They show the girl from "John Carter", and it reminds me that I like to plug that movie whenever possible. John Carter is actually better than you'd expect. It's not the best sci-fi film ever but it's worth a watch. I still can't understand why it did so poorly in the theaters.

That's actually probably part of it, the marketing. I'm not saying it was a great film but it also wasn't marketed very well. "John Carter" sounds like a movie about George Clooney as a plucky small town lawyer. If they named it "John Carter, Badass Motherfarker from Mars" and put a few more dollars into the advertising, it would have made a few more bucks.

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in Alien and Aliens. A person who got into some shiat, got over it, and kicked some ass.

Male, female, that's a helluva thing to do, and to do so in a halfway believable fashion on screen.

Too many that try to pull it off either over-act, or end up playing it too cool.

I am in agreement. I was thoroughly impressed. The source material is hard to read because of it age and pulp style, but the movie makes it an enjoyable story. The nonverbal acting elevates it above pure mindless exposition, though there is some of that too. It made perfect since when I heard the director of WALL-E was involved.
