"Three bunk beds on top of each other. You've seen, you've seen them? (Oh...yeah, yeah!) And, and, and around this factory was a fence, a huge fence with barbed wire and guard towers. And, and, we said gosh! I can't believe that you, you know, keep these girls in! They said, no, no, no. This is to keep other people from coming in."

Telling a jovial room of fat-cats about his giddiness at seeing the sweatshop conditions that young (and likely younger than reported) women in China work in to make the small appliances that likely end up on Wal-Mart shelves for 9.99 (and break next week).

Who is this guy? None other than a major party candidate for leader of the free world.

And possibly the biggest misanthropic asshole in North America.

I know it's still 50 days away but is this guy still considered electable? It seems like the Obama campaign can just let Mitt do all the work for them.

2012-09-19 02:18:35 AM
It's pretty sad when the greatest country in history can't produce a factory with 120 girls to a bathroom worth buying. This is Obama's America libtards.

I guess you guys have never been inside a public woman's bathroom? Talk about nasty......(I know because I work electrical maintenance)...you know...work on the lights and things...yeah...that's it

Bet when Romneybot's number crunching program finished factoring in all the hours those girls worked at that pittance of a wage under those cheap abysmal conditions he did his best Randy Marsh creme fraiche impression.

China needs a general strike.

The only explanation for Romney saying such utterly ridiculous things on such a frequent basis is that he must be constantly high off his ass.

Those girls wanted to be there by golly. We could all learn from these girls' can-do positivity.

What's more is that he probably made up the whole story. He can't whine without insulting people, he can't brag without looking like a dingleberry. He barely makes an effort at vicarious experience. Mitt Romney is the alpha and omega of navelgazers.

I'd actually be more disturbed if he DIDN'T make up the whole story. Do rich powerful Americans often visit factories surrounded by guard towers and barbed wire and think, huh, THIS is what we're missing in the USA! Cause that is terrifying to consider.

The man makes enough money each day to live comfortably the rest of his life. He's awesome and he knows it.

I'd get him elected if he traded me his worldly wealth.

I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if Romney had experienced something similar to what he claimed, either. Think of it (and at least the past two weeks, if not the entire campaign) as his "corkscrew landing" moment, but in the fabricated story he actually plays a bigger asshole than in the real story.

What is not brought up but part of the Republican narrative is that is how they want job conditions in the U.S. Why else do yo think they want to destroy organized labor and labor laws? They want to make the American worker so desperate they will accept a lower standard of living, less pay, and no benefits.

PRECISELY.

And a lot of white southerners are HAPPY to go along with it so that black folks will "keep their place."

This is exactly right. Republicans dream of a country where Americans live in dorm houses, forced to work 12 hours a day for little wages, and be thankful to their glorious masters for allowing them such an opportunity.

The ironic thing being that it is the white southern workers who will be taken advantage of the most if this comes to pass.

FWIW, I think I figured out the GOP strategy this morning. Make normal people hate Republicans so much that they then embrace Republican ideal which shiat on the idiots of society, to give them what they keep asking for.

The real irony is that white southern workers have been taken advantage of like this for generations due to their antipathy toward unions (= black folks having a bigger piece of the pie.)

Just slap a 35% payroll tax Patriot Fee on the girls to pay for it. Also an extra 28% on stuff they buy with scrip at the company store.

Skin in the game, f*ck yeah!

It's an old bullshiat story that has been going around forever.

But the way he tells it implies that he's a naive twit and/or he thinks his audience is stupid. 'Oh, yes, the guard towers. They're because...erm...so many people try to break in...to...work here. Yes, that's it.'

Come on, they're just young girls waiting to get married. Not like they matter. Once they're acquired by a job creator, they can have the private bathroom. They've earned it through appropriate use of their lady parts.

First, don't do a GIS for "Asian squat toilet" while you're eating.

Secondly, here is what these 120 girls share:

Can you verify the toilet pic I posted above? Is this the norm in any dormitory or public restrooms there?

God, there is just no bottom here, is there? A week before the election we're going to be getting tapes leaked from a Skull and Bones ritual where Mitt harvests the liver from a live orphan child, while Fox News hammers Obama for wearing vertical stripes with a plaid tie.

I actually agree with him on this issue and he still comes off as a raging out of touch douche saying it.

My stance is that from the US POV it frees up resources that are currently being used stamping a metal plate in some factory to do something potentially more productive. The issue is there needs to be more assistance to help people that are displaced by this sort of movement find new work and help their families. I think outsourcing is better on the whole for the country and economy as it prevents legacy inefficiencies from lingering, but there are real losers at home when it happens and someone should be obligated to help them.

From the Chinese POV you cannot look at it with western preconceptions. The fact of the matter is the conditions are horrible but they are also a million times better than having to collectively farm every day. This is how the Chinese middle class is forming and it's not pretty. And the fact is unless Chinese factories can start producing things at world class quality (they will in some time, but that's still a ways away) they are going to have to compete on labor costs. And as harsh as it sounds and as repressive as the CCP is with regards to human rights, they do honestly seem to have the interests of the people in mind as far as Economic development goes.

I think it's a hard decision that cuts 55-45 in favor of outsourcing, but you really do have to accept that that 45% negative is there.
