Went to high school with Rindy Ross's little brother Alan. That band came out of a local, Portland area horn band the name of which escapes me.

Lawn needs watering

"This is either America in the 80's, or Canada today" is my favorite Crow T. Robot line ever.

Their rakes make little Casio noises.

Honestly, I can't really watch this one. It's... ugh. I just want to go out and hunt down everyone who had anything to do with this movie.

What about Time Chasers? Or Overdrawn at the Memory Bank?

I would have pointed out Manos, the Hands of Fate, but it seems that the 'stars' of that film hunted themselves.

Manos is terrible, but I don't think it's as bad as Time Chasers. Or Battlefield Earth. That could be because I was prepared for Manos before I watched it though.

The squeaky noises when the "rad 80s chick" swivels her hips *kills* me every time. Every time.

PvtHike: What about Time Chasers?

The people who made Time Chasers obviously cared about what they were doing. It's a crappy movie, but it's a crappy movie made with love, and it shows in every inch of the film. Overdrawn, not as much, but that was more constrained by the budget. Manos was simply incompetent.

Hobgoblins is a movie forged with hate and spite. Every inch of that movie hates everyone- the audience, the actors, the characters, humanity itself. I feel soiled by that film.

You're absolutely right on all counts. I love Hobgoblins, but I can feel the hate seeping out of that movie. There's a clear tonal shift when they all arrive at the nightclub that just makes the rest of the film torture to get through.

/the guy knocking over his own table three times though is always good for a laugh.
//yeah, I know it's editing. Incompetent editing.

I remember the first time I introduced my brother to this episode. He suffered through the whole thing. He laughed one time, when the hooligan faces the old man and we hear "I don't like the way you greeted me at Wal-Mart." He said he had a hard time watching it because he "felt bad" for Mike, Servo, and Crow and thought that the moviemakers clearly hated humanity.

Me? I like the episode and laugh through it. But it's a tough episode, right up there with The Castle of Fu-Manchu and all of season one.

OT, but Overdrawn was based on a pretty decent short story by John Varley. It's a shame it was interpreted so badly by the PBS production. If that production weren't so notorious, the story could probably be remade into a good movie.

Who am I kidding. It would be made into crap by Jerry Bruckheimer. Better to let it remain dormant.

I'm really curious to know what the underlying story was. I know Varley stories tend to get butchered, but I've only ever seen the films, not read the stories.
