Coptic Christians In U.S. Fear 'Terrible' Reaction In Egypt To Muhammad Film

Going by that I'd say they have a lot to worry about.

It's a Christian sect. You're fine. The sort of people to retaliate here to this are Christians. Almost all domestic religious terrorism is against non-Christian religions.

They're worried about Coptic Christians in Egypt. Pay no attention to the headline.

I guess you're overlooking the rash of church burnings we had a few years ago. Overlooking, hell, you probably loved it.

That makes more sense and is a much more serious problem. This could be bad.

Not subby, but Coptic Christians in the US actually do have some valid concerns. It was either this past Christmas season or the one before, but a couple of Coptic churches (one in or near Boston, if I remember correctly) had threats issued against it.

Of course, it's much worse for them in Egypt, hands down.

Ah. Yeah, that's actually worth worrying about.

I'm sure that in the event they're charged with a crime, they'll just copt a plea.

subby,

sorry about the misleading headline. Wasn't my intention. Just misread it when I went to NPR earlier. Take out the "US" part, admins, and the headline should still work

To be fair, most of those look racial in nature.

I honestly don't remember those, did a lot of people die or was it just arson? Oh well, I guess that justifies domestic terrorism, bigotry, and racism.

None of it is justified. I'm just curious about his selective memory.

Well the protests in the Middle East are not exactly laser focused on the real guilty party. Mostly because he lives in LA. So they attack the German and UK embassies.
These protesters are not the sharpest bowling ball in the alley.

Copts in Egypt must be terrified right now. I think it quite likely that there will be murders of Coptic Christians over this.

If you put people in a closed room they will inevitably invent ways to form groups, these groups will have differences, and these differences will eventually lead to violence. This is why we invented religion and politics.

I'd rather not live in a society where we are slaves to religious sensibilities. We've had this before, and those were dark times. If I had to choose, I'd side with the filmmaker.

Because isolated events that happened 40 years ago are relevant. As for the Muslim apologists, the Crusades still matter.

However, these folks look enough like Muslins that they will probably get rather Sikh of all the harassment.

The main Christian sects in Lebanon are Maronites, Greek Orthodox, and Armenian Apostlic.

My new theory is that religion actually removes the outer layer of the dermis upon prolonged contact.

It's the only way to explain the tissue-thin skins of fundies.

Moose limb, moose limb, moose limb.

I don't see why they should be afraid of the guy who made the film, who is nothing more than a common criminal on probation and likely just a disposable patsy for whatever state-sponsored disinformation unit set this whole thing up, such as the Mossad.

There are people who do this destabilization thing for a living. This is their wet dream.
Ask yourself, who would want Obama to lose the election.

'Cause people have the right to express whatever farked up opinion they want to. No amount of butthurt from some offended group should trump that person's right to express themselves. Hence my "Mohammed farked goats" comment.
