I find the hardware build quality of my BB Torch is as good as my Galaxy S, while BB/OS 7 was actually a bit more reliable than Android 2.3. Main problem with my BB is that the apps suck, both from the manufacturer and third parties.

I just took the plunge and upgraded my Galaxy S to Cyanogenmod 10 this weekend, so I'm now running Android 4.1.1. It is really nice. Makes the software on the BB look even more primitive. RIM really needs to get their software act together...

I think smartphone is a misnomer, since most things people do with them are stupid. Phones can more accurately be divided into 3 categories:
Phones -Nokia Brick, Motorola Razr, etc.
www.visualphotos.com
Work Phones - Blackberries
cdn8.wn.com
Toy Phones - iPhones, Droids, etc.

I'll give you that, but at the same time while a fake is possible, it's pretty unlikely since those scores match up pretty well with Apple's numbers. We'll see.

In the end, if you enjoy your phone that's all that matters. This whole iPhone VS Android war is about as childish as when I was a 12 year old arguing SNES VS Genesis. I'm as guilty as anyone in The Great War, but a recent moment of clarity helped me see how silly it really is.

Benchmarking doesn't really matter across platforms as Android's environment for most benchmark apps run on the JVM. Anyone who's concerned about speed would use the optimized libraries instead.

Here's the Android app if you want to check it out. Tried googling to see if it's JVM based but couldn't find any results.ni admit I'm no expert on the Android side of things.

I work for ATT and even the majority of apple drones who are my coworkers who were waiting on the iphone 5 moved to s3s when they saw the 5 was a marginal upgrade to the 4s.

And I doubt Apple let any phone out in the wild this time...

Geekbench is pretty well known and we've profiled what it does. While it doesn't run on the JVM, it doesn't use Android's optimized math libraries like it does with iOS's math API's.

Most of the time, any cross-platform benchmark that tries to measure raw hardware performance will be fairly inaccurate. Of course, it matters very little from a user experience point of view anyway...

That doesn't really seem like an Apple thing to do, don't they normally want to make their announcements heard instead of leaking them on a benchmarking website?

Also, the people on that site you linked are just scary.

In the company I work for they are mostly migrating away from the blackberry. I don't think that work mobile devices have to be toys but they just work better from a support perspective so far. Also after the blackberry server outages the iphone and android email apps just work better.

Blackberry dropped the ball and the iphone is going mainstream even for business people, as annoying as it is sometimes.

Except that iPhones and phones running android have e-mail capability and at least the android ones run a note-taker and a scheduler by default, which covers about 150% of the work shiat that one needs on the go.

Hell, even before I had a smartphone I used my cell as beeper for lab alarm response, so frankly they're mostly work phones too.

Basically, "work phone" is a software issue, not a platform issue. You can technically grab skype for calls and use your desktop for it if you wanted.

Except their choice in phone affects things outside their own ecosystem.

Do you read up on how the DoJ is currently investigating for E-book price fixing? Yes, even if you were on WebOS, BB, Android, you paid an inflated price just because of one company and that nobody will call them out for it. (Windows got slapped for including IE as default without restricting access to any others. For some reason, restricting access to other browsers is perfectly fine. The FF, Chrome, Opera on the store at the moment are effectively just pretty shells for the built in browser.)

Did you read up how they were stupidly close to adding a "we'll charge 30% on everything, and you cannot charge more anywhere else" clause (a slightly watered down version of what dropbox got pulled for recently)? Sure, Google and Amazon can pull their application's app purchasing support, but could you say that of everyone else?

This isn't emotion. It's me not wanting to pay more for unrelated stuff only to fund one company who already has a ton of money because its users want to throw their money at them. I would not be outspoken if their policies do not affect me as I do not have any of their products.
