Smart move by Nintendo though. They need to show dedication to serious games early and often if they want to win back hardcore gamers. This alone won't be enough, but ZombiU also looks promising. A few top notch exclusives can go a long way....

I think the Wii-U looks fantastic and Bayonetta 2 is just gravy for me.

Some decent ports, too. Before, developers had to shoehorn ridiculous motion controls into games that didn't require them (that's not to say that motion controls don't work; just that they don't work for every game). Now that the tablet has an equal number of inputs as conventional controllers, and the Wii-U has very decent hardware specifications, if a port sucks, it's because developers are just lazy shiatheads, not because the hardware wasn't good enough.

I had no interest in getting a Wii U.

Then they announced Bayonetta 2, and I have changed my mind.

Yes, I like Bayonetta that much and will be buying a Wii U for it.

i saw a preview video for "zombieU" yesterday, showing off the wii u's unique options for interaction... it did not look good. the wii u controller was so gimmicky it made the original wii seem like a sane and normal choice.

True, but the series are basically stand alone titles. Peopel understood why the N64 couldn't cut it, compared tot he CD using playstation.

I think fans are mad here because to play the direct sequel to a game they loved, they have to shell out $350 for a new console, from a maker they may otherwise not care much for.

If it had been multiplatform, or even a new ip, I don't think the fans would have had this reaction. It's a lot like the one the ps2 owners gave Oddworld when that game jumped ship to the Xbox, leaving them out in the cold.

Note I have nothing invested here, as I don't own bayonetta 1, and couldn't care less where the second one lands. I've no plans to buy a wii U ether, least not until I see what MS and Sony have in store for next gen.

It was Devil May Cry with even more sex appeal and T&A. It was fun for what it was, and can easily be made into a franchise. Hell, i'd say it looked and played better then DMC's recent games.

Most of us won't buy every console out there. A great number of us will never own a Wii U.
It won't matter if this is the best game ever made, a large portion of the gaming market will never play it. So I guess reality sucks.

Fair enough. Don't buy it. Just don't farking whine about it. If Nintendo didn't step in, nobody would ever play it anyway, because it wouldn't exist.

The reality is that Platinum Games, who I am a fan of, don't shift many copies of their games. SEGA would not have published a sequel, so instead of nobody getting to play it, Nintendo stepped in and are publishing the game.

So a sequel will exist, Platinum Games gets more cash, and Nintendo has a game they can point to as marketing towards the Core demographic. So no, reality doesn't suck.

2nd tier because it simply is what it is - an also-ran beat em up with little to distinguish itself from other entries in the genre. If you have played any kinetic jump around beat em up, you have basically already played Bayonetta and you won't miss anythng by skipping it. It is by its very nature a bargain bin type game that deserves no accolades other than the fact that it was competently made.

I....disagree. Don't care enough about the game to debate it, but I have a have a higher opinion of it.

No matter though, it's not like there's exactly a ton of that genre on Nintendo systems. It will have a better chance of standing out. let's also not pretend that Japanese game development isn't so far behind the west at this point that it is simply sad. I'll be honest - Bayonetta is the kind of game that on the whole shouldn't even exist any longer and certainly not passed off as AAA games. Gaming has moved beyond the "final fight" mentality that so many Japanese developers still cling to. As an adult gamer, I certainly don't have the time or patience to play thru another savant-level difficulty beat 'em up.

i get you, and the game is polished, yes. but that just isn't enough. with games like the Mass Effect series, Skyrim, Borderlands and others either already here or just over the horizon, what point is there to a game that plays like DMC with tits? I'll tell you - NONE. NONE WHATEVER. Just like that God of War with tits clone that launched with the PS3 (Heavenly Sword), it is just another beat em up title designed to sell to 14 year old boys.

We're not going to see eye to eye on this, and that's cool. For me the reason to play Bayonetta despite the existence of other 'AAA' games, is because as a fan of the genre the game is in I appreciated the fantastic design choices made within the game. I enjoyed the charm, the humor, the weirdness of the title along with how well polished it was. To me, DMC3 was the pinnacle of that series, like Ninja Gaiden Black was. I did not care at all for the Ninja Gaiden follow ups, or DMC4. I would not compare God of War to those other games, I enjoy that series as well, but it's not mechanically the type of action game I'm talking about.

So why would you play Bayonetta in spite of those other games? Because it is one of the most mechanically sound 3rd person action games since NG Black and DMC3. It's fun, campy, and well made. God of War has outright nudity and sex in the game, and Ninja Gaiden's female models are far more sexualized. The aesthetic didn't bother me, and I thought they did a good job in keeping it tongue in cheek instead of creepy. Also as someone who like DMC and tits, yay.

I can understand your issues with it, however I do not feel the same way at all. Ninja Blade is a B tier bargain bin game. Bayonetta was more fun and better made than most of the other games this generation within that genre.

Frepnog sounds like a frustrated 14-year-old boy who needs to get over himself. Bayonetta was a solid game because it had memorable music and graphics, fluid and intuitive yet complex gameplay, and didn't waste time with endless jumping/running around 3D-puzzle filler crap that make the rest of the God of War style games so tedious. It felt like Viewtiful Joe but without the shiatty controls and being so OCD about speed-killing. Good job Nintendo.

Also, have you looked at the list of third party games for WiiU?

http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/games/

NINJA GAIDEN 3: Razor's Edge
Bayonetta 2
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Madden NFL 13
Mass Effect 3: Special Edition
Aliens: Colonial Marines
NBA 2K13
Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper
Assassin's Creed III
Darksiders II
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition

And you HAVE to see this Tekken Tag Tournament WiiU Edition to believe it. This is probably the most epic thing since ever.

no, that isn't it, and alot of you missed the point. I never said that Bayonetta was a shiatty game or anything. It is a solid game, well polished and a very good example of the genre. If you like that genre, you will enjoy Bayonetta.

I just don't have the time or inclination to play a game like that anymore. I put my time into better, longer, more interesting fare. I am just no longer into the "die every few minutes" beat em up genre any longer. Those games are made for 14 year old boys with lightning fast reflexes, and they can have them.

It is like this - Bayonetta is like Maxim magazine - sexy, flashy, slick, short and pointless. I just prefer novels to T&A magazines.

BTW, I enjoyed Force Unleashed and Twilight Princess. OTOH, I preferred to play Punch Out with the standard controller set up. The crap of standing on the balance board was a neat effect I guess, but why would I make the game harder for no reason?

i have been gaming since my step dad brought home an Atari 2600 back in the 70's. I could play the shiat out of Bayonetta if I was so inclined (played God of War, Heavenly Sword, and more beat em up's than I care to remember). I just don't see the point. I have seen everything that the genre has to offer at this point.

I expect more from my gaming time and from my gaming dollar at this point.

I'm not sure what you're referring to by "it didn't matter at all" but if you mean console sales, I think that FF7-FF9 definitely had an impact on PS1's success vs. N64. Not all of it or even most of it, but it certainly mattered in some respects and Nintendo would've loved to see those games on the 64.

I'm biased because I remember 7-year-old me changing my Christmas list from Nintendo to Sony after I saw those FF7 commercials.

Well, personal opinion and everything.

Anyway, games like Bayonetta and GOW still have their place in gaming. It's the only type of games where you have pure control over your characters body and movement. Also the only one where you can have outrageous jackiechan/matrix/300/dragonball style battles with you actually controlling the action. That's a big thing.

You don't enjoy it? Great. Now don't be disparaging towards it.
