On the one hand, obviously you can't be writing that on there.

On the other hand, I kinda have to give him credit for turning the offensiveness meter to 11 immediately. This woulda been a LOT funnier if it were in the NFL after the writing on the eye black was banned, just to watch the sh*tstorm.

I was disappointed when Bobby Cox traded him, because he was a damn good infielder, and a great leadoff hitter who could steal. However, after learning what a jerk he was and apparently still is in the locker room, I'm thinking Cox made the right decision.

Now if the Braves could just keep a healthy shortstop. Playing SS for the Braves this season is like taking a job drumming for Spinal Tap.

So what was written on there? I assume the Spanish version of the F- word (no not that one, the other one the homosexual slur one).

How stupid do you have to be to think that's a good idea? Like MLB doesn't employ a single person who speaks Spanish? Or is it some kind of cultural difference that made him think this wasn't a big deal?

I'm the first to say political correctness goes too far sometimes but this is just a dumb move by this guy. If for nothing else then he's alienating gay MLB fans.

He wrote Maricon, which I don't know Spanish but some are saying its offensive and some say its the English equivalent of girly.

Another angle is, considering how well it was written, that he is taking the fall for someone writing it on his eye black as a joke.

BTW, Blue Jays suspended him not Selig.

Eye black is pretty much stick-on patches these days. You notice how they're both the exact same size and shape? But damn that would've been hilarious if, say, he said "write something on there that makes me sound fierce, like people should be afraid of me!" and a teammate wrote that on there.

the point was that he could have (well, he did) written it on there, then stuck it on. Which is why he's in trouble. A teammate didn't write it. Hence the rest of the paragraph.

Basically he's written stuff there before but no one really looked closely. A fan at the game took a long lens photo and only noticed it later when he put it online.

They already have language experts in Toronto talking about it to the papers. The phrase could be interpreted anywhere from "You are girly" to "You are a p*ssy". However in Cuba where he is from it can be as serious as :"You are a f*ggot."

The fans and sports radio in Toronto are out for his head and are just crushing the Jays for the light suspension. This has also exposed the uber childish nature of the Jays clubhouse this season and the Manager is under fire for that.

A disastrous end to a terrible season.

Yunel had average to gold defense and I remember him hitting 2 or 3 with some power not leadoff.

That being said everything else you said seems correct, yunel was not missed and blamed everyone else for his problems.

Thats the thing. I haven't heard of any troubles with him since he got here. I talked with some Braves fans on here before and I knew he was in Cox's doghouse before he was traded, but I couldn't understand why. Nearly everything he's done on the field has been positive, and I never saw an attitude problem that you guys talked about. He was a good trade considering there was no way we were keeping gonzales. Needless to say I'm unsure now, but it seems like everyone is taking the right steps.

Actually, Bud Selig didn't suspend him (yet)... it was the Blue Jays' own brass that did.

Good for you Blue Jays. Stay Classy.

Well, I'm glad he's working out better. Sometimes a trade from a great team like the Braves to a crappy team like the Blue Jays will serve as a wake up call. =)

Maybe it was a wake up call or he could feel less empowered in a whiter than white area, in Atlanta he could be in Cuba, Brazil, or Mexico in a matter of minutes just bythe immigrants that have moved here.

We don't mind him gone since Randall seems to be doing well, he just needs to stay healthy, that kid will be a superstar if hes not injury prone. The braves just need hitters, I don't know what's going to happen next year, they lose chipper and I'm not sure they are ok the way McCann is not hitting lately. The team is decent but not a WS contender and next year they may be worse.

They just swept the best team in baseball. They have the current best starting pitcher (Medlen) and best closer (Kimbrel) in the game. The team is doing well offensively as a team, even without a superstar. Don't tell me they're not at least a contender.

Medlen single-handedly knocked me out of my fantasy baseball playoffs. Over the two week playoff he gave up only one earned run, had 25 innings pitched and had something like 32 Ks. I did see their run scored average of those two weeks in the range of 2.4-2.6. They need to start manufacturing runs a little better for the playoffs.

The best part about the press conference was his line about having gay friends :

And Atlanta is a Latin mecca, you can find any Hispanic culture here in droves, the black population was going down in comparison to the Hispanic population which is insane to even consider could have happened. Hell even the black population is going down inside the city limits and is in danger if being 50% white for the first time in 20 years.

Personally I like Hispanics being the other main culture here since Latin women are hot, and attractive black women are virtually non existent.

I'm talking black in the inner city subsidized housing type, is where its doesn't exist or is rare, I could go in any Latin area near me and find 20-30 hot women in 30 minutes. I am sure I could find a hot black woman in those areas but its like finding a needle in haystack. Its a hot to average ratio, even average Latin women can still be hot and it drives me crazy.

I found it on this website http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/article/1258364--blue-jays-yune l-escobar-to-address-homophobic-slur

might not have been that exact article, but they have 3 articles about it now. Were you the fan quoted on twitter about not knowing what to do about it? Or are some news sites not getting their facts straight? One article talked about how unnecessary the eye black was because Roger's has a roof - which i then laughed at nonstop for the poor journalist and couldn't take his article or "facts" seriously. Wanting to know if he got that part right at least.

Escobar's lost salary, approximately $30,000, will be donated by the Jays to You Can Play - a project co-founded by Patrick Burke, son of Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke, to support equality for gay athletes - and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Aye, go on and fark with the gays. They'll rip you off in a heartbeat. Just ask the boy scouts.

And not only are they going to get this guy's money, now he has to shill for them too.
Escobar will also undergo sensitivity training and participate in an outreach effort "to help educate society about sensitivity and tolerance to others based on their sexual orientation," according to the club.

Yo, Yunel, you get to do some time in gay hell.

I'm having a hard time believing that NOBODY in the dugout noticed what he had written on his eye black. It is terrible grammar though, proving once again that bigots and the proper command of language don't go together.

It's a fairly common Spanish insult to yell at sporting events. When I inadvertently ended up sitting in the middle of the Honduran cheering section at a US/Honduras soccer match once, when the fans weren't screaming insults about players' mothers being prostitutes, they were busy chanting about players being maricon. My sister took to yelling back at them (in Spanish) about how would they know unless they had personal experience.
