I've said this before and I'll say it again. If the gay community wants to be treated just like everyone else, then they have to stop this kind of shiat. It's not just the nudity being a problem. It's the public sex. Ma and Pa from Kansas will have everyone single one of their fears proven true when they run across these douchenuggets when they visit as tourists with the kiddlets. This will only hurt the cause of gay rights.

I live in a gay neighborhood in San Francisco I don't care people walk around nude it's when they start the extreme PDA, spanking, whips or playing with toys that start to lose my lunch.

really I think there is a generation gap in the gay community that is becoming more and more apparent.

As the younger generation has found it easier to come out earlier and accepted (for the most part) the older generation who where out and did the fight seem to think that their struggles were in vain because the younger generation does'nt have the same fetishes or the same lifestyle as they did.

On top of that groups like the radical faeries seem to be taking an almost Ephebophiliic tone to their actions lately.

Agreed. Nobody wants any folks to just have public sex , in view of anyone.

I'm sure I'm going to be raked over the coals for spouting an unpopular opinion, and I'm going to try hard to sound rational and thoughtful, but I'm sure you're not gonna like it...

It is my humble opinion that prudery and sexual repression is a greater evil than offending the overly-delicate sensibilities of repressed Americans who refuse to be educated about human sexuality...

I mean, it's a bit like free speech, isn't it? Yes, I realize you're rolling your eyes, but hear me out...

Just like if you want freedom speech, you have to tolerate bad ideas you disagree with being expressed; if you want freedom from sexual oppression, you have to tolerate bad sexual expressions you disagree with...as long as it doesn't involve you, of course...

And no, seeing it doesn't involve you, you didn't have to look...

I don't want to see us regress to Victorian-era, or hell, even 50s era prudery.

Because whenever Americans get a bad idea...for some reason, Canadian Conservatives just HAVE to copy it.

Anyways, just sayin'

You may proceed with telling me how stupid you think I am...

This is the Castro in SF-- It's a world unto itself. If they're easily shocked, Ma & Pa from Kansas would be best to avoid the neighborhood. These nudists may as well be straight-- their behavior is tolerated in the Castro, but it's got nothing to do with gay rights. Also I suggest Ma & Pa avoid the Folsom Street Fair...

Hey, "it takes all kinds". This is the Castro... nowhere else in America would there even be room to debate this. Where else would the public reaction be "make them at least put a towel down before they sit their bare wrinkled asses down in a restaurant"? That said, no one is telling these dudes not to be nudists. Is their sexual expression really being trampled on? Isn't it reasonable to have some boundaries for the "sexual expression" that's tolerated in public?

I think the policy for restaurants, even in the Castro, should remain "no shirts, no shoes, (and no pants and underwear), no service."

I don't think they're going to sell a lot of food to customers who have to look at fat old men while eating.

Also, he's missing who is actually being nude. From SF Weekly in 2010 (pre-skid mark law), on one particular day it was 3 straights and a gay (last paragraph of page 1).

Look, braggart, in Canada nudism/naturism isn't limited to the wrinkly/leathery/saggy/obese/fugly ancients.
You have a significant number of hawt and in-shape participants who constitute a significant proportion of nude population on your clothing-optional beaches. Count your blessings that your sample is skewed toward attractive as skewed can be.

Don't believe me? Go to the Englischer Garten in Munich on any warm, sunny day. You get an unforgettably unsightly exposure to huge numbers of the wurst of European naturist society there.

Why dies the article only refer to men running around nude? (looks at location of article) Well that explains it a bit, but aren't there lesbians in SF too?

No. Even the Castro has its limits. I have friends who live there and they don't like what's going on.

"if you want freedom from sexual oppression, you have to tolerate bad sexual expressions you disagree with...as long as it doesn't involve you, of course..."

So if I don't pick one extreme, I will automatically be forced to choose the other? Beastiality, prison rape, and lowering the age of consent to menarche has no affect on me. Am I required to tolerate these expressions of sexuality, or else "regress to Victorian-era, or hell, even 50s era prudery"?

"And no, seeing it doesn't involve you, you didn't have to look..."

If I am traveling through a public area with the expected amount of foot and vehicular traffic, I will have no choice but to look. Locomotion requires an awareness of all potential obstacles, and the person publicly exhibiting their sexuality will be in the normal line of sight. My front lawn is visible to a public area (sidewalk). Can I put up large signs with hate speech and graphic depictions of violence with the argument "if you don't like, don't look"?

"Because whenever Americans get a bad idea...for some reason, Canadian Conservatives just HAVE to copy it."

When I see the Middle-East lower class blame all their woes on "The Great Satan", I feel sorry for them, since they don't know any better. I would expect that the average Canadian would take more responsibility for the political fate of their country.

Oh, and brush up on your history. The Victorian view of sexuality was far more nuanced than OMG sex bad! Here's a few links to get you started:

Why should I shut my eyes? It's not safe. Cover up your farking dick, unless you like being laughed at.

The real laugh is the sense of entitlement that the naked guys have, spouting high-minded nonsense about personal rights and defending free speech.

Ah yes, the "free speech" excuse, the sure-fire instant way to spot an asshole who's determined to draw attention to himself, then pretend it's not all about him. .

Get Your Dick Out Of My Food: This is the Castro in SF-- It's a world unto itself. If they're easily shocked, Ma & Pa from Kansas would be best to avoid the neighborhood

It's the tourists who ride up to the Castro on the F-Market that giggle and point at the spectacle. Locals are worried that their neighborhood is turning into a S.F. version of New Orleans' French Quarter. It's a quiet family neighborhood, it became famous for being a tolerant place for gays, it got that vibrant non-conformist free-spirit culture, and in the last ten years it's gone beyond "free spirit" into "aggressive". Violence at Halloween ruined what was once a popular adult-oriented street party. The nudes cause eye-rolling, but it's the public sex that is getting everyone upset.

I don't care about the seeing it part. It's the public health issue that concerns me about nudity. People sloshing around their bodily fluids and excrement in public places is a cause of concern for everyone. And using the honor code requesting that everyone try and put down a towel before sitting down just isn't going to cut it. I don't like the idea of sitting down in a seat that might contain someone's urine, poop, or jizz. I also don't want to watch creepy people masturbate in public as they lewdly eye some poor uncomfortable victim (possibly even a child). Nor do I want to see them banging each other publicly in the park while they fling their used condoms on the ground that I'll be walking on. These are the potential things that concern me about public nudity and based on the article, these concerns are completely founded.

A better solution would be to institute nudity-welcome zones where you WANT the residents to be naked, e.g. anywhere within a 40ft radius of a sorority house or women-only gym (depending on the gym, of course). As Seinfeld observed, there's good naked, and there's bad naked.
