Shaun White has a habit of getting hammered and acting like a stupid teenager? Gee, who could have predicted THAT?

What's that got to do with anything?

Except that he "ran into a citizen" and got a pretty nice shiner.

I can forgive him for this, and the hair - but I draw the line at the 'skinny jean snow pants' that will be worn all over the slopes this coming season.

Athletes put their sport and their performance first. They are at the cutting edge of technique and precise timing. Snowboarders do not - Snowboarding is practically synonymous with drugs and booze. Snowboarders and US skiers are not athletes. They're stoners.
That said, good on them for fooling the olympics committees and all the sponsors and TV networks otherwise. They've opened a cash cow that funnels in excess money for...more drugs and booze.
Any of them dying?

I loled.

Reminds me of my failed excursion to Stratton, VT as a poor college student. I've never seen so many $2,000 skiing outfits snowplowing along on rental gear. NY license plants on giant SUVs as far as the eye could see. I got the stink eye when I parked the 1994 Ford Aerostar a little too close to the Land Rover.

Oh.

Bode got engaged today. So is that what Shawn White was so pissed about?

NEW YORK (AP) - Olympic and world champion skier Bode Miller has announced that he's engaged to professional volleyball player Morgan Beck.

The five-time Olympic Alpine skiing medalist tweeted their engagement Monday night.

A post to Miller's certified Twitter account with a picture of a ring said that ''I have found the one!!! And convinced her to marry me. It was a process (at) MorganEBeck is hard to convince. I'm super excited!''

The 34-year-old New Hampshire native is known for a go-for-broke style on the slopes that has resulted in 33 World Cup wins, two overall World Cup titles and five Olympic medals, including a gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Games.

Yeah, I was the skier out on the slopes in a hand-me down snow suit, a wool cap, mittens, and a cheap pair of tinted safety glasses with a strap, on rentals. Some of my other friends wore Carhartts (which were usually soaked by the end of the trip). When I was 14 for Christmas I got a pair of "last years" skis, boots, bindings, and a nice pair of gloves\goggles, which I still have 16 years later.

I always wanted to try snowboardiing but I only get to go once a year (if that) so I don't want to waste an entire trip on my ass.

I spent half a winter carrying a roll of duct tape. After every run I had to tape one of the edges at the tail of the ski (wrapped tape around and around) to keep the edge from coming totally off.

Argh! If I were you I would totally plow through him, impaling his Beats by Dre headphone wearing face on my left Vokl - IF I didn't have to stop at every crest and catch my breath.

Well, if you weren't so engrossed in your damn music maybe you could get off the lift and out of the way faster! But noo! You have to sit at the bottom of the little ramp and carefully put your damn binding on, making us skiers go around you!

I'm going to assume you are trolling, but I will bite anyway.

Yes, actually, they are dying. Canada had two die last winter, I think it was one of each sport, and they were national team members, so they were pretty good.

And yes, they are athletes. You don't see many fat boarders or skiers at the top.

As for drugs and alcohol, they are synonymous with professional athletes, doesn't really matter the sport. It's not nearly as bad as it used to be with all the drug testing they do now, but it's still out there, it's how a lot unwind.
