(YouTube) Video Tom Lehrer's "They're Rioting in Africa," written in 1958, seems eerily appropriate even today   (youtube.com) divider line 17

The Toto song works well when that lyric is substituted as well.

If it is History, then it's a Repeat.

Actually this was written by Sheldon Harnick but is often credited to Tom Lehrer because of it's caustic style. Still a good tune, even today.

It's freaky, it's almost like if you study history you can get an idea of what the future will look like...

/and I don't like anybody very much

The song is titled "Merry Little Minuet". I knew the song growing up, dad always had the Kingston Trio in the tape deck on road trips.
I looked it up, it was actually written by Sheldon Harnick, not Tom Lehrer.

So, headline fail.

//good song though
//Wikipedia says "It is in the caustic style usually associated with Tom Lehrer and is sometimes incorrectly attributed to him"

My parents too. I still have a great fondness for it, but I can't say for sure whether it's nostalgia or actually liking the music.

Me too... probably either, or a little of both, depending on the song.

Have Scotch and Soda on my iPod.

I thought that was 'The Merry Minuet'? Anyway, I own everything by Tom Lerher, including his children's songs, and I never associated this song with him, but instead always with The Kingston Trio. But I don't actually know who wrote it, so can anyone verify?
