Evidence of this new direction in South Korean masculinity is easy to find. In a crowded Seoul cafe, a young woman takes some lipstick out of her purse and casually applies it to her male companion's lips as they talk.

"Oh god honey, my boss is in this restaurant, let me borrow your mascara!"

I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

I've had that idiotic song stuck in my head all weekend. I hate my brain.

It wasn't always this way. The ideal South Korean man used to be rough and tough.

Not the only country where this is happening. Sadly.

Makeup companies try to sell this idea in America every decade or so. I dread the day it actually catches on.

I'm sure hormones in the water have nothing to do with this.

So this trend is catching on in Asian countries?

Time to invest in cosmetics, I guess.

So Korean juggalos are like kings among men?

I'll have to ask my son about this, he works for a Korean company doing business here....all the senior mgmt., are Korean. There are definitely some cultural differences, the Koreans think nothing of getting into other employees food, eating some and then putting it back. But then they also all eat communally together, maybe this is why, all their food is shared between them at lunch.

This would culminate in a workplace shooting or mass poisoning if I worked there.

/don't touch the fat guys food.

I'm all in favor of wearing woad in the workplace.

If Gangnam Style is reflective of South Korean culture I could go there and change the physical appearance of the next generation Koreans through my superior male virility.

Hmm, I wonder how hard it would be to wrap things up here and take one of those gigs teaching English over there...

Don't know why, but the idea of a dude wearing makeup just outright disgusts me. Good thing I never had plans to visit Worst Korea.

So... South Korea waited a while before jumping on the metrosexual bandwagon and now they've crashed the ride?

It's almost like the flu: the later in the season you get it, the worse it's gonna hit you...

I think it's sexy. Not the make up, but wanting to look perfect. It's really refreshing to have roles reversed.

Moonies! Makeup! Starcraft!
Starvation and Mass games kind of seems preferable.

/ Have been to both countries several times. Both are lovely in their own way - Best Korea of course is a terrible dictatorship where people suffer terribly and there is not much to recommend about the government.. but even so... but I hope that once unification comes, that the baby won't be thrown out with the bathwater as it was with the dissolution of the USSR. Only now in places where I've been in Ukraine and Russia, say, is there beginning to be a grudging appreciation of the fact that taking down or overpainting what were in many cases quite beautiful murals extolling virtues of family, labour, and the like in favor of billboards pimping Skodas, Snickers, or mobile phone tarriffs wasnt a great idea, even if of course in their original time such murals were viewed with suspicion and cynicism.

I lived in Korea for several years and I am no expert on the culture...though this strikes me as odd. I can't think of any man wearing make up in an office. Then again I didn't work in an office.

Yes, *BUT*...

I got more than my fair share of poon when my hair was down to my ass. Having said that, it was never 'styled' beyond getting it braided, which is an excellent way to get familiar with ladies, btw: I used to ask them to braid it for me right before closing time, because I had to ride home on my motorcycle. Once they've run their fingers through your hair, they are sold.

Its not just South Korea suffering from this scourge

Our once manly races have become completely biatch-ified.

ya know if it really were just that, why not go back to not going to the bathroom in water? it'd be a lot more environmentally friendly anyhow, and would save water

The thing about men in that time period is- guys who dressed like that would also be carrying swords, and they would know how to use them. Haven't you people ever seen Dangerous Liaisons or Scaramouche?
