In my experience, yes they do. Rough texture, sharp edges, crumble in your mouth. Just like a breast.

Your breast, they remind me of red bean paste.

Has anyone pointed out that rice cakes and mochi/daifuku are in no way the same thing?

Not sure what mochi/daifuku is exactly either. Assuming this is pounded wet rice that is this soft springy asian version of common western wheat dough?

This is probably on the exotic side to the average farker.

daifuku guys talking about?

Japanese rice cakes are different than what we refer to as rice cakes in America.

It's more of, say, a mix between a cheesecake and a sponge cake. so it's a little dense and a bit springy (Japanese rice cakes, that is).

Well, that article did nothing for my low opinion of Japanese culture.

I believe you're thinking of manapua or char shiu bao which is a Chinese wheat flour bun with char shiu in the middle. It's indeed spongy and fluffy. Mochi is very soft and jello-like, not bready. I can imagine that if they were warm they'd feel like the boobies.

They have an odd sweet-bland taste that's not my favorite. A hot, steamy manapua is much better in my opinion.

Mishno: Mochi is very soft and jello-like, not bready.

Jello-like?

What the hell kind of jello have you been eating, exactly?

I'll grant you it's not bready, but it's no more jello-like than it is bready. A somewhat springy dough would be closer.

2012-09-19 04:42:24 PM
Well I don't know having never had said rice concoction, but I'll be happy to research it. To ensure accurate results I'll need the help of about 20 farkettes for several days. All in the name of good science, of course. :)

I couldn't think of a better comparison, you're right, dough is closer. But jello is a better description than sponge cake. Picture jello coated with flour. That's what Mochi feels like. I still like manapua better.

Never heard it called manapua, I guess that's Hawaiian, according to Google. But yeah, give me a mochi and a steaming-hot char siu bao and tell me I can only have one, I'll eat the char siu bao. Wouldn't turn down a mochi though, they're delicious too.
