Big brass ones, she has! And that cop should lose his badge for what he did. Especially when he evaded. Any cops out there care to chime in on this?

He must have thought she'd give up after a while.

"You don't respect me! You don't respect these people out here!" "I thought maybe this cruiser was stolen."

According to my ex-cop friend, you let them go when they're part of your department, but if they're from another jurisdiction or agency, you throw the book at them.

Cops chasing cops at 120mph...good to know they always have the safety of the people they are supposedly serving in mind, and not their ridiculous egos. They both should be fired.

The end of the video sounded like she'd seen this guy many times before and she was good and irritated with him before the chase even started. She's probably local county police and this guy was a Miami officer going to a security gig at a school in her town.

But the best part of becoming a cop is that you don't have to obey laws.

The Miami cop was fired two days ago. And in the aftermath of this (the chase, not the firing), the trooper had feces spread on her cruiser in the middle of the night. Classy.

This happened on 10/11/11. He was convicted in April with a slap on the wrist and it took them another five months to fire his sorry ass. Hmm.... I wonder which department he works for now?

Just about got slammed into this morning by a highway patrol car making an illegal lane change. the laws do not apply to them! I must have been between him and the donuts?

Fallout

But Trooper Watts, when she busted him, apparently violated some unwritten rule that police officers, unlike the rest of us, get to howl down the freeway at insane speeds just because they're police. The arrest set off a feud between the FHP and Miami police officers, who were outraged that a law enforcement officer might assume speed limits meant for mere mortals might apply to a fellow cop.

Watts was denigrated as a traitor to the uniform. Anonymous posters on law enforcement websites loosed a torrent of low-down, vicious, personal, utterly juvenile attacks on Watts, stuff that would embarrass middle schoolers. A bucket of feces was dumped on another FHP trooper's car in Miami. In November, in a bone-headed attempt at revenge, a particularly foolish Miami cop pulled over FHP Cpl. Victor Luquis and made a caustic remark: "How does it feel to be stopped in a marked unit?" Then he realized that Luquis was the brother of Miami Police internal affairs Sgt. Ronald Luquis. He offered to buy Luquis dinner before he sheepishly hurried away.

fark you, cops who do this. You are part of the problem. YOU are the reason that people mistrust cops. When you condone the criminal actions of other officers, you are criminally complicit and you are making ALL officers' jobs harder.

They found some 793 cops from a dozen police departments had zoomed along between 90 to 130 mph.

I guess it's just a few bad apples, eh? At least 793 bad apples by the Sun-Sentinel's count.

The 80s were great! wish I could go back! Cops actually did the protect and serve thing a little better back then. Now they are more of a paramilitary force with an us versus them attitude.

The implication I always got from it as a kid was that they spent their time eating donuts instead of doing their job of keeping bad stuff from happening, so I'd say it probably started as a kind of dark humor type thing; chuckling over their love of donuts instead of getting pissed about how when your car got vandalized and you called the cops about it they gave you the brush off, or how when you happened to see a store getting robbed and reported it to a nearby cruiser, the officer just said "I'm off duty" and drove away.

Since your eye's need checking too apparently, she is FHP not local/county, kind of a big difference.

Skyrmion: I appreciate her sense of justice, but is a drawn gun really necessary?

If the speeding officer had pulled over immediately, no, however he only pulled over after a 4 and a half minute high speed chase. If you had lead the cop on a 4 and a half minute high speed chase, you bet your ass she would have drawn her gun on you, and been right to. Showing reckless regard for human life and a complete failure to understand the consequences (in this case speeding down the highway while being chased) shows you to be a dangerous person, hence drawn weapon.

A high school classmate of mine was killed by a cop speeding in a residential area with no lights or siren.

He t-boned her car at something like 75 miles an hour coming around a blind curve.

It makes me very angry to see cops ignore traffic laws unless they are on a call with lights and sirens.

Being a cops does not make them magically safe on the road.

We have the technology to track and hold officers accountable now, it's time this BS stopped.

The thing that caught my eye is that the dashcam seems to show the same scene sometime after, but at sunrise. What private-school event with "high-end people" happens in the wee hours of the morning?

And as she said to him, she was worried that the car was stolen [because he was driving like such a maniac and not pulling over].

/Sure, :). I have no problem with this, as he was doubling the speed limit (which will get you reckless driving in most states) without lights, no reason at all to go that fast. Just because we are police officers, we are not above the law. We should set the example, not the exception. Props to the trooper for doing a good job.

2012-09-18 09:17:37 AM
I live in a rural area and we have no police but state troopers, they are always tear assing around and driving recklessly. Especially if they want to pull someone over, they will create a dangerous situation just to catch up to someone without using their lights or siren. I don't understand the logic behind it unless it is just because it is more fun that way.

Seriously though, he got a minor moving violation, where as I would be doing time. Thank god we live in a land of equality and Justice for all, otherwise this might piss me off.
