Article mentions a six foot shark.

Picture depicts a Great white that is almost certainly significantly bigger than six feet, and probably a different species altogether.

Teitoi, who seemed in good health, said he booked flights back to his home island...

So, even though a Shark saved him, he is staying loyal to the Jets?

Sharks can be attracted to boats by about any two different metals exposed to the same seawater. I blame galvanic current for this rescue, somehow

ultraholland: I'm missing the point of this fable.

A guy was delirious with hunger and thirst. A shark was testing his boat, thumping on it, looking for an easy meal. He looked up, and a ship passed by and they stopped and saved his life.

He thanked the shark.

Did I miss anything?

How did he thank the shark, I wonder? A little light applause? Or did he really give the shark a hand?

You missed how he had to team up with the shark against their common enemy, Bigger Jaws.

"The record for drifting at sea is believed to be held by two fishermen, also from Kiribati, who were at sea for 177 days before coming ashore in Samoa in 1992."

If somebody from that island asks if you want to go fishing in their boat, tell them no.

So they admit they were lazy and just grabbed the first shark image they could find, rather than at least get one that MIGHT be the appropriate shark. I still maintain that they were lazy.

Yes, and it was a fateful trip, that started at a tropic port, aboard a tiny ship.

/then the weather started getting rough, or, more likely, the crew fell asleep.

I fished on Christmas Island (about 1500 miles south of Hawaii just above the equator). The island is part of Kiribati. One of the guides told me of his grandfather being rescued by a manta ray coming up underneath him when his boat swamped and sank. The ray carried him to safety to an island miles away. The guide was very serious about the story. I did not think of delirium or dehydration at the time. I thought granddad only had fermented coconut juice to drink.
[Didn't say so though.]
One can see from this story how these tales get started.
