So since I am starting to get a little tired of Gangnam Style, am I a hipster?

antidisestablishmentarianism: So since I am starting to get a little tired of Gangnam Style, am I a hipster?

No, I don't think so, since in my relative little exposure to this current fad reminds me way too much of that weird Asian guy from American Idol singing Ricky Martin. Kind of a "Ha ha, look at that crazy Asian man. Boy are they wacky!" thing going on.

That said, I barely know of the trend thanks to living in Europe. I am out of the loop on a lot of the trends and fads floating around the states, and the ones floating around Spain I don't really understand enough to be annoyed by them.

It probably is a little, helped by the fact that the damn song is an earworm.

Luckily, the only time I saw the video was on my tablet in the airport. As such, I had the sound turned off and just kind of watched the idiocy. I figured the song likely had that kind of quality to it to make everyone pass it around like the clap at an orgy, so I decided it was better for me to just avoid that.

I think it reached its peak when it was parodied/used on Saturday Night Live. Good for Psy for going along with the joke, but the song doesn't get better/more interesting the more times you hear it.

No, it's flashy, catchy pop with a short shelf life.

Though this gangnam video managed to amuse me

Psy's whole thing is being funny in the first place.

We used to do the horsey thing but we called it the six gun, you would dismount the horse do the double shoot and finish by blowing the smoke off the end of your pistols.

I want to see Mitt Romney come out to his next stump speech doing the horse-riding dance. That should win him some of the hipster vote he is badly needing.

I'll tell ya Mort, it was September 17th, 2012..In a thread with a topic I only learned existed a mere 1 hour prior -from a 22yr old coworker. I watched the video, the parodies, and I didn't get it, nor laugh..nor find it amusing.

On Saturday the 15th of September, same year Mort.. I went shopping for jeans and made a remark to the female employee that I want jeans that neither make me look like a thug, nor a female. She laughed and said that I was almost out of luck.

It was then Mort, it was then when I hiked up my pants, and went shopping for a sensible sedan and some lawn fertilizer..listening to talk radio during the whole drive.

LOL.

I already have the fertilizer, but I guess it's time to hike up the pants. A sensible sedan ain't happenin', but 2 out of 3 is cursed enough.

I think that was my first, "uh, I don't get it" on SNL. Ah, well, a summer spent on, apparently, the wrong parts of the intarwebz.

/ 'course, I was never hip to begin with

learned of this silliness recently in a Fark 'favorite video' thread. i got the biggest kick out of this singer and his moves. absolutely love it. he owns it and he knows it. having fun: good on him. life is too short to be grumpy & serious all the time.

I actually enjoy the song (way more than any LMFAO crap)...the vid is funny too. Psy reminds me of that comedian from MadTV Bobby (the asian one)...

After less than a week I'm already tired of it...

On the other hand at least it's better than cringe inducing Honey Boo Boo.

Not bad... but I still hold everything up against Chacarron .. it's doing well, but it's still not quite as awesome.

I love the song, and enjoyed it even more when I understood that it was satire mocking people with inherited wealth. Psy is a boss, and I admire his draft dodging and that he paid a huge fine for marijuana possession. I'd love to hang with the guy.

Much like perch, they're a little bony but rather tasty when properly prepared.

K pop is a bit of harmless fun and is a way to loosen up and express yourself in what can be a very rigid social structure.

Stationed 6 years in ROK.

If you are tired of Gangnam Style, listen to Right Now, also by Psy. Jump to ~40 second mark to skip intro. Even if the song doesn't get you, the girl dancing on the roof of the car will. "Mother of God!" and all that. Hoo.
