(The Big Lead)   The Onion wrote an article about ESPN's Stephen A. Smith arguing with his 9-year-old son about sex. Stephen A. Smith fired back at the lies on Twitter. Related: Stephen A. Smith is not familiar with The Onion   (thebiglead.com) divider line 38

HAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAAA! Dude knows what SNL is but not The Onion.
I may actually DVR First Take to see who gives him crap.

In his defense, he dropped the outrage once he was told it was satire.

Some people never figure it out.

I'm surprised he's familiar with what "satire" means.

vudukungfu: who?

1/3 of the cancer that is killing ESPN.

The other 2/3 are the people that keep him, Skip Feckless, and Colin Blowhard employed.

Quite frankly I think that is some funny stuff.

SAS is the only blowhard worth listening to, though to be fair I think Forrest Gump could school Skip farkface in a debate.

The last time I saw First and 10, Bayless was debating someone about playing defense against Dirk. May have been Bruce Bowen. Basically, Skip was embarrassing when it came down to the details and it was pretty fun to watch.

Titty Sprinkles.

People will go to. Amazing how folks try to tear cats down, primarily due to perceived power of the spoken word.

Not true. On the Internet, cats have their own day.

Smith = arrogant blowhard

Years ago, ESPN's daytime hours were filled with European soccer games, replays of games from the night before and SportsCenter reruns. And showing sports was so much better than showing blowhards argue about sports.

Also, he doesn't understand the point of twitter, posting an rant across four posts

Years ago there was a really good article from, of all places, Deadspin about the problem with sportscasters these days. The long and the short of it was that the majority of them have no connection with the fan anymore and can't relate to them. Listen to any sports show and it's nothing but "experts" yammering back and forth trying to out-troll the other just to generate talk about, what else, themselves. There's a reason why fan blogs, as poorly written as most are, have taken off. People want to talk about sports with other fans, not have some big mouthed goiter scream into a mic for thirty minutes about why Eli Manning should be compared to Joe Montana.

Is not knowing The Onion one of "those" things?

I gave up on SAS when I realized what a racist shiat-bag he is.

The problem isn't blowhards, it's having the wrong blowhards. PTI's pretty great.

Fade2black: I gave up on SAS when I realized what a racist shiat-bag he is.

Examples? I live in NYC so he's a talk radio host over here and he's second to no one else on the air. Of course his competition are Michael Kay, Mike Francesca (who is fine but I personally agree with SAS's opinions more) and that Jewish-sounding guy who says "Metropolitans" and "Knickerbockers" every time.

I'm white and don't I've never heard a racist thing come out of his mouth, unless you're counting how quick he is to point out when black athletes act like fools, which ain't really racist on his part, and he's quick to hang up on black callers who blame race for why the media is coming down hard on this or that basketball/football/whatever-playing knucklehead. Of course, I only hear him on ESPN NY, don't watch the national show.

Plus, Skip Bayliss is an arrogant sack of duck penises.

I have the feeling that "The Onion" is "White comedy", maybe?

I recall the Wayan's brothers being on Letterman years ago when the Williams sisters were about 2-3 years into the starts of their careers, and Anna Kournakova was in about the height of her popularity of being the popular, super hot tennis star who isn't good enough to really win anything..... and they were going on and on about the Williams sisters and Dave asks about Kournakova and they are like "Who?". This reminds me of that.

I like that one because they're on a tight timetable. As Simmons says they set it up in a way it's hard to fail.

Or not. He seems to think Satire is a website or something: "I didn't know it was on Satire."

I'll be completely honest and say that it's been long enough I forgot. Over a year. The only parts I recall were because he felt some white players were getting preferential treatment while all the good ol' black folk were getting thrown under the bus. Was football related. And utterly stupid. He ranted and raved for about 20 minutes. I would have national ESPN on before my morning 6am show would start locally (west coast), and he was always on. And his last 10-15 minutes was always some stupid rant that meant nothing but for him to grandstand himself and sound relevant. It was a *huge* turnoff, and that's coming from a sports radio nut, so we're not exactly brainiacs. *shrug*

He might be annoying but SAS sounds like a genius compared to Skip Bayless,

I'm not a sports radio junkie, but I deliver pizza so the radio is always on and when there's no game on and I'm sick of the same crap music I listen to sports radio. I'm not familiar with the incident you're talking about, not ringing a bell. Sports radio is fascinating, in a "holy crap people are dramatic and delusional" kind of way.

I don't know if he says the same things in so many words on nationally aired shows, but on the NY shows he's very open about being a Tebow-hater and refers to Tim's fans as "religious zealots." On that point I completely agree with him and damn near all the other hosts I hear on the radio (except for that impossibly-sarcastic and ancient-sounding Jewish guy) tiptoe around Tebow's religion in a "people project a certain vision of America on him but he's a good kid so who can blame them" kinda way so they don't have to come across like they're dissing religion.

I've got a bottle of champagne on ice for the day Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless kill each other in a homoerotic suicide pact.

The best thing about this is that someone in the comments section provided a link to Literally Unbelievable, where remarks of people who take Onion articles seriously are compiled. Quality entertainment.

Skip Bayless is paid to be a contrarian. This often leads him to say incredibly stupid things to keep the debate going.

Eh I have to be in the mood since I'm a Yankee fan and he talks about the Mets like 80:1--but I'll take his personality over John Sterling's "lol MLB players born in the early 90s are fascinating to me because my brain stopped absorbing pop culture in 1988 so that was like yesterday right" drivel or Michael Kay's "everyone except me sucks ass and that says a lot because I have low self-steem" shtick, any day.

You would assume a guy who appears on a fake debate show would know about fake news...
