Right now I have an Android for myself. A Galaxy SII. It's a decent phone, takes good pictures and was relatively inexpensive. Compared to an iPhone it is a bit rough around the edges: my biggest gripe is the lack of OS support, I was finally able to upgrade to ICS more than a year after it was initially released, and I seriously doubt I will ever get another upgrade. Some of the changes that Samsung was forced to make because of the patent war made the phone less good in many subtle and intangible ways. I really like how effortlessly it ties into my googleized life, I love mobile chrome and I love swiftkey. It is not as polished as iOS by a long shot, it behaves unpredictably at times, and in many ways it feels like a work in process. Oh yeah, and the bloatware from ATT is just obnoxious.

I'm due for an upgrade in November. I'll probably get the 5 then. I currently have a Galaxy S. No one I know with a 4 or 4S plans to upgrade except for the fankids, though.

run apps you've already purchased for either your previous iphone or ipad. Once someone spends a few hundred dollars in apps they are less likely to jump to another platform. It was pretty brilliant for both apple and android to lock people into their phones in that way.

Doesn't sound like they put the chip in the new connector that would block out 3rd party manufacturers. Can anyone confirm this?

Sad that they skipped NFC ... I personally am hoping NFC payment systems take off soon.

I would totally buy a Nokia Lumia 920 over this thing, but there are so many apps that I deem important that are missing from the Windows phone.

Hee hee. I still have my 5th generation iPod. Apple doesn't really support it anymore, luckily I don't use their firmware so it doesn't matter.

I have to say though, I've got an Android phone and I know quite a few people who have the iPhone 4s. They come to me when they want to see a menu from a restaurant that (for some stupid reason) has done it all in flash.

Of course, now that Android's abandoned flash updates, I'll be about as useful as an iPhone owner in a couple of years.

iPhones are far from perfectly stable. A coworker of mine has had her iPhone wipe twice and was unable to restore from the iTunes backup.

What feature of ICS is that important that you had to have right away? Just to have the latest and greatest? ICS was slow for the S2 but it really isn't that substantial to what you already had.

What's so polished about iOS that Andriod doesn't have? I keep hearing people say that but I use my wife's S2 and my tablets and I have no issue at all with the OS. What doesn't the OS do that is so important that everyone else does it but the Andriod OS?

You're a lawyer studying for the bar? That one alone is a few hundred dollars. If you do a lot of statistical research the apps are also very expensive. Using a table or phone for any professional purpose and the cost of applications gets expensive really quick.

Android tends to have more free apps, cheaper apps when you do pay and far more advertising supported apps.

I know I know, I could easily come of with a list of things that bug me about iPhones. I was actually thinking that if I were to buy a phone today, I'd probably go for the unlocked Nexus right from Google.

Amazon "sold out" of kindle preorders as well. The current shipping date is about a month after they are released

Meh. I ordered one for the wife last night, as her 3gs is getting pretty long in the tooth. If I like it, I'll steal it from her, and she can have my 4.

Got one of the pre-orders and the wife is happy. With the gazelle.com trade-in on her iPhone 4, we're only spending about $60 to upgrade. Worth it for the LTE.

I'm sticking with my Galaxy S3.

As was pointed out during the announcement thread the other day, the people who bought the 3G or the 4 are reaching the end of their contracts and it's time to upgrade. There are also a number of Apple fans who would buy anything the company releases because they want to show how hip and cutting edge they are by their conformity.

Long after Apple is no longer considered cool or cutting edge, they'll be selling a gazillion products. They're really good at marketing and they know how to capitalize on the masses. To put it in marketing terms, to date, their strategy has been to focus on the early adopters and the early majority. Now, they're going to start getting more purchases from the late majority and the laggards, and those are the same sorts of people who wait to buy an Xbox 360 the same year that the next one is set to debut. They're not particularly up on things, and they wait for the price to be right.

Make no mistake about it, though -- Apple demonstrated this week what the course is going to be in a post-Steve Jobs world. The presentation felt like a grotesque parody of the past, and the lack of new ideas revealed that the iPhone has reached a point where it's playing catch-up to the competition rather than leading the way.

Likewise, the amount of time spent talking about the iPod (in a day and age in which dedicated MP3 players are on their way out) reveals that Apple is shifting its focus away from the market it's captured and towards the people who still haven't bought into this newfangled gadget craze.

Apple's scurrilous patent war to monopolize the market is offensive. I hope Samsung comes up with something so awesome Apple suffers quick financial death. Their real objective is to kill Android O.S. Google won't take that lying down but if they collect enough precedent it will be a done deal.

In conclusion Apple sucks Satans wang and anyone who uses IOS is evil.
