Curse of Sid Bream Magic Number is now 9. Let's get it down to 8.

All three AL division races are separated by 2 games or less. Meanwhile, in the NL, the closest division race is 6.5 games and the Braves have the top Wild Card spot by 7 games.

But, thanks to that idiotic second wild card that is such a terrible idea because change is scary and stuff, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Arizona still have plyoff hopes. Man, what a dumb idea that second Wild Card is. Sepetmber would be SOOO much better if the NL races were all but over right now.

No, Mr. Rex_Banner, sir. You see, now the Braves of Atlanta will have incentive to try their hardy-y hardest to top the Nationals of Washington so as to prevent a possible one-game playoff with a team that is currently quite far beneath them. It makes the division race much more exciting. Right? RIGHT?!

In that division? Nope. In those 3 AL divisions? Yep.

It's not the idea that's stupid - it's the one game playoff. Baseball is a game built around series. Make it a best of 3 if you're going to have it. Oooh, god forbid it'll add a maximum of 2 more days to the playoffs. Forcing it to be one game is a joke, like a tacked-on afterthought.

I've had a lot of fun hating that guy over the years, but I gotta admit he's been quality from day one.

I'd prefer a 3 game series as well, but even as it is it's an improvement because it keeps more teams in the race and it adds importance to the division title.

Tell that to Oakland, who has the second best record in the A.L.

Catch the Rangers and the one game playoff won't matter.

Seriously - please catch the Rangers?

We've still got 7 games with them before the season is over. It COULD happen! We're doing our best to wreck Baltimore for you. :)

Only when they beat them. What are the tiebreaker rules for division title? One-game playoff?

Before this year, if two teams in the same division were tied, they'd use head-to-head as the tiebreaker, but only if both teams would at least clinch the wild card. If not winning the division meant one team missing the playoffs, then they'd do a play-in. This year, a tiebreaker is used only if it's between two teams that have clinched both wild card spots, and would only mean the difference of who gets home field for the wild card game. All other scenarios require an extra game to be played.

White Sox up 9-2, if the Tigers hold on to win we'll have the same showdown we would of had if not for PPD. Minus Verlander, anyways.

I'm flipping through multiple games myself so I didn't catch the go ahead hit. The tying single was a bouncer that Porcello deflected. Might have turned 2 if he had been able to handle it

2-2 Baltimore/Oakland, top 3rd, 2 out, runner on first

Go-ahead run was a very close call at first(got the out at 2nd). Leyland got himself ejected for arguing it(I couldn't even tell on the slo-mo replays).

If the Yanks had blown that lead I would have quit watching basebol.

And that should take care of Philly. As a Phillies fan, I have to say: good. They do not deserve, under any circumstances, to be part of the playoffs, and any continued run would just convince Amaro and Manuel that the current team is just fine, and doesn't need any help.

Having said that, I will not be sad to see the Astros go to the AL. How the heck can that team be 12-over .500 against the Phils since 2004, when no other team is close?

Baseball will survive just fine, thank you very much. Come on now, don't you troll too. I've enjoyed many playoff and WS games with you.
