The country had a chance. We were right there, in late September 2001, idolizing the NYPD, FDNY, et. al., and we could've turned to being a country that idolized the good old fashioned "American worker." But no. We have to idolize the other type of person. The American AW. Ambulance chasers, trailer trash, the children of the rich, just generally speaking the worst this country had to offer.

We blew it. And it's gonna take a while for us to recover from this, if ever.

The MBAs are sniffling; holding back their tears to keep up appearances.

And this is why networks love reality programming. It's super cheap to produce and it captures a demographic with more money than brains.

What is that movie where the guy is dying and decides to go kill a reality show "star"? I want to watch that now.

If such a thing exists, I want to watch it post haste.

Also, at what point is scripted TV cheaper?

I attempted to watch the Honey Boo Boo show last night and turned to Monday Night Football when they were sitting in their living room eating pork rinds and cheezy poofs talking about going on a diet and Mom says something like 'Some peoples got 5 or 10 chins, I only gots 2' and then steps on the bathroom scale and is too heavy to register. And thank the stars for subtitles or I wouldn't have understood a word, and I grew up in the south! I will not watch again.

LOL Subby..... With two Master's Degrees and a PhD (all three in a "Liberal Art")? I'm sitting quite pretty right now with a tenure-track teaching position at a major Midwestern university.

Yeah..... An undergrad degree in communication studies (my field) doesn't get you much unless you learn how to make burgers quickly, park cars, etc. But a Master's degree.... with an undergrad degree in something related to business can get peeps a job paying more than I make. The ability to communicate effectively is consistently in the top five most desired skills by corporate recruiters.

/Suck it Liberal Arts haters!

Yet when compare that to the level of education that these reality "stars" have and the amount of money that they make.

I remember someone on here saying that we used to watch Al Bundy and Archie Bunker because they were dupes. They were knuckleheads that we could laugh at and how we don't need those characters anymore because we have found them in real life now.

You aren't tenured. Maybe a little early to say you are "sitting pretty"?

When I look at someone with 3 advanced liberal arts degrees, I see someone who doesn't want/need a real job. So teaching should be right up your alley.

I'm not appalled, I'm glad they get paid so much to be a cautionary tale. I mean in Grandpa's day, it cost a nickel to get in the carnival and the sideshow freaks would tell you about the freaky sex with flipper-girl for a dime. He'd shiver when he told me about listening to that story. I sure hope the sex with that woman was worth the dime.

He's wrong. Any advanced degree in the liberal arts says that.

I bet the Motorcycle Guys made a mint off the publicity.

Wonder about the Crab Guys.

/Only "Reality TV" I could stand.

Was it just me, or did that slide how masquerading as an article not mention anything about what those people make on their respective shows? Is this subby's fault? I need to know who to blame for this.

I know people who are involved in the celebrity industry in the UK and they reckon that people on reality shows earn a pittance, if anything at all.

The pay off comes later. These people are then in high demand for doing celebrity appearances (like opening shops), they'll often have books or endorsed products that follow soon after.

You can watch it now on Netflix.

I don't know what the article said, who wrote it or what publication it was in. That's because a large annoying ad for something in a green bottle shaded and obscured my screen. The distraction made me go away.

Take THAT, Internet!!!

1 out of 4 MBAs are talented and put their innate business skills to good use. The other three are notorious suck-ups and ass-kissers who keep their jobs and income through intimidation, guile and outright bastardly behavior.

/We tried to send our most annoying MBA to Ireland once, but Ireland made us take her back
//Real-life Dolores Umbridge, I kid you not
