Why would anyone in their right mind believe in the "god" these GOP Fundies have invoked?

I have a much nicer one.
And, I have heard of many others that lack the sadistic, sociopathic, warmongering, vindictive components the GOP worships.

To me, it's sad that this woman didn't go to her husband and tell him that rape is rape. I guess she loves the perks of political spouse too much.

I guess she just points her heels towards Jesus and thinks about handbags.

I'm no theologian, but isn't there something a bit blasphemous about saying God will treat your political contributions the way He treated Jesus with the loaves and fishes?

Also, I'm no Theologian, but will Malcolm Jamal Warner be back this fall on "Community?"

I like your Hutxaposition of those two issues.

Akin married Lulli Boe, a graduate of Hollins University, in June 1975.[74][75] The couple has six children. Lulli became a home schooling activist and all of the children were home-schooled.

(intransitive) To behave like a bully; swagger.

I still like the idea of dragging people behind a chariot in order to get them to comply with your wish.

"Lulli Akin said that efforts to push her husband out of the race threaten to replace elections "by the people and for the people" with "tyranny, a top-down approach." She added, "Party bosses dictating who is allowed to advance through the party and make all the decisions-it's just like 1776 in that way."

Calmamity: Lulli has no idea what rape really is.

I'm not so heartless as to wish that on her, but goddamn it's hard not to with some of these people.

You don't have to wish that on her. Just find comfort in the fact that for people as sexually repressed as these, the occasional sex for recreation only probably feels so uncomfortable that she must have closed her eyes and prayed the entire time for it to end soon. I don't think its exactly like being raped... but there are some parallels.

And lo, I went in to the voting booth with but one ballot and Jesus was there and he sayeth "give unto me, that one ballot" and I did give un to him my one ballot because because his dad's a smiter. And Jesus did create a miracle and there were 5000 ballots for Todd Akin found in that ballot box that day even though it was a small voting precinct and was largely Democratic.

That will be my official story.

Ah yes. The loaves and fishes story.

In which Jesus redistributes the wealth of one for the betterment of all.

2012-09-17 02:04:12 PM
She's got the wrong parable. The Loaves and Fishes was to point out that if you have a problem that seems insurmountable, if you give what you have the Lord will make that meet the need. This covers GIVING not RECEIVING

The Parable of Provision, was the lillies in the valley and the birds in the air. If the Lord makes them beautiful and provides their needs, don't you think he will provide for his followers? THIS COVERS RECIEVING

Also I don't think either applies to compaining. Jesus was prettly clear on the separation of Church and State with the whole Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto the Lord that which is the Lord's.

But that's just my opinion.

Holy fark, some people are retarded. Religion just lets people be a stupid and unaccountable as they want.

I'd like to take this moment to thank the Catholic priest that told the congregation during a homily that the miracle Jesus performed was not conjuring up a bunch of food, but getting people from disparate backgrounds to share the food they had brought with them.

His reasoning was if you were going with your family, it is not uncommon to bring some food with you. Thus, when Jesus shared the food among those nearest him, people shared with the people around them. Nothing magical about it, just making all feel as one family under Christ.

I'm sure this woman would probably hate that priest with a passion.

Neither do I on that particular point, but isn't it quite convenient this revelation on her part is made once her husband's own political career became in jeopardy.

Yeah, she's an idiot with an asshole for a husband for sure, but the guy won a primary and now the party wants to dump him for someone else.

Either admit that the primary elections are nonsense, or stick with the person who got the most votes. No fng mulligans.

THIS.

While I understand reconsidering your support if you feel his comments are out of line, what I despise is that the same people pushing him out would pull him closer if the polling suggested that the comments helped him. Republicans aren't even being sneaky about it. They flat out said, he needs to go to give someone else a chance before we lose the seat he was contending for.

2012-09-17 02:07:45 PM
New Rule:

If you're a Republican, you don't compare anything to rape. Directly or indirectly. In fact, you don't even refer to rape. The "no abortions for rape victims" plank is a nonstarter for the general electorate, and if you have to appeal to the neanderthals in your religious base on the abortion issue, just mention that you know that "God's will will be done." So, you don't ever use the word "rape" again unless you're reporting one.

In exchange, no Democrat will ever compare him- or herself to Rosa Parks on any issue, nor otherwise use the phrase "back of the bus."

Fair enough? Let's shake on it.

I've never understood the point of taking the magic out of god by insisting upon logical explanations for alleged miracles. If god's only magic is a silver tongue, then what kind of god is he really?

DoBeDoBeDo: Also I don't think either applies to compaining. Jesus was prettly clear on the separation of Church and State with the whole Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto the Lord that which is the Lord's.

Jesus would not have talked about campaigns, because the concept did not exist when he was alive, at least not in the part of the world he was alive in. Leaders were born, and their power derived from farcical aquatic ceremonies, not a mandate from the masses. There's lots of things Jesus didn't talk about, because he died before they existed.

As a party they should stop using the word "rape" altogether, in any context, just to be safe.

on a related derp note... I clicked through some cspan programming this weekend... one was some sort of Republican Women conference... there was some author speaking and taking questions... some old lady stands up and asks about our government being infiltrated at the highest levels by the Muslim Brotherhood and could they enact Shiria law in this country... they speaker.. said yes it's troubling but it isn't just Obama it started with Bush trying to be 'politically correct' and bringing these muslims into positions in our military, cia, fbi, etc, etc...

then I clicked over later and there was some sort of 'values voter summit' and Kirk Cameron was speaking about how one party doesn't want god in their platform and the other party realizes that god is the platform...(wild cheers)... where have these nutbags come from? do they not ever get out of their little echo chambers?

then later there was some 'author' speaking about his book '50 things that liberals love to hate' speaking at what appeared to be a gathering of military personnel... looked like some kind of glenn beck guy... why is cspan giving these lunatic fringe any air time at all... are they just trying to frighten us non insane people?

Holy shiat, Republicans have an unhealthy obsession for rape, don't they.?

/umm, what's a "healthy obsession"?

2012-09-17 02:09:47 PM
Why is rape the go-to analogy for the right? Well, one of two - rape and the Revolution. Oh, and the Holocaust, but I think even they realize how stupid it is to use that as a comparison.

This Congressional Wife hit the twofer of tin-eared comparisons, and one is left to wonder whether the self-aggrandizing is worse than the callous dismissal of one of the worst crimes humanity has thought up.

But why are those two analogies the first (only?) two signposts on the "GOP Comparison Scale"? Do they fantasize about raping a British noblewoman in front of George III while Paul Revere gets his "two if by sea" freak on in the corner?

So here's the important question: What the hell's so bad about Mccaskill that Akin's polling even again with "no support"?

Missourians?

2012-09-17 02:11:25 PM
The quote in question, from the cited National Journal article:

She cited colonists who "rose up and said, 'Not in my home, you don't come and rape my daughters and my ... wife. But that is where we are again. There has been a freedom of elections, not tyranny of selections since way back. Why are we going to roll over and let them steamroll us, be it Democrats or Republicans or whomever?"

The article also says that the GOP can't even get a hold of his phone number anymore; he changed it after someone tweeted it and they've been unable to reach him since. The people still in Akin's campaign have utterly circled the wagons and aren't taking any orders from anyone.
