A friend of mine is an ex-Muscovite. According to her, this is just the very public tip of the iceberg to the abuses that have been happening.

I listened to pussy riot the other day. Maybe it was an early album, but they sounded like a simple garage band. Which to me made the whole trial that much more ridiculous.

Russia's at a tipping point, and this is where that cliche about "freedom isn't free" becomes real. Will they slide into rule by a not-so benign despot, or will they decide they've had enough of this assclown and do what ittakes to take their country back, even if that involves open revolt?

Difficulty: they tried unrestrained capitalism of the laisse-faire kind and it worked as badly there as it did here, leaving a bad taste in many Russian's mouths for all Western values including freedom of expression and democratic governance. Also Russia has never been a democracy in its whole recorded history so they have no model to draw on for inspiration

This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with Putin.

I am convinced he will attempt an attack on U.S soil, or possibly even canada, because of our resources up north. Probably with his Chinese friends help, within the next generation.

They never did during the Cold War when they were pouring every rubble they could into trying to match our military, and they won't now. Putin is enjoying his despotism in his own corner of the world and has no designs on trying to take the West.

This. Democracy to them means a drunkard giving the country away to his cronies. The 90s were Russia's Great Depression. Putin's probably president for life now.

Are we taking bets on what radioactive isotope will be found to have killed him? I'm taking bismuth-209, because Putin will want to switch it up and make for a really long drawn out death.

We're starting to see the problems China and Japan are having over resources. Once China's billion+ people make greater strides to the middle class, their consumptions will shoot up to hugely dangerous levels. Russia, I'm not so concerned about, they have resources coming out their asses. Most likely it'll be China going over to Russian territory. They've been in a few skirmishes over they years, they're not CLOSE allies by any means. China to South America and Africa are near certain, too.

Well, if you've been following the news even casually over the last several months, it's not a surprising headline at all.

Yea, I pretty sure the Church said they forgave them, almost immediately, after their arrest.

They aren't even really a band. I've heard they're like a very loose collective, some of whom play together semi-regularly. I'm pretty sure any bunch of girls can put on balaclavas and call themselves "Pussy Riot", sort of open-source activism.
