That's why I frequent "Paddy's Lunch," in Cambridge, MA. They just might be able to rustle up a stale packacge of peanuts if you ask nicely, and the bartender knows you.

I have a great collection of bars here in Louisville. Can always get in, always have good drink deals, and the beer selection is top notch.

I couldn't agree more. None of those places come to mind when I think about the best bars in the world.

Oh certainly not, I would never argue otherwise.

It's just a shame because there are some places in West Hollywood where it can be a lot of fun some nights and other nights it just becomes a cavalcade of douche.

Re: Bar Rescue. If you cannot make money with a bar, you are an idiot. 80% of the time, the owners don't even know how to cost out a menu. That goes for all the other restaurant rescue shows too. Everything you sell should make a profit.

I was talking about places that sell Stella by the bottle for about 8 bucks each when you can get half the mix drinks on the menu for less. For some reason D-Bags love their Stella.

/Funny story, in the UK they call Stella "wife-beater" because it's about 3 pounds for a 4 pack of 12oz cans and is only bought by people who get drunk and beat their wives. It is regarded as the lowest of low class beers. Whatever ad agency they hired in the USA deserves a raise.

My favorite is a place a couple towns over. The bar is next to a cigar shop. The guy who owns the cigar shop owns the bar, which makes it, by default, a cigar-friendly pub. The patrons range in age, but they tend towards just generally more respectful folk who like to get drunk. All ages, and all types. It will probably never make a TV show, but they pack the place almost every night, so they're doing something right.

There's places that don't try to be clubs that still do bottle service at an insane mark up. They claim to be "up-scale bars." It's insanity, how they get away with charging a grand for a $40 bottle of grey goose is seriously beyond me. People are just that stupid.

Yeah d-bags LOVE Stella these days. I'd rather cozy up to a nice IPA for half the price of your average glass/bottle of stella at a bar. Or, as you said, any number of mixed drinks that are often sold at a fraction of the cost.

He explained in one of his shows that it is a tourist trap. The hotel is very pretty and I did go there to drink a Singapore Sling. Pretty bar but I'm not sure it would be considered on a top 5 list.

The thing is, Stella is fine if you don't expect more from it than what it is, a lot like PBR. I used to buy it all the time when I was a student in London because I was a cheapskate but the price over there is about what it's worth.

Full disclosure, I actually really enjoy Stella when a want a completely non-offensive/safe beer. It tastes better than the American alternatives, and is high enough quality to keep me from having the worlds worst hang over the next day(I discovered my body can no longer tolerate Keystone like it used to). I just wish it was as cheap in the states as it is in Europe.

And you're absolutely right about wasting daddy's money. Places that offer bottle service are kept afloat by trust fund babies with no concept of money or what things are actually worth.

I don't know the name of it, but it's on Highland across from the douchey Lucky Strike bowling alley. It's a great neighborhood place. Plus, you can take the Red Line there which is good for when you get blasted.

Red Lion in Silver Lake is pretty cool, though it does sometimes get filled up with the kind of people you meet in Silver Lake. Still, their back patio is a great place to hang out on a summer evening.

The Blue Room in Burbank used to be a pretty awesome dive, until LA Weekly wrote about it being a great dive. But by now maybe the hipsters have gone away.

You're thinking of the Power House on Highland. Fun story about that place; opened the door to the bathroom and walked in on 3 dudes doing coke on the sink. Stood there in shock until one of them slammed the door on me. Why wouldn't you lock the door?!

Trivia night at Sardos in Burbank can be a fun time. The Draft on Whitsett and Riverside (Sherman Oaks? Studio City?) can be perfect if it's not crowded during the playoffs or something.
