That first half was a nightmare, and if you tuned back in for more after halftime, you deserved what you got. And you're part of the reason Roger Goodell feels he can do whatever he wants, by the way.

I couldn't really check their alignments- I had a horrid, choppy feed for the game*- but the Falcons were obviously showing him something in the first quarter that he was processing as "the deep post is my hot read", and then just sitting on the route.

Sadly you don't even have to be "neutral", as a Redskins fan our game with the Rams was close to unwatchable because of these chumps. The Rams got screwed out of 2 TDs, both teams got hosed on bad "late hit" calls, a flag was thrown (and thankfully picked up) on a guy getting tripped as he went into the endzone (can't go to the ground for celebrations). And that doesn't count not being able to accurately spot the ball, missing the unsportsman like on Fisher for throwing the challenge flag on a turnover, etc.

I'm okay with bad or non calls if they consistent AND you are managing the game properly. But when you don't even understand the basic game management things (spotting the ball, when the play clock starts, when reviews are automatic, etc.). The missed and non calls become epic failures.

Big farkin' THIS. That was without question the most incompetent officiating crew I have seen at any football game, at any level, ever. It was an absolute embarrassment to the league who will continue to swing their dicks around until the Officials' Union breaks. Just a travesty.

But kudos to the Broncos who still managed to climb into that game after that atrocious first quarter.

Stupid Falcons. I had a decent FFL lead but Ryan went out and dominated.

I liked how they acted like Atlanta had been dominating. Naw, that offense was pretty damn unimpressive except when they were drawing phantom PI calls to bail out their stalled drives.

That defense against someone who had no problems when playing Pittsburgh is a big deal, aside from a few missed tackles then Indy doesn't get that close.

The only thing that concerned me was the offense got too conservative in the second half instead of trying to attack.

If the defense keeps playing like this they will be a team for others to be worried about all season.

How do you know they wouldn't have made more adjustments to force more mistakes?

I felt like some of the Falcons' defenders were getting pretty damn dirty out there, but I have to give credit to the guys who got a pitch-perfect read on Manning on those first two possessions. Pissed me off, somewhat, as I was pulling for the Broncos, but they really were pretty fantastic from a defensive standpoint. It looks like the O-line will need to do some serious work and Peyton will need to school these guys some more on that whole no-huddle thing... there was one play that just went all to hell because nobody did what they were supposed to do. Still, once the Broncos got settled late in the 3rd and in the 4th, they really got it going. They just weren't expecting the ferocity and speed of Atlanta's defense, and it cost them big-time early on.

This is an outrage. It's well known that Michael Turner is incapable of moving more than 50 yards in a given day.
