No shiat. Security theatre is less about security and more about troglodytes in uniform with a pinch of power being able to forcefully punish people for attitudinal transgressions.

You're absolutely right. We tend to get what we give.

From a pragmatic perspective, I don't think it's a good use of salary or time to have screeners waste resources punishing people for exhibiting lawful but unpleasant attitudes.

Yup.

Now understand, my fellow Farkers: No one - and mean no one hates the TSA as much as I do. As an entity, and as the very small representative sample of individuals I've had the misfortune to meet. I think it's a total waste of tax dollars and is nothing more than a Federal work-for-welfare program based entirely on legalized theft and harassment. Giving those individuals a uniform and a pinch of power results, predictably, in their misusing that power to the degree they feel that they have been farked over themselves by the powerful throughout their lives. And being the one in power is farking FUN, man.

But railing against the TSA is about as effective as yelling at clouds. It's there, it's staying for now, and there's really not much to be done about it once you're at the airport. I work behind the scenes to try to get it abolished (also as effective as yelling at clouds, I fear), and I treat the individual workers like human beings even when they don't act like them.

I make myself feel better about it by exercising noblesse oblige. Smile, patronize them, and treat them like the farking retarded children they are. Humor them, since you can't do anything about it right at the moment.

Many times I see people take out their frustrations on the ticketing agent, the rent-a-car agent, the desk clerk, the store clerk, the server, etc., etc. It doesn't get you anywhere, and it may delay you.

TSA "officers" are not law enforcement officers (LEOs). They are not authorized to use physical force and they are not authorized to arrest anyone. If a TSA "officer" starts giving you a hard time, get a real LEO.

They are more concerned about checking for fake IDs and bottles of water than they are about actual security. They are implementing countermeasures today for something that happened yesterday.

Of course, when the TSA is recruiting from pizza boxes and gas pumps, this is the result.

If you want to see how f'd up the TSA is, watch "Please Remove Your Shoes" (available on Netflix Instant), as told from TSA supervisors, Federal Air Marshals and FAA "Red Team" members. ("Red Team" means to use the enemy's tactics on your defenses to see how they hold up i.e. penetration testing)

That's not what I'm saying.
Passengers have been screened ever since the hijackings in the 60s.
However, at least the airport I worked at (ALB), the screenings were done by local sheriff's deputies, ones that do have the power to arrest, and ones that are held accountable.

They had the same x ray machines, the same metal detectors, and followed the same procedures.

Difference being, they were armed and trained officers of the law, and not a bunch of impotent buffoons, employed by yet another redundant , bloated federal agency, that would be just as well suited to working at Dominos.

Did you actually think that passengers were not screened prior to 9/11 ?

You ding-aling. You know'st not even close to what you speak of. Every airport has a LEO presence and to claim that these same people were once also charged with screening every damn comm. air passenger is retarded, as retarded as obviously you are.

And btw, the x-ray technology & mtd's have improved dramatically in the last 10-30 yrs and procedures have completely been altered.

You are obviously playing back 60's movies in your head.
Sorry, you are way wrong.

If that got through security again, the outcome would not be the same.

The TSA is failing at what they claim to be doing (i.e. tests to see what can get snuck past have a huge rate of success) and it's not adding much value anyway. However it is a huge cost monetarily and a major pain for air travelers.

==============
You are little more than a boil on the ass of society.
A parasite, defending parasites.

I worked at the airport when I was in high school in the late 70s, and yes there were indeed Albany County Sheriffs deputies screening at the gates.
I spoke to them quite often, and they were just as likely to pull road patrol duty, as they were airport duty.
They weren't private security company people (mall cops) either. They were actual cops.

And yes, technology has improved greatly since then, but what does that have to do with who's operating it?

Is experience in the fast food industry a prerequisite to learning how to operate it?

I think a cop could learn it just as easily as a fugitive from the drive through.

Yes, you certainly seem to have the attitude, and intelligence of a TSA goon.

2012-09-16 09:19:13 PM
The entire TSA could be replaced by a pack of beagles. They don't make you safer, they don't serve a purpose except to create jobs for people unable to handle mall cop duties.

Sure, you have to be polite to them, but then, you should be polite to everyone, in general. It makes life easier.

Oh, honey. You're entirely correct, but a 22-second clip from the middle of a conversation isn't going to convince anyone. Either start the camera earlier, or don't clip off the end, or both, but don't try to pretend that no one knows the phrase "hey, that was taken out of context."

I would like to go on record as stating that, unlike my fellow Bostonian what_now,

I have nothing against packs of beagles, and would not want people to cause them harm.
Because I believe a more-beagle world is a more-better world. A world for us.
Thank you.

Beagles are awesomely cool dogs! The TSA... not nearly so cool. More like a waste of tax payer money to make people think they are safe whether they are or not.

tonguedepressor: Smackledorfer: tonguedepressor: Smackledorfer: That said, I'd rather we not have security theater to placate the masses.

Neither would I, but apparently there are no other options these last 10 years. Hey, but you can't say that they've let a plane fall out of the sky.

Only because the underwear bomber failed on his own :p

Never discount luck as a factor when true idiots are in the formula,

Well the TSA should stop hiring them then. with competent people doing the security theater he would have never gotten on the plane in the first place.

I see what you did there, Theaetetus. And I don't like it. Beagles are awesome, and turning a pack of them loose in Logan would make flying 67% more awesome.

Actually, Beagles DO make you safer. They can sniff out bombs.

I frankly find what_now's statement that she doesn't like packs of beagles horrific, and would add that such a beagle-hater should never represent the great state of Massachusetts. Such noble dogs are the lifeblood of our great state, and I wouldn't want to put my trust in someone who wants to see them strapped to a roof for a long-distance drive. Although what_now has not expreseed sexual thoughts about Mitt Romney, she has frequently referred to Senator Brown as "Scottie2Hottie." Would I trust a beagle around a car driven by her? No, sir, I would not.

The "Underwear Bomber" boarded the plane in Amsterdam, not the United States, so....

To be fair, you shouldn't trust ANYTHING around a car driven by me.

dustman81: TSA "officers" are not law enforcement officers (LEOs).

("Red Team" means to use the enemy's tactics on your defenses to see how they hold up i.e. penetration testing)

but... but... dude. They are offering "federal benefits".

When I needlessly walked through the US CustomsTM x-ray machine at the Detroit airport, and the lady-operator instructed me to "Hold still for 2 seconds.", I did so and replied,"Yes sir, I am a meat-popcicle."

Got a chuckle out of her so I won
