We're boned.

/Let's proceed with the show trials of global warming deniers and global warming instigators so that we'll have somebody waiting for us after the world ends.

cherry pick data much?

2012-09-17 09:25:05 PM
Should we talk about the reduction in the number of testing stations over the years, cut by half, i think the report said.

Or the fact that many of the stations left are located in 'heat sink' areas such as next to heating vents or placed over black asphalt?

Of the way the stations are weighted with many more in urban environments - you know: high heat area.

Or the process in which temperature numbers are 'extrapolated' from one area to the next?

Yeah, the science isn't settle, it's just being manipulated by people and groups with vested interests in pushing a theory that appears to be wrong, all for the money.

I blame it on exiting the last ice age. Temps seem to rise slowly after something like that.

So what you are saying is all the scientists want to stay home from school by heating up the thermometers.

Well, we had better not try and adapt to it, because that will take attention away from working to reverse it in 50 or 100 years

Cherry-picked data is fun. Here's what else NASA says:

data.giss.nasa.gov

Notice how there are several places where you could cherry-pick a certain time period to argue that the earth was cooling dramatically (e.g. ~1943 - ~1956), when it's quite obvious the overall trend is quite steeply upward.

But then you knew that already.

No, that's what the deniers do, like Viscount Christopher Monckton. You'd like him, he's incredibly good at making lies look like facts.

Uhm, by "what else NASA has to say", I take you to mean...the 5-year moving average is currently trending negative?

Because that's what the right-hand side of your red line is doing.

So thanks for pointing out that NASA is on board also to demonstrate the trend is, if anything, currently negative.

The deniers remove the "misbehaving" stations from the station ensemble.

The deniers pick the reference datum.

Thank you for outing yourself as an absolute Troll, considering that I pointed out in the very post you're replying to that there are periods on the graph where the trend was downward, but the overall trend is clearly upward.

/ It's evening where I live, and the current temperature trend is downward, therefore GLOBAL WARMING IS FALSE.

I see SevinizGud has a new picture, but is still on the same schtick.

I notice he's no longer going back 191 months now... Evidently that stopped giving him the line he wanted so the new magic interval is 135 or whatever.

God granted man stewardship over the Earth - how can it be surprising that man can cause climate change? "God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.""(Genesis 1:28), "Throughout the land that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land."(Leviticus 25:24).

When both the infallible word of God as well as science agree, it is folly to argue.

E_Henry_Thripshaws_Disease: and the 3rd consecutive cooler than avg summer in the SF Bay Area, of course we still have 2 months of 'summer' left

Same thing in the Pacific Northwest. The mean summer jet stream has shifted southward over the eastern Pacific and northward over most of North America.

This is what "climate change" really means. It's not just an increase in mean temperature. The increase is uneven (the Arctic is warming much more quickly than the rest of the planet, for example), and the entire heat-redistributing atmospheric circulation pattern is changing as a result.

2012-09-17 10:37:08 PM
And I bet 1880 was thrown off by Krakatoa, east of Java. Or Pinatubo, south of the border down Mexico way.

IIRC, some climate models have predicted the SF area to become cooler. I can't remember which ones and why, though.

I remember the UK is predicted to get colder (remember it's up there with Canada and Russia) due to the influx of freshwater from Greenland screwing the gulf stream to hell.

This is all just a big LIEberal conspiracy.

All the scientists in the world snuck out at the beginning of August and rigged every thermometer in the world to show that it was hotter when it actually wasn't.

Luckily I know better because my gut tells me that this is what happened and every scientist in the world is in on the conspiracy.

So, we go back 170 years, and assume that that is characteristic of the entire data set? Seems quite heavily skewed towards more recent times to me. Unfortunately, we don't have records for temperatures before those times (or they are very incomplete), but suggesting somehow that 20 years of data is significantly less accurate than

When you are a goat and sheep herding people like the Hebrews, it is folly to let those animals turn grazing areas into deserts, as they can do, instead of letting land lie fallow sometimes.
