad, I'm curious...who actually goes to the Wikipedia front page? Hell, most of the time I search google for whatever it is I'm looking for and go straight to the Wiki entry.

What's a "front page"?

And then you realize, and I am serious, they had a page with the information you needed, but someone deleted it for their own political agenda and redirected it.

Yup. Or you bookmarked a really good page as a reference to be used later, then when such an occasion arises, you pull it up only to find that all the interesting stuff -widely agreed upon within the scholarly community- has been edited out as "controversial" and moved to Talk-page-hell because it doesn't jive with the conventional malarky-views expressed in your average Middle School textbook.

i.telegraph.co.uk

Has an idea of what you are talking about . . .

In the past year or so my annoyance with the Wiki crowd has grown by leaps and bounds to the point where I'm back to using it for what I originally used it for - track listings of albums and CDs. But I no longer use it to keep track of who was playing for certain bands on which albums because for some reason that info seems to have vanished. Controversial? WTF? Why?

I'm not sure why Wales would be surprised by some 16-year-old Aperger's shut-in abusing his/her position. That sort of dishonesty is the essence of Wikipedia.

But who doesn't love Gibraltar™ as much as the Olympics™?

I think Wales needs to drop the hammer here, for the sake of WP, and to hell these jerks. The world is filled with people, and it's unlikely these guys are irreplaceable. Tradtion be damned: If you want to be taken seriously, Mr. Wales, then you must be willing to BE serious, and prove to people that you are.

FTFA: Bamkin's current client is the country of Gibraltar.

Wat? Someone should slap the CNET writer.

If only there was an online tool to verify if Gibraltar was actually a country or not :P

The irony is overwhelming.

Also, what's up with the author?

"Violet Blue (her author's name/pseudonym) is an award-winning author, columnist blogger, journalist and is regarded as an expert in the field of sex and technology. She is a member of the CNET Blog Network, and is not an employee of CNET"

Tell us more and how did you become an expert on that :D

And she looks like a quirky sex succubus:

She started years ago writing columns about sex, sex and the Internet, and sex and San Francisco culture for SFGate. Just being in the Bay Area and being a young, tatted, woman writing about sex is guaranteed to get you invites to Boing Boing parties and the coolest SF geek/sex cultures.
