Campaign Intern: Governor Romney, our campaign is going down the toilet. Our internal polling shows we are going to lose mightily. Our campaign strategy clearly isn't working.

Mitt Romney: Gosh...Stuart, what IS our campaign strategy?

Stuart Stevens: Well, so far our strategy has been to have you spout empty platitudes about the economy.

Mitt Romney: So what are we going to do? Get more specific about the economy?

Stuart Stevens: Don't be ridiculous. Do you want to lose or something? Our new strategy will be...to have you spout empty platitudes about EVERYTHING!

Mitt Romney: Stuart, you are a genius. I knew there was a reason I keep you around.

Great work, guys.

Cinaed: Cletus C.: The economy is still the winning ticket for Romney.

Until you look at any of the numbers. If the economy was still in the toilet, then it'd be easy.

It isn't, making the pitch into one of those 'it's doing okay, but I could totally do it better' deals, which is a harder sell to make.

We need Romney so we can finally end partisanship and reach across the aisle to give the republicans everything they've been asking for.

Psssst: Foreign Policy is one of Obama's strongest assets. The only people who you will convince that he's weak on it are folks who were going to vote for you anyways. The economy is getting better and more importantly people view much of the slow recovery on the GOP's obstructionist pro-corporate policies (which is why you don't really want to focus too much on the economy). The GOP was hoping that anti-Obamacare would give this race to them, but two things happened: SCOTUS told them it was legitimate (the part that the GOP added, btw) and they nominated the man who created Romneycare. It is only a matter of time before you have to debate Obama, can you keep the mouthpoopers and wife beaters in your party from talking about rape or passing more penis-goes-where legislation? I think not because your cohorts are TeaTards.

xsive: Funny considering China's state-run news agency is already Telling him to shut up.

From the link: The official New China news agency responded Friday with an editorial calling Romney's remarks "as false as they are foolish" and saying that it is "ironic that a considerable portion of this China-battering politician's wealth was actually obtained by doing business with Chinese companies before he entered politics."

You know you're having a rough campaign when the Chinese are heckling you for outsourcing jobs to them.

Cletus C.: The whole country, or even most of it, hasn't caught onto the fact the economy is OK.

2008 National Education Rankings:

Blue States: Average of 20.5
Red States: Average of 32.4

When the voting electorate of your base is proven to be at best less knowledgeable and at worst less intelligent than the opposition party, it's easy to sell them on the idea that a) the economy isn't getting better or it's even getting worse and b) that Jesus rode dinosaurs.

Cletus C.: coeyagi: Cletus C.: NateGrey: Cletus C.: The economy is still the winning ticket for Romney. Stop playing defensive on diversionary issues like the contrived "war on women."

He's running out of time, though.

Are you auditioning for Mitt's campaign adviser?

What is that, a seven-week job with minimal at best prospects for the future? Nah, in the Obama Economy I'll stick with what I have.

THIS is how you show blind allegiance to a tax and economic plan that has been revealed to no one but maybe Joseph Smith's ghost.

Nifty job of drawing false assumptions, based only on the voices in your head, then throwing in a religious slur to tie it all up with a bow.

If I wasn't the tolerant type I am, I'd probably be storming an embassy.

There isn't a false assumption there. By virtue of the fact that "Obama's economy" is a known commodity and it's shown improvement, you're showing blind allegiance to an unknown quantity, Romney's economic plan. You might not now you are, but you are.

Also, religious slur? Are ghosts forbidden in the Mormon dogma?

Please Cletus, keep up the white knighting, I don't know what we'd do to fill the time if we weren't raping your arguments like Todd Akin rapes common sense.

Epoch_Zero: WorldCitizen: Has he said anything yet that makes his policies different from G. W. Bush?

W cuts the taxes of the rich from 39% to 35%.
Romney wants to cut them from 35% to 29%.

That's the only main difference. He wants to continue the Afghanistan war indefinitely and start a new war with Iran. All while cutting taxes and increasing defense spending.

Think January 2009, but with super gonads.

I wonder if anyone has explained to Romney that a war in Iran would not be anything like our wars in Iraq, despite the similarity of their names. I'm serious. I think it needs to be said, and bears repeating.

KarmicDisaster: So, everything Obama does or ever did including being born is still bad, right? I knew it.

His existence is an affront to "traditional marriage" as it was known in 1961.

And, since "tradition" can't be changed, the right-wing must still be against miscegenation.

Wow just read TFA and noticed this:Stevens said the economy is likely to remain
"the dominant focus" of the campaign. But ads and speeches will focus on a wider array of issues, including foreign policy, the threat from China, debt and the tone in Washington.
