Surprised they didn't let him go with just a warning. Must have found the only Deputy in Georgia who isn't a Falcons fan.

Please, I read Friday Night Lights, being black's okay as long as you're a star on the football team! Yeah, that was Texas, but close enough! lol

A Gwinnett County police officer pulled over Turner's black Audi R8 on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta after clocking the car's speed at 97 mph -- 32 mph over the speed limit, said Cpl. Edwin Ritter, a police spokesman.

Having driven around the Atlanta area a few times, I can only wonder why the officer singled out his car amongst all the others doing 90+.

it was gwinnett county at 5am, not 75 through downtown at rush hour.

Car Service. You can afford it. Hell, get a Limo with a wet bar and take your crew.

You'd think the Falcons would insist on it.

Do you suppose there were a lot of people driving around at 4am?

actually in the ATL area there is a surprising amount of traffic 11 PM through 4 AM.. I have absolutely no idea what it is about, but I want to believe that drugs are involved, and people trying to get to florida before they die.

Yeah he's black. Let's just forget the 32 over while drunk and blame the stop on race.

If the highways are clear (as most are at 4 am) you should be able to drive as fast as your car will allow you to.

I'm guessing he didn't want to leave his R8 overnight in Midtown. I've left my car overnight all over the city for 10 years and I've got the dings to show for it. It's better than a DUI.

Drunk driving and speeding are two entirely separate issues. They just happen to both have occurred in this case.

SuperT: it was gwinnett county at 5am, not 75 through downtown at rush hour.

Good luck doing 7.5 during rush hour. :p

Wee hours of the morning are the only times you can speed excessively on the highways around Atlanta, so in my experience most people do.

2012-09-18 01:15:58 PM
The thing about 85 is there are parts of it where you can go 90 without even knowing it...not the Gwinnett parts, but if you're south of Atlanta between 85 and 185 it's hard not to get close to 90, especially going North.

I got pulled over once for going 100 on 75 near Windy Hill. First speeding ticket ever...they gave me 6 months probation

I don't know about the drugs, but I have to drive through Atlanta from Florida to see my relatives up north and I always plan the trip so that I go through Atlanta in the wee hours of the morning. Because every time that I don't I get stuck in a car jam. And Atlanta's car jams are an aggravation that I can live without.

And this is exactly why you should be able to speed during those hours. I remember living in the LA area and it's damn near orgasmic when you get to take I-5 going even just 80. It's like going warp speed when the average speed traveled during the daytime on that stretch is roughly 3 mph.

Hey it is Gwinnett county they take everyone to jail, they are also either one of the most corrupt or most incompetent police departments in the state, they regularly lose large amounts of evidence and most of the time it is large quantities of drugs. They always play dumb and if you have met some of their officers you know it is not a put up job, they will hire anyone and then do a half-assed job of training them. Interestingly according to a detective buddy of mine they don't take transfers and routinely fark up air-tight cases.

It's simple: you open your hood, pull off the wire to your distributor cap, close the hood, and call your towing company. Gets you and your car back to your house in one piece. Even better, have a buddy on call.

At least 22 of the NFL's 32 teams (including the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans) offer designated driver services to their players. In addition, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) offers designated driver services in every NFL city. These designated driver programs are usually available around-the-clock, emphasize confidentiality and cost the players little (or sometimes no) money.

Basically it's a lot cheaper than the $5k it's going to cost him if this is his first offence. I had a DUI about 6 years ago and have never drank and drove again nor will I. I would rather pay 100 in cab fare or just not go out.

My lack of understanding just how ridiculous I-5 traffic could get caused me - lifelong Mets fan - to not hear about Johan Santana's no-hitter until after it was over. And during the rest of my time in LA I was shocked at how much midday traffic there was on the freeways. I had heard the horror stories but I didn't know just how far it went. It's farking nuts there.

Anyways, I've been in traffic jams on the BQE and the LIE around midnight/1am. They're not exactly the norm but they happen. Few things are more frustrating.

Ummmm its an R5, its not that simple.

And dui in Georgia will cost more than $5k, its an extortion racket, at that time of day he should get less since the only person he's endangering is himself. Of course he can hire Bubba Head and spend $15-20k to make it all go away.

I heard audio of a buddies ticketing of s black female who kept screaming he was racist for giving her the ticket, problem was he was not able to even see the driver from his vantage point just the car. She was the only one in the car at 11pm doing 87 in a 55 but it was his fault for her getting a speeding ticket.
