The right wingers in Israel are as bad for their country and the world as our own right wingers here at home. Our President should treat them like any other hostile leaders whose interests conflict with our own...diplomatic ties, but not friendship.

I'm ok with this. The US president shouldn't have more than a cordial relationship with the Likud leadership.

One more time you partisan asshats.

A bad relationship with Bibi and Likud is not a bad relationship with Israel.

Not agreeing with every whim of a foreign, independent country is a "bad relationship"? It sounds more like the U.S. is simply moving to a policy of treating Israel closer the same way it treats any other country. Not sure why that's "bad".

The current party in power in Israel is directly descended from the Irgun. An organization that blew up the King David Hotel which was at the time the largest terror attack ever committed (you might want to talk to the Mongols about that record though). They also assassinated the UN representative trying to solve the Middle East problems. They also threatened to wage a terror war in the UK. The British left the Middle East shortly after they were attacked at the King David Hotel.

The Irgun was rejected by most Jewish organizations for its reliance on terror and preemptive strikes against civilians.

Interestingly, the current government gives ribbons to former members of the Irgun and their families.

I could care less what Bibi Netanyahu and his religious zealots want. Whatever it is, it isn't worth thousands of American lives and trillions of American dollars. Bibi can hate all he wants, he just has to put his dick in his hand and wave it around. Not our dick. Not anymore.

Since I don't give a f*ck about Israel, it is nice to know the President isn't enabling their war mongering.

I often wonder how much the Israeli government sweats over the idea of Israel losing its status as the only functional democracy in the region, and thereby losing a good portion of the realpolitik reasons behind the U.S. giving them so much support...

The Right Wing's* on going circle jerk over who loves Israel the most is another issue that is going to become painful to them as demographics change.

Who really focuses on Israel, and that the unconditional support of Israel should be the cornerstone of US foreign policy, some Jews, and premillenial Christians. Religion is the only reason why people support Israel, now they may claim it is because Israel is an ally of America but really can you point me to anyone who isn't Jewish or a fundie Christian who supports Israel?

As America becomes more and more secular the population is going to be looking at the middle East and saying, "why do we always side with Israel?" and "Why don't we just stay the hell out of there"
But the base of the Republican Party, premillenial Christians will still be obssessed with Israel and support of Israel will then be even more important for the purity test. Another feedback loop.

*Pat Buchanan and his ilk excluded.

...and a number of the people involved in that attack went on to be tried for war crimes.

No, I'm sorry: they became Prime Ministers of Israel.

You know how farkers always get pissed when people accuse them of anti-Semitism when they say anti-Israel things? That's why. There's a world of difference between the terms.

I always laugh when I hear him referred to as Bibi. It's Swahili for "grandmother".
