Has there ever been an incident where someone called in a bomb threat and there actually WAS a bomb? Alerting people ahead of time seems kind of counter-intuitive to blowing them up successfully.

Indeed. Leave that little bit off your resume and focus more on leadership based extra-curricula and such. Otherwise they will make you that egghead.

True, true... Although if you really wanted to mess with people, I suppose you could call in a whole bunch of false alarms until everyone gets lazy and bored and stops paying attention and then BLAM!

I don't know how that would be worse than BLAM with no warning, but then again I'm not a crazy guy who really wants to mess with people.

The IRA did that all the time.

Didn't the IRA do it because it guarantees innocent people are moved out of the way and now it's surrounded by police/soldiers?

I doubt highly the Jihadists care about that sort of thing.

The smart terrorists tend to occupy the stages of buildings that other people consider sacred.

I sure do wish they'd call one in for my school, I could use a nice nap today. Better yet, they could do it next week when our highly publicized trial begins, so that the news will focus on that instead...

It's never a bomb. Well, almost never. Rare enough that we should continue business as usual, and not cater to bomb threats. The people of Israel would never leave their concrete bunkers if they ran scared at every bomb threat.

If somebody really wants to bomb you, they're not going to warn you first.

Ex-gf works at LSU and just called to tell me they were evacuating. Says they've had suspicious packages before and they never evacuated the whole damn place, so this is probably something more than that.

/Hooray for me, I'm on the other side of town.
//Srsly, it's not even mid-terms yet. Seems kinda premature.

Mr.Hawk: Bomb threats are the new fire alarm pull...

Time for a cool story.
I have a handicapped sister with the mental capacity of about a 2-3 year old. Like any other toddler she will get attention any way she can. When we were kids we went to church every Sunday. One Sunday my sister needed to use the bathroom so I volunteered to take her. We were almost to the bathroom when she spotted the fire alarm. She literally ran across the hall and pulled the alarm before I could even register what was going on. Now, I'm older than my sister but she's much bigger than me and "retard strength" (although I find that term offensive) is a real thing. I couldn't pull her away or get her to sit down or anything. She just stood there and laughed. I have no idea how she even knew what a fire alarm was or what it would do but it sure brought her the attention she was looking for. Of course they evacuated the church while the fire department checked things out. I told my folks what happened. All the people that attended our church knew my sister and just laughed it off. They were probably greatful for the interruption. On more than one occassion my sister would stand up in the middle of the sermon, yell "sh*t" at the top of her lungs, then flip the switch and turn the lights off. Why my parents always insisted on sitting in the front row next to the light switch always amazed me. I thinks it's because it was close to the door so we could make a quick getaway if my sister started acting up or had a seizure. Good times in church. Good times.

Yea, but then you'd always have that one dumbass that swore the safety was on, press the button at some party, and make the rest of us look bad.

As I understand it, the Provisional IRA routinely called in genuine bomb threats. Maybe seeking to do property damage and undermine the UK government while minimizing civilian loss of life.

It would be way worse than just a BLAM with no warning. It would create more uncertainty and a distrust of authority across the country. "Why didn't they pay attention to the warning?"
