Do people other than the lunatic fringe over at Fox News still truly think there's a "liberal media"? And if Hollywood is really full of liberals then pay them what they want to make your conservative propaganda movies because you conservatives suck at filmmaking. Christ, if I made "The Last Ounce of Courage" when I was in film school I would have been stuck editing gay porn for Santorum's private stash.

You know, I think the Republicans need to have another convention this year, since that hurricane ruined the first day of their last one. Yessiree, another 4 days of Republicans giving speeches, unfettered and unfiltered, telling us what they really think. The Democrats will be happy to foot the bill, I think, probably even pay to have Clint yell at more furniture. Maybe a divan or sideboard.

VJStinger: Yeah, its was gay dino-sex that killed them off after thriving for millions of years. They just up and one day decided to fark each other out of existence. It makes so much more sense now, I don't know why I never made the connection before! But since they're gay they no longer have any relevance to me so I can completely ignore them entirely!

Jeez, don't you know anything? Before the Garden of Eden, dinosaurs were BISEXUAL - they would have sex with anything so actual reproduction was hit or miss but there was enough male-female action that their species was perpetuated. Some think that since the dinosaur was an ally of the snake, God decided to punish them by making them exclusively HOMOSEXUAL. In fact in the Garden of Eden, "snake" was the word for "dinosaur" and today's snakes are called so for their resemblance to dinosaurs. This is shown by the fact that God didn't punish today's snakes by making them queer, only yesterday's dinosaurs. God was pissed off by these animals with the hubris to think they were giving knowledge while they themselves didn't know enough not to engage in rampant non-reproductive promiscuity.

Hobodeluxe: wear that anti-intellectualism like a badge of honor Rick

Ignorant and Proud!

Yes, an anti-intellectual Republican. What happened to us? What did anti-intellectuals do that was so offensive to the Democrat party? I'll tell you what we did. Anti-intellectuals got Creationism taught in schools. Anti-intellectuals got people to think Obama's Muslim. Anti-intellectuals created Birtherism and lifted millions of ignorant bloggers out of poverty. Anti-intellectuals put blah people at the back of the bus. Anti-intellectuals banned interracial marriage, gay marriage, anti-intellectuals created the Personhood Amendment. What did Liberals do? They opposed every one of those things. Every one. So when you try to hurl the word 'anti-intellectual' at my feet, as if it were dirty, something to run away from, something that I should be ashamed of, it won't work, Hobo, because I will pick up that label and wear it as a badge of honor.

There are no Republicans on Fark. There are only the independent-minded, go-it-alone, decide the issues based on their own merits, regardless of what the parties espouse. Fark independents, who never voted for Bush the lesser, but supported 90% of his actions. Fark independents, the last non-party affiliated men! Who, somehow, all seem to post the exact same-right-wing spin recently heard on Rush, Hammity, and O'Reilly. The Fark independent, whose opinion on any subject can be accurately predicted 97% of the time by simply looking at the latest Foxnews spin! Yes, sir, no Republicans on Fox, not a one! But good luck in your search.

As much as I want to agree with him on just the sheer essence of the comment, given just how denigrating it is for the GOP as a whole, the reality is there are plenty of elite and smart people on their side.

So I wonder why would he say something like that?

What I find strange about the comments is that surely this isn't what he feels, as it doesn't really represent your supporters as the commoners or less educated, and it isn't a stretch to accept that their policies benefit the more affluent by a large degree. But given the difficulties that Romney has with connecting with the less affluent, this seems to represent a fairly intelligent and perverse attempt to solidify the support of the conservative agenda with the people who are the less wealthy and less educated by painting the opposition elite or college "educated" types.

Given as well that the media coverage of Romney as of late given his less than stellar comments on Libya backfired, this notion seems to reinforce the whole "If you are criticizing us it must be because you are biased" and the "liberal media" myth must be maintained to override any bad press, even if deserved.

So well played Rick Santorum, googling your name no longer returns the frothy mix it once did, but you still serve if up hot and fresh in a way that only some will truly ever understand.

Weaver95: secular atheists can be just as authoritarian, believing that only strict social controls keep everyone in line.

In theory. Possibly more so in the former Soviet block or in China. And certainly can, even even in the West. However, empirically Western Atheists tend to be disproportionately un-authoritarian, at least measured by RWA. (SDO appears to be independent of religiosity.)

Mugato: Right, but even these authoritarians don't have morals of their own are still just saying, "believe these laws in order to behave". Religious fanatics believe in addition to that, "if you don't also believe in this god's beliefs, then you won't be able to behave". Difference.

Less than you'd think. Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist Soviet Communism is one strain of (largely discredited) atheist philosophy, whose supporters disproportionately leaned high-RWA. I suspect a lot of the stereotypes about "the decadent capitalists" involved a similar parallel.

Of course, there's the issue that Soviet Communism has some similarities to a religion; but contrariwise, you have the idea of the "Civil Religion" of the United States (cf. Robert Bellah), which is at most "ceremonially deist" (cf. Brennan dissent in Lynch v. Donnelly), with the deism a non-essential element to Bellah's argument.

Weaver95: personally, I think authoritarians are all mentally ill.

However, at the cultural level, having some fraction high-RWA may be a net evolutionarily adaptive trait.

StoneColdAtheist: Setting aside the redundant duplication, please list one...just one...secular American politician who advocates strict social controls for everyone.

Note, not all politicians are American.
