Even for Sheriff Joe, this is disgusting. I would love to see him go to one of his own prisons for one of these offenses.

2012-09-15 08:23:35 AM
Can you say Civil Rights violation?
Can you say cruel and unusual punishment?
Can you say Federal investigation, on top of the lawsuit?
Can you say Arpaio losing his police certification and being kicked out of office in disgrace?

In before the Fark "He should have thought of that before he broke the law" Conservative brigade.

Y'know, Joe, Colonel Podovsky really *wasn't* the good guy.

This is about the only drawback of Atheism, that I can't believe a douchebag like this is going to burn in hell.

Would be nice if he got 10 years in a Mexican prison.

2012-09-15 08:44:47 AM
I hope he gets punished for it. I highly doubt it, though.

2012-09-15 08:47:45 AM
As a former prison nurse, I'm not getting a kick outta this situation...

This is CO's fault unless medical was notified. If they were, I have nothing but contempt for them... nothing.

RexTalionis: I hope he gets punished for it. I highly doubt it, though.

No, he probably won't. Maricopa County will probably get sued back to the stone age, but Joe will be fine.

2012-09-15 08:54:53 AM
This happened in 2005.

Why does it take so freaking long to get anything done in the courts?

2012-09-15 08:55:33 AM
The main thing is he gets away with it

2012-09-15 08:56:14 AM
heads will roll but it won't touch Joe.

2012-09-15 08:58:53 AM
He looks like the abusive sheriff in one of those chain gang movies.

"We got a runner."

Someone may get hung out for this but it won't be Arpayaso. A long excruciating death for a minor drug offense? His depends shiatting constituents love that stuff.

The Sheriff's office only did this because they're horrible, evil scum.

You do realize he's in Maricopa, right? This has potential to shake things up a bit, but Sheriff Joe has a LOT of friends in Maricopa, and he knows where all the bodies are buried, figuratively and not so figuratively. There's a reason he's been around so long, and it has to do with him shielding a lot of folks from a lot of scrutiny. I despise the man, as a former Maricopa resident, but let's face it, he's going to be protected until he dies, and even then, his family is going to draw checks from folks who know that they'll keep their yaps shut...

i hope sheriff joe dies of ass cancer in prison.

Remember the threat from the Attorney General to sue Arpaio if he didn't comply with civil rights statutes? Remember they were going to assign monitors? Well they just dropped that and Joe didnt have to change one bit. Insane what that guy blatantly gets away with.

Sheriff Joe is the new Vic Mackey albeit far less cool.

Conspiracy to commit murder.

Back during my drug addict days, I used to see this all the time going through processing (average time 48 hours from arrest to your bunk). Guys would be screaming for their medicine, CO's were all "HAR HAR FARKING PANSY LULZ!!!" Then here comes the shaking and everyone in holding screaming for a guard. It would still take them over an hour to actually do anything, even though the medical building was across the street. This happens a lot and there was one story about some guy dying in the tank waiting to be released and his family was at the jailhouse with his medicine begging someone to give it to him and they refused. One of the very few cases I've ever heard actually being a successful lawsuit in Harris County. I'd look for it but I'm on my phone.

When this happens in other countries we label them as tyrannical and violators of basic human rights.

Harper added that officers said Braillard was "kicking drugs" and that she was "getting what she deserved."

what a lovely, nice group of people. I hope the family sues the shiat outta them. there was no reason for that woman to die such a horrible death.

The feds dropped their criminal case against him for corruption and misuse of county credit cards. The Civil Rights probe is still ongoing (see the bottom of that article).

Nothing will come of it.

The family bringing suit will face countersuit and lose both, it will cost them millions.

Ol' Joe will keep rolling like he's been rolling. Untouchable.

Remember kids, this is someone the GOP felt compelled to invite to speak during their convention, albeit outside the arena and in a zoo, but still. So always associate the GOP with bitter old men letting people die, no matter what for. Sits nicely with their stance on Obamacare. So push this narrative on anyone you know who is still undecided (Though, how can you be?) on who to vote for. Maybe they're not completely sold on Obama, but they're definitely not interested in Romney. That's okay. Tell them a vote for Obama means a vote for not letting people arbitrarily die. Who can't get on board with that?

well not only that but Sheriff Joe seems pretty damn corrupt. allegations of bribes, shredded evidence, witnesses threatened, abuse of power...basically, think of every small town 'corrupt cop' story you can think of and Sheriff Joe sounds like he's either done it already or willing to do it in order to make sure he stays in power. he's dug in like a tick, and that's just all there is to it. sometimes evil wins, and this might be one of those times.

that said - nobody lives forever. eventually, Joe will die of old age. And i'm fairly certain that his little empire won't outlast his death.

I had a comment or two about that....but I read it back to myself before hitting 'add comment' and it seemed rather spiteful. So I'll just say that Sheriff Joe and his little kingdom WILL fall. they'll fall to time, if nothing else.

Can you say "pound me in the arse federal prison."

Republicans love this authoritarian too.

The people who vote for "Sheriff Joe" will just figure the woman was a Messican or some other kind of blah person and she OD'd on goofballs or whatever those people take. All they care about is that Sheriff Joe hates Fartbongo more than they do.

Yes, and I can also say murder. Which this is. If she was a known diabetic (even if she told them; they are responsible for checking her blood sugar) and they withheld treatment which led to her death, that's murder.

2012-09-15 12:01:39 PM
Not that I would know, but don't go to jail in Texas. Just sayin'

2012-09-15 12:01:56 PM
Readers, please add Maricopa County, Arizona to your mental list of places not to get arrested in.

Um yeah, that's been on the list for years now, right behind North Korea and ahead of Zimbabwe.

I bet it was mostly Christians who elected him.

For the most part, I tend to agree with his aggressive prison ... um ... tactics. However, this definitely falls into the realm of cruel and unusual punishment. Assuming it's true, this is some seriously farked up stuff.

Its all a conspiracy cooked up by Al Queda and Fartbongo's gay lovers to disgrace Sheriff Joe because he was going to reveal that Derpbama is a lizard alien and wants to steal all the water on Earth!

/No, I have not been snorting crushed OxyContin again!
//Those gay Dominican hustlers are LYING!!
