This is why while I view her as crazy I think she's a good kind of crazy. She knows how to make her fanbase love her.

I'd be more worried about the Haus of Maus coming down her.

Gaga's a class act. She's also a surprisingly good singer. Her duet with Tony Bennett on that thing he just released is awesome.

She couldn't win a suit anyway, subby. People don't own rights to their images, they can only prevent them from being used for promotion of products/services and similar uses. How do you think paparazzi make their money? Pretty much the only way she could be successfully sued, would be if it was shown that she used an image from a photographer without permission.

Since it's Lady Gaga shouldn't that make it more believable?

I'm forced to agree with you - and I predisposed to hate all young people's music on principle (contractual oldster obligation).

Cost of lawyering up and negative publicity - millions

Cost of hiring person and making them work for you- $50-75k a year for 1 to 3 years, then they have a resume entry that will get them out of your hair.

I'd surprised to see her get paid that much. I'd hire her on as a consultant or something.

It's a good move. The GaGa people have a really, really firm grip on the new reality of the industry.

If you sign a bad recording contract and you become successful, the usual route is to go find another label that will pay you properly. Of course, it would be a good idea if that label isn't named 'Sony Music'. Seriously, I don't think they long history of name artists becoming disgruntled and making for the exit however they can.

Probably off company time as well, unless they were smart enough to cross out that part of the employment agreement. Many employers I've worked have tried to slip a blanket IP rights grab in under your radar, regardless of whether said IP was created on company time, with company equipment, or is even completely unrelated to your assigned duty. I always just cross out and initial the egregious parts, and have never gotten any push-back, but it's still disturbing that they try it in the first place.

It's the Daily Mail. More likely, the story is that Lady Gaga was interviewing for this by having people submit their work and she chose this artist first.

I believe the end result is true, that she chose a young artist to be her first member of her team, but as for the emotional hyperbole...well, I just don't know.

I'm well older than her fan base, but I can't say I dislike her music: she's a decent singer and performer and certainly can write (or have produced) very catchy pop tunes. But what seems to be singular about her is her ability to both connect with and to appreciate her fan base. It seems sincere, or as sincere as one can expect any aspect of show business to be.

Also, it's a nice change to have a rathery ordinary looking person in the designated Pop Queen role, even if she is done up like a scrawny kabuki sexbot/gay teen's fashion fantasy much of the time. She's less like the visibly unpleasant Madonna and more like Cyndi Lauper (I'm dating myself here) in that respect: She seems to have fun with being a pop star.

I saw him on a talk show claiming she was not only a pleasure to sing with, but was whip-smart and possessed an unusual depth to her knowledge of musical history, i.e. Tony Bennett's entire career.

If you know who Tony Bennett is, that's pretty high praise.

Can't really call myself a fan, but she's a lot more talented than I expect from today's pop stars (My lawn. Get off it.).

I was pleasantly surprised to learn this when I took my little cousin to see Puss in Boots. There was a very catchy song during the credits that I enjoyed, and I looked it up on iTunes afterward.

Turned out it was Americano by Lady Gaga. I went through about ten seconds of the "That's not true! That's impossible!" shtick that any straight male pushing thirty should in that scenario, but then decided "Screw it, I like that song" and bought it anyway.

At least I can still safely say that Justin Bieber has never produced anything worth a damn.
