Islam is going to have to get over themselves at some point and grow the fark up.

In point of fact, Cenk said he didn't care what some guy in Pakistan (not 'Lybia') said referring to a guy who said that the production crew for that stupid piece of agit-prop hate film needed to be hanged.

Cenk's point that Joe Scarborough's attempt at an argument was pure tripe (essentially "They hate us cos they hate us, not because of drones, economics or torture, etc.") was well made.

Sad thing here is that this is American Christian fundies deliberately riling up Muslim fundies particularly in the ME and it's the non-fundies, the ones trying to be reasonable, who are getting hit in the crossfire.

Fark all fundies.

Um. I self-indentify as a liberal/progressive, or liberal, or progressive, or all-of-the-above-however-you-want-to-say-it, and I don't care what people think of we Americans as much as I care that they leave our diplomats unharmed.

Only speaking for me, but just saying'.

quatchi: Islam is going to have to get over themselves at some point and grow the fark up.

There was a gentleman on Diane Rehm this morning pointing out that back in the middle ages, when Islam was peaking, they could care less that people in Europe were slandering the name of their prophet. Because they had all the science, they had all the culture, and they were confident.

In essence, I interpret that argument to mean that they have so very little, that all they have to cling to is the value of their religion. When you insult that, you insult literally the only thing they have left. They're very touchy right now because they are keenly aware of the fact they are no longer near the top of the heap, but they remember a time when it wasn't so. Our casual disregard for their past glory is probably a hard pill to swallow. A reality I'm sure we'll get a taste of in about 200 years or so when half our continent speaks Mandarin and the other half speaks Spanglish.

It helps you sound mysterious.

Yes, we know you idolize al-Qaeda and radical Muslims in general. After all, they're right wing social conservative fundamentalists, just like the Teabaggers! The only difference is the name they call their deity.

/Let the fundies like Santorum and Bachmann take control of the government, and we'll be Afghanistan 2: Nuclear Boogaloo within a decade.

Obama promised that 100% of earth's population would love us by the end of his first term. Clearly, he has his work cut out for him. I can hear the Libtards now, "Bu... bu.. but Bush!" Nope, can't pin this on the other guy, Obama owns this travesty.

Yes, I know. Which is why I didn't say "The only difference is the deity they worship". It's "The name they call their deity".

Christians call the deity of Abraham God. Muslims call it Allah. That is apparently enough.

I think a bigger factor is that communications have improved a bit in the last 900 years and they hear the criticism now.

The gentleman in question seemed to imply that the occupants of the middle east at the time were well-aware of the "scholarship" coming out of Europe at the time. They just didn't care about the criticism because, in those days, the people in Europe were the backwards buffoons. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and they don't have the scholarship they used to, only a tradition of scholarship that has fallen on hard times.

Of course, the average man on the street was probably unaware of what was being written, because back then you had a much smaller educated class no matter where you were. Perhaps they would have been more outraged, I dunno.

Way to completely misrepresent and misinterpret what was actually said, I hope Subby didn't hurt himself too badly twisting himself into knots.

What was actually said (paraphrasing) - In response to some yahoo in Pakistan who was demanding that the filmmakers be hanged for blasphemy: the commentator responds that basically this is America, where we do have freedom of expression and we aren't going to limit it or start punishing people just because of what some yahoo in Pakistan thinks.

(Personally, I cannot understand how any American with an IQ above potato, whether left, right, or center would not agree with that assessment.)
