daxxenos: vygramul: J. Frank Parnell: vygramul: Unless you're suggesting nukes, there's very little Russia or China could do to lend any kind of support. Russia's military is poorly trained these days and China has no power projection capability worth mentioning.

I guarantee Russia has some cards up its sleeve, and China has the largest military in the world. They're just one secret project away from having power projection. Oh, and of course North Korea would jump on board, and you'd have them too. The US would be foolish to think they know exactly what all their capabilities are. Any decision to attack would be foolhardy.

Russia ain't got squat. Heck, it turns out they were pretty much a paper tiger since about the mid-'60s. China is not going to be projecting power anytime soon. Not to Iran they're not. 20 years from now, anything could happen. But not today.

And just what is NK going to do, exactly? Start rolling out artillery from their bomb-proof caves to start setting up to shell Seoul? Not bloody likely.

When Iran nukes Tel Aviv, and Dear Loser promises to send a harsh letter, the Norks will strike, 2 weeks later, once the Pacific Fleet, (what's left of it...) is well past Sri Lanka on the way to the Gulf. The WH and the Democrats will cheer, and Teheran will vanish in a final Israeli strike. The US will do shiat.

That sounds like it would make a better movie than military analysis, and it would be a pretty shiatty movie.

Just another Obama foreighn policy disaster.

But hey, it's okay because he spent time Indonesia and the Mooooslums wouldn't hate him like they hated Bush.

Soution: let's blame it all on a movie in a language they don't speak and a video they didn't see It's the Fundy's that are at fault!!!

/Ask a protester why there are protesting: answer 1: Drone strkes. Answer 2: Israel is still supported by the U.S. Answer 3: Arabs believe Americans murdered OBL and unrest staring on 9/11. Answer 4: Obama yanked security from the embassy and it was easy.

whidbey: vygramul: whidbey: This is disgusting to me.

It's almost like we don't even really have a UN anymore. It's just up to the strongest country in the region calling the shots.

No wonder countries like Iran might want to develop an advanced weapons program. Israel disgusts me. So does the fact that every major power won't or can't seem to stand up to it.

A lot of these guys kind of made their beds when they chose to align with the Soviet Union. I'm not over-fond of Israel, but people can't even agree on the hostory, much less the right solution for today.

Seeing as how the Soviet Union was surprisingly one of the biggest proponents for Israel since the beginning, not sure what your point is.

Ever wonder why almost all of Israel's enemies seem to have mostly Soviet arms?

YAWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Strangely enough, the rest of the world could: a) ignore israel or 2) attack israel.

So technically, israel aint doing squat. the rest of the world is letting israel do whatever it wants.
better yet, what they want to do, but dont have big enough stones to do on their own.

whidbey: Seeing as how the Soviet Union was surprisingly one of the biggest proponents for Israel since the beginning, not sure what your point is.

The Soviets just wanted to get rid of their own Jewish "Problem" (mainly political dissidents at the time). Soon after they left the USSR started selling arms to Israels neighbors and tried to make some of them into puppet states with varying degrees of success.

FTFA: Battleships, aircraft carriers, minesweepers and submarines from 25 nations are converging on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz in an unprecedented show of force as Israel and Iran move towards the brink of war.

Holy crap! OMFG! We're all going to die!

FTFA: In preparation for any pre-emptive or retaliatory action by Iran, warships from more than 25 countries, including the United States, Britain, France, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will today begin an annual 12-day exercise.

It's kinda funny, but I think we're all getting it backwards. A lot of people think it's Israel dictating to the world. Of course, that's how it looks. But let's look at the facts and a map of the Middle East. Iran is almost completely surrounded by countries that either have American troops or are in some way allied with America and the West and all play some part in the supply of oil.

The article states it plainly. The western countries need oil (to maintain the upward flow of money) and the only significant piece of the puzzle left is Iran.

Israel is taking the heat with some ridiculous claim of feeling threatened by nuclear weapons when we all know that if Iran really wanted to annihilate Israel they already could with chemical and biological weapons. Yeah, Israel is the fall guy. That's the price you pay for accepting billions in weapons and aid.

What will actually come of this? Who the fark knows. My thoughts: America will continue slowly deteriorating with a lot its people numbed into not caring and while some actually await the collapse excitedly. The Arab states will continue self-destructing thus opening the possibility for dictators who lean westward (e.g. Afghanistan). And Israel? Hopefully it will not be sacrificed on the altar as happens to the Jews from time to time.

We all gotta remember that the Israeli citizens do not want this shiat just like the Iranian citizens do not want this shiat. Our non-elected leaders (let's face it, we can't trust any election these days) are taking us to bad places because bad people want them to. fark them. Life is hard enough as it is. Let's please not buy in to the popular story line they're giving us. Our distrust of anything and everything on the TV, radio, newspapers, etc. especially that told to us by politicians is the first step to breaking their grip.

And? What's your point?

The fact is that Israel doesn't do shiat unless they are given permission, even if the permission is not made public. Ask yourself: what is Israel to gain from attacking Iran? will they gain economically? will it magically solve all of their problems?

Israel is a resource poor country which relies on the West for economic support. Its politicians are all crooked and it is really no more than a upscale banana republic (in fact they really do export tons of bananas to Europe). Would Bibi sell his people out? I don't doubt it.

What makes more sense? Israel deciding to commit suicide because OH NOES! THAT BAD LITTLE MAN SAYS MEAN THINGS! Or, because the West's economy is seriously struggling and the only guarantee to maintaining the status quo for a little while longer is to lock in more oil resources. The only way the West can do this while limiting blowback is to hang Israel out as the cause of things.

I picture the current administration's apologetic stance to be quite similar to Neville Chamberlain("I have met with Mr. Hitler, and he seems quite an agreeable chap").

Why not? Bibi is in contact with American right wing politicians. Do you really think any of this stuff happens without some orchestration and planning? Is everyone involved? Is Obama clued in? Maybe not. There are different teams vying for the same slice of pie. Bibi's team happens to be the right wing hawks. Obama may be a warmonger, but isn't outspoken about it. Mitt most definitely is. And he is because that is what he is being told to do. I can't imagine these people have their own thoughts at all. The puppets only do the talking.

Who? Who exactly do we attack? Libya and Egypt? Their governments? By the way, England was in no way prepared for WWII when Chamberlain was "appeasing" the Germans. Why don't you go ahead and do some violence to your tiny penis and fall asleep. Let people with brains take care of the rest.

American governments have routinely engaged in the wholesale slaughter of various peoples for hundreds of years. In the last 60 or so, America has decided to constantly be engaged in fight somewhere while the country crumbles. I think Israel will wait to see how things turn out with the US election. Mittens has the old gang of Dubya neocons back in play, ready to give the rednecks all the war their TVs can handle if he's elected. There's no imminent threat from Iran of a nuclear attack between now and the end of the year. Doesn't make sense for a rightwing government in Israel to strike now when they could have their super-bestest-friends back in power here in January, ready to back them up.

The other scenario that comes to mind is that since it looks like Rmoney's campaign is close to spiraling the drain, Israel could try to do something now in the hope that it hurts Obama's campaign. Most Americans don't want war with Iran, though.

The Israeli government isn't sitting back and waiting. Bibi is actively stumping for Mitt and the opposition is calling him out on meddling in US elections. Link
