Even if Glenn Beck actually did something heroic, like drag sleeping bodies from a burning building, it would not be enough to balance out the unfiltered assbaggery he inflicted on millions of zombie FOX viewers to get the "hero" tag. Maybe a genuine act of heroism would warrant a "somewhat less douchey, for this weekend only" tag, but not "hero."

/btw, I see "spiffy" tag, not "hero"

"...but we have a very clear choice. We are going to fundamentally disconnect from our founders and what they believed in, or we're going to limp along and hopefully reconnect with some of those."

I had a feeling many conservatives dislike their candidate, but that is some rather bleak imagery.

Also, Beck does a spot-on Bill Clinton. I wonder how often he practices that at home in his bathroom mirror.

2012-09-15 04:24:46 PM
Yeah, but did Romney help that poor girl back in 1990? I mean, he's never denied KNOWING about it when it happened, so it's reasonable to think that if he had WANTED to do something to save her, he would have. I think this is something that the media should investigate. I'm just asking questions here.

vartian: "...but we have a very clear choice. We are going to fundamentally disconnect from our founders and what they believed in, or we're going to limp along and hopefully reconnect with some of those."

It's the incredible power of the blah guy. One term with a minority in the Oval Office and the United States -- the country most blessed by God of all countries, with the most manifest destiny of all countries, and the most economic, political, and military power in the world -- simply falls to pieces. It's really quite indicative of the abject terror that conservatives have of social equality in this country. The merest discussion that we might be able to do things a bit more fairly in this country and OH NOES ALL IS LOST.

I swear, when Obama gets re-elected, he's gonna have to have a bulletproof bubble just to walk in the Rose Garden. The right is coming totally unglued.

I'm still waiting for a reasonably accurate definition of what "our Founders believed in." According to Beck's radio show, which I had to listen to in my dad's truck one day, Thomas Jefferson believed the USA was founded to be a Christian nation. Pardon me for not having a link, but he clearly stated, "Jefferson would be appalled at the attempts of the liberal elite to remove God from our school system." There was much more derp, but that's what I remember.

I am more than a little offended by people who co-opt the Fathers and dishonestly use them as a persuasive device in absence of any real argument. You know what? I'm an American, too. I share the same Founding Fathers. And fark you very much for trying to twist their intentions in order to suit your agenda. Nothing is more patently offensive.

Fark you and the horse, etc.

Nah. As mentioned in a different thread, this is just your typical hyper-partisan pants-sh*tting. It happened to Clinton as well, but we're just hearing more about it now due to forums and agenda websites/cable channels. Besides, the Secret Service has access to all manner of technology not available the last time they lost a president.

People who have been helped by Romney testimonials:

- "Thanks for having the courage to support the war by protesting against spiteful commies." - Lyndon B.
- "I had a job before Bain bought the company I worked for. Now I can kick back, crack open a can of Whiskas, and enjoy a decent meal for once." - Ttim Y.
- "Thanks for trapping me in a cage instead of merely killing me. I agree I am an animal and must depend upon your mercy." - Bapp R.
- "There's a saying that goes, 'a friend helps you move; a good friend helps you move a body'. 22 years and the police still haven't found me." G.B.

No one in this thread is calling Beck out for glossing over the thousands Romney authorized putting out of work while he was running/asleep at the wheel/etc. at Bain Capital? Is this one of those things that we all know about and doesn't need to be said now?

If so rock on.

FTA: "During his 1994 run for Senate in Massachusetts, Romney visited Smith's shelter to tour the property and get a better understanding of their financial situation........Romney asked Smith what his biggest problem was. Smith told Romney it was a lack of milk, to which Romney responded, "Well maybe you should teach them [the veterans] how to milk cows."

Let them drink milk and eat cake!

Oh, he can interview me!

True story. When I divorced and moved here from Seattle in 2003 (my parents are out here), the first couple of things I had to do were find a job and get transitional assistance (food stamps, section 8 housing etc). I was living with my parents, but with two toddlers that wasn't going to last long. when I called the Section 8 office to start the process, the woman told me not to bother. When I asked why, she said it was because not only was the wait list 4 years long at the time, but the Governor (Romney) had just cut funding for section 8 construction so there weren't going to be expansions for a long, long time. I ended up living with my parents before moving into an apartment I could barely afford, so I guess I got lucky that I could manage it anyway, but if you know my parents at all, that's about 3 months too long.

/this healthcare thing is fantastic
//you guys should all try this!

insertsnarkyusername: Based from what I've seen of Mormons they only help you if you agree with them.

My ex-husband wasn't Mormon but his entire family is (except his mom eventually left the church and she's okay), and they are and entire church potluck of crazy. So many stories.

I tried to keep a relationship going with them after the divorce, for the kids. and then I tried to keep it going after he died, but without him to go through (and I'm sure with the loss of him), they all turned the derp to like 11. The last time the kids went to visit, the younger came home in tears because the family had tried to guilt them into visiting more, like it was the kids' responsibility to make the family happy. He was ten years old, no ten-year-old can manage a cross-country relationship like that.

Mitt reminds me of my ex-father-in-law a lot. He seems to really feel like he can just swagger in and claim what he wants, which is the Presidency, and he'll get it because he's one of God's favored disciples and that's what happens.

They pretty much do the same thing with the Founders as they do with Jesus and anyone else universally looked upon as being morally upstanding but no longer around to speak for themselves (I'm seeing MLK getting the same treatment recently). They even get into the same kind of "us-vs-them" tribal warfare over it by claiming the people in question solely for their own side and assuming everyone else actively hates these people (thus their baffling questions of "Why do you hate God?" or "Why do you hate America?" if you disagree with them).

Hell, I had a coworker yesterday reveal he was a Tea Partier, and when he found out I was a liberal, the following conversation ensued:

Coworker: "How can you be a liberal, you're wearing an American flag on your hat."
Me: ".... Yeah? What does that have to do with anything?"
Coworker: "Liberals hate America."

It probably goes a long way to explain how they can propose policies that are actively hostile or destructive to certain demographics, because they honestly think that anyone who isn't lockstep with their ideology isn't a "real American" and therefore does not deserve to be represented by them.

You wanna know how I got this smirk? My father was a businessman..... and a fiend. And one night, he goes off crazier than usual after vulturizing a struggling company. Mommy gets the Book of Mormon to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the book to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me and says, "Why so serious-SUH!?" Comes at me with the Book of Mormon. "WHY SO SERIOUS-SUH!!!?" He sticks the book in my mouth... "Let's put a smirk on that face." And...

So Thomas Jefferson was a liberal who was apologizing to North African terrorist mooslims already in 1797? That explains a lot.
