The record scratch sound has morphed from the sound of an actual physical occurrence to an abstract aural signifier of an abrupt stop to the current narrative. It's like the recorded "click" sound your touch-screen phone makes when you press a simulated button.

He's playing stuff from that era, but never gives the artists credit. Like all these modern Disk Jockeys.

There have been no advancements of note in electronic music for about 15 years. DJ's just spin stuff from a decade ago, and everyone is amazed because they were listening to Phish or something and sneering at electronic when it was new.

KMFDM has put out some really good stuff in the last decade, but i'm not really even sure what to classify that as anymore.

As an Orbital and AT fan, I would say Apparat. (Not really his latest album, but everything else the man has touched.) Lemme see:

Telefon Tel Aviv
Funckarma
Chemical Brothers (starting to taper off, but albums 1-5 are good)
Anamanaguchi

Apparat - Wooden (with a cool video)

Funckarma - Nays of Dight
Moderat - Rusty Nails

Maybe 10 years would be closer. I know some people call dubstep new, but it just overuses a bass trick electronic groups were doing long ago to the point of being annoying. Nothing original to it, although making new sub-genres gives the illusion new things are happening.

I'm very willing to change my mind if someone can link something original from the last decade. Always looking for new music.

Groups like Throbbing Gristle were using 8-bit sequencing in live shows way back in the early 70's.

Although i would still count chiptunes as something new. And that actually slipped my mind. I freaking love The Massacre in particular.
