You know vegetables grow outside in the soil, right? You know - where the animals live...

It's happened in the U.S. several years ago and was legit. The salad greens bag was still sealed.

This happens. Most sane people just remove the animal and wash the produce, or toss the produce. It's not really a news worth event.

Never had a problem with Tesco. But in Ireland--I think it was Aldis--I bought some tangerines, and they were infested with little larva on the inside.

Do vegans ever wonder the hell that lettuce is put through so they can enjoy their salads?

Aren't baby frogs called "tadpoles"? Is it necessary to be melodramatic over "baby frog" murderin'? It's bad enough when we do it for humanity's tragedies...

As in: Fourteen people, eight of them children, were killed Tuesday in a freak woodchipper accident.

And yes, I know: subby was only trying to be funny, but it wouldn't have surprised me to see it in print. Anti-cruelty groups do it all the time. It's just as bad to be cruel to an adult dog as it is a puppy.

The headline is referencing a Monty Python skit.

I used to work for a catering company, and while onsite (at the Audobon society in Topsfield MA), one of the women who was prepping the salads let out a scream. I ran over, and saw a little frog with his legs wrapped tightly in with the stalks of some sort of loose leaf lettuce. The frog was still alive, but his legs had withered away from being tied up for a while....

BTW, the lettuce was imported from mexico, so the frog was obviously an illegal, trying to sneak in with the lettuce, derpity derp derp....

Next thing you're gonna tell me you found a bug in your green beans. I won't believe that either.

This happens all the time. When I was still at college I did quality control for these people and the amounts of frogs, mice, voles etc that end up in vegetables is astonishing. Most of the time they are removed from the lines. Biggest problem was always the snails though. You end up having to throw a whole bunch of stuff away for that.

FTA "She hadn't saved the frog" and "Last week another Londoner, Olly Goldenberg of Northolt complained he too had found a frog in his bag of Tesco spinach."
So basically she was just lying to get money and publicity.

Are they sure it wasn't some sort of mock frog?

I have done product recalls* for about 15years. One of my funniest (at least to me) recalls involed a ma who purchased a premixed/bagged salad. When he got to the bottom of the bag he dumped it out to eat it and a dead, dried up mouse fell out with the salad. Small frogs have been found in canned veggies.
This is disgusting but millions of tons of food are processed each year here in the US. I am surprised that there aren't more machine parts, small critters and other contaminants found in our food.

*I go to stores and make sure recalled foods (like the pet food recall a few years ago or the peanut butter recall) are removed from the shelves. I remove it if the store has not. I also go to homes, pickup and ship back to the manufacturer any problem foods.

♫ I've heard the screams of the vegetables ♫

Watching their skins being peeled (having their insides revealed)
Grated and steamed with no mercy (burning off calories)
How do you think that feels (bet it hurts really bad)
Carrot juice constitutes murder (and that's a real crime)
Greenhouses prisons for slaves (let my vegetables go)
It's time to stop all this gardening (it's dirty as hell)
Let's call a spade a spade (is a spade is a spade is a spade)

Loves me some AW
