atomicmask: Who gives a shiat if it was intended to offend muslims. MUSLIMS have the choice to not riot. You keep acting like they are animals..I admit they behave like animals...but they are human despite all actions. THEY HAVE THE CHOICE TO NOT RIOT. THEY CAN GO "oh well we are mad, but big deal, fark you buddy" but instead they go all murder burn and rape. THEY MAKE THE CHOICE.

I'm starting to think that some folks here would apologize to the man who raped their wife because she was crying too loudly.

They probably wanted your money and so were nice to you.

Let's keep pretending that we haven't been meddling in the region - both economically and politically - for decades, creating an utter shiatstorm just waiting to strike back at us, and determine that Islam is the lone cause of said shiatstorm rather than being nothing more than a convenient rallying cry. It would be most helpful if we forgot what bin Laden, et al. mention(ed) about the decades-long devastation we cause(d) in the M.E.; that way we can throw cet. par. to the wind and focus on Mooslims as the lone variable, making our analysis so easy that even a Teabagger can do it.

So farking what? By that logic, the jury shouldn't have been allowed to declare Rodney King's attackers "not guilty" since they should have known it was gonna mean a bunch of Koreans were going get lynched by the blacks.

Well I got to get to bed and this thread pretty much just shiat the bed.

The guy who was defending the uprising the most just talked about how he "met them on their own turf", which means he had a student pass to India (close to the Middle East so he knows what he's talking about).

Then, after hours of defending their right to riot, he states when Islam comes knocking on your door "it ain't gonna be pretty,"

There's only so much Internet Tough Guy I can take in one night and now I'm going to go weep myself to sleep.

Bell-fan: gilgigamesh: For a tenured professor, that was barely coherent, let alone a solid argument advocating the filmmaker's guilt for some crime or another.

Now here's my response: The author was an idiot, and she needs to keep her damn piehole shut. Yes, the film was probably designed to be deliberately provocative to Muslims. So what? If we start tailoring first amendment protections to the sensibilities of people with the impulse control of children, who react to a little harmless prodding with riots and murder, just go ahead and chuck the farking constitution out the window.

Because the minute you teach people like that breaking shiat will get them their way when their widdle feewings have been hurt, guess what will happen? The same thing that happens when you reinforce bad behavior in children.

THIS THIS THIS!
A thousand times THIS.

Let me just point something out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piss_Christ

That right there was seen by a LOT of Christians as horribly sacrilegious and disrespectful. But did you see those offended riot, burn down buildings, and murder people? No... why? because the people involved didn't have the impulse control of terminally ADD afflicted Chimps riding on an overdose of caffeine pills.

The author was indeed a freaking idiot. You protect speech... all speech, even the shiat that makes people angry. Why? Because otherwise you give in to the bullies, to the small minded xenophobes, to the dictators and evil people. Instead we should be rounding up the protestors to find out what priests, imams, terrorists or whatever (whoever) are inciting them and start charging them with inciting others to riot and kill.

Someone is fomenting unrest. I think this is an inside job. What better way to get people angry than for the islamic muckety-mucks to make a movie (or trailer) that is supposedly offensive to followers of Islam, and blame it on the non-islamic west? It all stinks to me.

Shot to hell in about 1 minute.

The right to free speech is nigh limitless. Apparently, so is the ability to disavow the consequences of exercising that right.

This entire conversation is daffy to begin with because it's becoming more and more apparent that the entire "movie" thing was a canard, at least with regards to the Libyan incident, but if you insist:

Don't you pretend for one goddamn minute that the stupid movie wasn't an irresponsible, ill-considered piece of crap. The goals were to rile up the base and piss off the "enemy." When the underpinnings of your entire argument about that enemy is that they are irrational savages incapable of reasonable discourse, you cannot sit there when violence results and claim innocence. If you have the barest shreds of intellectual honesty you CANNOT make that argument. You are an irresponsible provacatuer and blood is on your hands. You have "made your point," as it were. And when you spin this incident involving maybe a couple hundred people into an indictment of a billion, you are as deluded as the filmmaker and complicit in their bullshiat.

But you keep farking that chicken, buddy.

I guess the difference between Myself and others like me, and you...is that I expect said stupid savages (muslims) to stop behaving like such and actually be a religion of peace, while you just expect them to be irrational savages forever and do nothing about it.

Bottom line, they are humans, they are responsible for rioting. They have a choice, it is the same choice all of us have when something that makes us angry happens...1) behave like a violent nutjob 2) call the person a farker and move on.

They choose option 1. No one forces them to. No one forbids them from walking away besides themselves. This is not the responsibility of the western world to give them a kindergardener level of education on "what to do when someone makes you angry" they are farking adults, its time they act like adults.

No, the bastards who did it are absolutely the primary responsible party. Pastor Farkwit didn't kill anyone himself. When I was a bouncer and broke up bar fights, obviously I threw out the jackass who threw the first punch. But I sure as hell also tossed out the loudmouth farkwit who started the fight--and more often than not it was someone on the other side--because in the name of keeping the peace and not ruining shiat for everyone else, that dude had to go. Since we can't do that in the theater of political discussion, we have to just trust people to know when it isn't worth it or right to start shiat. This guy did not, and it's infuriating to me that in some quarters of American society, that guy's a goddamn hero, and the actual people who died are, as a matter of practical reality, being treated little better than convenient hagiographic props.

And beyond that, you're skipping right over my second point: the actions of an infinitesimal percentage of the population are being used to demonize the whole. And I am perfectly aware that unjust did a little bit of that above, but apparently that is what we are now reduced to in this country.

I am not some crazy "Muslim apologist." I am not saying that the murders simply couldn't help themselves. They have free will. They are monsters here. And I don't even think that the stupid farking movie had anything to do with it! I just find it galling that if we are going to play out the discussions of this tragedy on that half-cocked tangent, looking at it with intellectually honest shades of gray is so terrible.

Sorry, man. Responsibility, however it is divided, goes both ways.

Along in my tenure editing a military publication in Washington, I realized we were in a religious war. It goes on to this moment. They kill us, we kill them. There are no good guys here, not even us. As Obama has his drones hunting in Libya tonight, Islam is like the honey badger and just doesn't care. For 1,300 years, the honey badger hasn't cared and has kept growing and infesting minds so that now 1/4 of the worlds population is infected with the madness. The Islamists were the first crusaders, much as that truth must grind your innocent American minds.

The sooner you understand that we're in a religious war and that religious wars never end, the easier it will be for everyone.
Good night and happy trails!

FYI we decimated that whole continent pretty thoroughly, and literally. Europe isn't much of a problem because we burned most of it down and killed a generation of its people, across the board. The Middle East has never seen war on that scale before--nobody has, not even the Vietnamese, so let's all take a minute and thank our lucky stars for the USAForces waging peace for so many decades.

Slave ownership was still legal in America 150 years ago. Slave owners used to wave their bibles in the air to defend the practice of owning another human being. You call them savages, two lifetimes ago we were no different.

I won't defend these Muslims, if anything it's another case that proves the danger of organized religion. Muslims have followed their holy book to the letter while Christianity evolved over time, rejecting certain teachings/commandments of the bible. Christians have assigned less power to their holy book and we're all better off for it.

So you deny a man his right to critique a religion because its followers are violent? Also the whole thing, a bar is not a constitutional right, freedom of speech is. You can toss as many violent people out of a bar as you like, it does not apply.

We have a right to call a spade a spade. If you silence one man because they did not like what he said, you silence all men who would ever be guilty of the same thing. You effectively make their religion taboo and above all others, which we as americans cannot do. They just have to get the fark over it, and stop killing people. Not trying to be cheeky, but do we know (in a general sense) who are the people protesting? Are these folks the poor unemployed/under-employed being exploited by certain religious fanatics, or are there educated individuals from more established homes participating as well?

IMO we have a problem either way, but if there is a significant number of "educated" protesters then our problem is much larger as the ability to hold a meaningful dialog is greatly diminished. If the majority of protesters are the more "uneducated" we still have a problem as these are potential recruits for a new jihad against America and its friends.

IMO, this is not about a movie (I would not cry if the arsehole who made said movie disappeared), yet the movie is an excuse to act out on long held animosity towards the United States and their current economic standing..

I'll wager that the majority of rioting Muslims haven't even seen the video. It's just an excuse to riot against the U.S.

TheDumbBlonde: HotIgneous Intruder: willfullyobscure: HotIgneous Intruder: NOBODY can tell me -- or any other reasonable person -- that this WAS NOT intended to piss off as many Muslims as possible and possibly incite murderous thoughts and/or actions.
The video is here.

So farking what? By that logic, the jury shouldn't have been allowed to declare Rodney King's attackers "not guilty" since they should have known it was gonna mean a bunch of Koreans were going get lynched by the blacks.

You're either for freedom of speech, or you're a bad person. or an ignorant peasant far away from here that should be carefully and respectfully treated with batons and tear gas until a minimum cultural understanding has been met.

What's most amazing in that you apologists for "free speech" simply don't get that "free speech" will be used to dismantle your rights, and not just to free speech. It's a demographic trend, a generational boiled frog thing, an increasing ignorance thing, a poor education thing that retards any subtlety of thought or logical conclusions. But it's ok if you don't really get it. It's hard to see around historical corners.
This is why the Justice Department is investigating this dude and his little video.
They're going to shut his ass down, like they should.

It's like your left brain and right brain are fighting to get a thought in edge wise.

That's what happens when you're not a knee-jerk bipolar thinker. The real world isn't just black and white choices. This is the kind of thing that hosed the shiat out of americans about the 9/11 attacks: "What? They used our freedoms as tools to kill us?!" And the country went absolutely apeshiat bonkers, invaded the world, opened the Global War on Poor Brown People who Hate Us, and the rest is history.

Aarontology: King Something: If you think this film should be protected speech (especially since it was made for the express purpose of getting Muslims riled up), you should try yelling "fire" in a crowded theater, saying "bomb" at an airport, calling "mayday" three times in succession over a radio, or calling 911 a dozen times in an hour.

Those aren't really analogous.

You've got shiat for brains. It's entirely analogous. Republicans (generally) love to run around screaming "b-b-b-ut free speech!), when there are already limits to your speech, and for good reason.

This guy should be tried for murder, that's what he should be tried for. You should be tried for being stupid.

This is not the responsibility of the western world to give them a kin ...

Nope, I dont. Not any more dickish then when southpark makes fun of jesus, or when George Carlin did it, or when people say Tom cruse is a gay lunatic in a crazy cult...It is no more or less dickish then any of that.

What will you do when they come knocking on your door.

I won't be here. I'll be with people who understand the threat and have not allowed them to get close enough to knock on my door, thanks very much. No action will be required. Except to shake my head at the moronic Merikuns.

So your a skin head militant or a Chicago teacher?

Good to know and I'll Farky you as such

I'm actually a socially liberal paleoconsrvative who has actually read history, grew up in Europe, and travelled in the Middle East. Don't get me started on the Serbs, either.

So who decides what dickish behavior is?

With each changing administration, depending on which party is in office, the definition of being a dick changes.

Right now, if I were president, your giving me permission to arrest Bill Mahr for being a dick.

But, after my eight years in office (I would be re-elected), and after the eight years of my VP (we did a really good job and she rode my coattails), a Democrat takes office and puts Ted Nugent in jail for being a dick.

Sounds a lot like China if you ask me.

It was an analogy, guy who took his name from an imaginary comic book badass. Calm down.

It's pretty clear that you regard Islam as a disease, so we're not gonna get anywhere with this conversation. Don't hate you, but don't see the point in the two of us banging our heads against the wall, either. Take care.

Try telling a psychiatrist that you have murderous thoughts because of a movie.

I'm an adult and comic books were never a part of my cultural underpinning, so there's that.
I don't think Islam is a disease. I think religion, all of it, is mental illness.
The jihadis are just especially sick farks.

This incident has me so filled with anger and confusion that I don't know where to go or what to do. There are so many bad guys on so many sides and no one that can be called a good guy, just poor SOBs who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. When I try to make sense of the situation all I can conclude is that bad things can happen to good people and it makes me feel small and weak. I don't like this feeling. Is it so hard not to fark with other people?
