I'm trying to think of how closing the Straits of Hormuz could possibly help Iran in any way in the event of war with Israel, and I come up with nothing. It's something they would do if the United States already declared war on them, and they no longer had anything to lose, it is not something they would do to retaliate against Israel. Frankly I find the whole thing insulting to my intelligence.

mediablitz: blacksharpiemarker: mediablitz: fark you Israel. You don't get to dictate to the world.

They already do.

No. They don't. If they DID, Iran would have been bombed in one of the last 17 YEARS Israel claimed Iran would have "the bomb". Yep, 17 straight years making that claim.

They TRY, and our right wing willingly plays along.

Exactly. Israel attacking Iran is the wishful thinking of a few knuckleheads. Oh sure, some there and here would LOVE to have the US do the dirty deed, but it ain't gonna happen. Moreover, Israel lacks the technical means to pull off any sort of raid that would do more than drop a few thousand-pounders on surface targets in Iran.

But by all means, keep farking that chicken.

Don't tell infowars though. They want you rubes to keep believing (and paying).

Brontes: Science_Guy_3.14159: Okay 2 things,

1) This is news? Since when do we not have a massive amount of navy ships in the persian gulf?

B) Who the hell still uses battleships?

Aren't battleships cruise missile boats now? Isn't how we used ours in Gulf War 1?

They were, I believe Regan had them overhauled in the 80s but after the Gulf War I am 99.9% sure they have all been taken out of active service. I don't know if all of them are floating museums now, some might just be sitting around decommissioned at a navy base.

Science_Guy_3.14159: vygramul: And WTF is a "ballistic missile cruiser"?

My guess is Aegis Missile Cruisers? I remember a few years ago hearing how we had them between Japand and North Korea/China, I think kinda as an anti missile system; kind of putting a shield up around Japan?

Thing is that tools loke this guy like to throw together scrary-sounding military words and somehow manage to get paid for it.

What about other countries without carriers? Still might be an effective tactical strike tool.

what I hope it is- A massive coop strike by 25 nations to hit every islamic nation rioting or attacking embassies over the past 3 days.

what I do not hope it is- Israel pulling nut hairs and making us back them as they invade iran

What it actually is- Boats being boats and floating around as they are want to do.

Not really, they kind of lost their use 70 years ago. I think a lot of countries that can't afford Supercarriers like the US have their own smaller version, the british created the harrier jet to take off and land on a much shorter boat. Also what use is a gun that can fire a shell 20-30 miles going to be against any of todays missile systems?

Bomb them, bomb their cities, bomb the oil fields, bomb their ports, bomb them back into the stone age - and do the same to Israel, too. If the Middle East registers on the 'news worthy' scale in the next hundred years, then we didn't do our job. Fark them, no lie. The whole region dictates too much concern for any civilized country to be distracted by, if they can't learn to live together then Fark them, and if they can't learn diplomacy in the next hundred years then bomb them again. Repeat as necessary, ad infintum. Yeah, I'm mad, bro. The world is trying to live together (minus Best Korea, and a few other places). But these farkers in the ME are a nightmare concerning world peace, so kill them and try to be thorough, no lie.

This article covers it nicely

Until now the U.S. and other Western powers have restrained Israel from launching what they believe could be a catastrophic war for very limited gains through imposing what even Washington's flagship Israel-lobbying organization, AIPAC, has called the "strongest set of sanctions to isolate any country during peacetime." And Israelis have long recognized that their threat to take unilateral military action gives them leverage over Western powers to demand ever tighter sanctions and pressure on Iran. When former Mossad chief Meir Dagan last year publicly ridiculed the idea of Israel attacking Iran as strategic folly, Haaretz columnist Ari Shavit excoriated him for letting the cat out of the bag:

The threat of a military attack against Iran ... is crucial for scaring the Iranians and for goading on the Americans and the Europeans. It is also crucial for spurring on the Chinese and the Russians. Israel must not behave like an insane country. Rather, it must create the fear that if it is pushed into a corner it will behave insanely. To ensure that Israel is not forced to bomb Iran, it must maintain the impression that it is about to bomb Iran.

Short version:

In an alternate 2021, a UN carrier group goes missing off Indonesia, and pops up in 1942 just prior to the Battle of Midway, and accidentally wipes out the US Pacific fleet upon arrival. Some scatter also hands Hitler, Yamamoto, and Stalin bits and pieces of "uptime" technology. Mostly deals with culture differences (racism), implications of limited tech transfer, and what happens when (among other things) Stalin gets advance word of the Cold War in 1942, when he can actually do something about it.

/Also, it was written not too long after 9/11, so there are references to the whole "War against Islam" thing getting really, really nasty.
